Started the day with therapy.  Jeff really has Pat doing lots of stretching!  From there we were off to Orthopedic Center of Florida for Pat's  EMG nerve test.  They do a number of electrical tests of various parts of her nerves.  Both the good hand/arm and the bad hand/arm.  She doesn't meet with the hand doctor for 2 weeks.  In 45 minutes she was all done.  Results would be available tomorrow, but the hand doctor is fully booked until 2 weeks.

Stopped for a coffee for Pat on way home.  Then light lunch at home.

Tonight we went to Cooper's Hawk with Buddy and Jo Ann.  They leave for North Carolina on Saturday.

Meal was excellent.  Just wish restaurants were quieter these days.

Buddy, Jo Ann, Pat, Mark

Traffic on 75 was very heavy so we took back road north.  Got home around 7-ish.

Another gorgeous day weather-wise.

Pat has the cleaning ladies come each year for a good inside cleaning of FLO.  They arrived about 8:15.  We then headed downtown to Peter's while they went at it in Flo.

I had a haircut this morning while Pat killed some time at Peter's.  Then we headed home to a very clean Flo.

This afternoon I got almost finished with all of my tax paperwork collection. Shouldn't take me much more later this week.

Tonight we went to Lucky 13.  Lydia was the only winner at our table.  For some reason the crowd was down a bit.  Everyone had a good time.

Started the day with therapy.  Jeff put Pat thru some serious stretching exercises.   But they did have time to talk about his work time in Marathon Florida.  I ran errands to Target.  Got back just a bit before she was done.

I worked on tax preparation stuff.  Pat did laundry.  Nice 80 degree day.

We left about 3:45 for the Gatlin show at Parrot Key on Fort Myers Beach.  Met Ken and Cathy there.  They live in the Venice, FL area, and live on their boat in Racine WI in the summer.  We first met them in Racine about 20 years ago.

Andrea and Darryl Gatlin

I forgot to include a picture from yesterday.  At lunch Beth bought 3 desserts for the 3 ladies celebrating a February Birthday.  Of course they shared and it was delicious.

Brady's team won their first round in State Playoffs.  They play again Friday night.

Started the day very early.  Went to the same location that Pat gets therapy for my annual lab work.  Got there when they opened at 7 a.m.  Since I had to fast all night, decided to get it done early so I could eat at my usual time.   Also very little wait that early in the day.  Got home before Pat even realized I was gone.  😀

At 11:15 we picked up Jim and Lydia and were off to Babcock Ranch for Lunch with our Sister-in-law Beth and her friends. Joan and Joe also joined us from Arcadia driving down on their motorcycle. We went to The Lake House.  Had a very good meal and lots of gabbing.

Joe, Joan, Beth, Pat, Mark, Sybil, Jim, Lydia, Anne

Beth, Anne and Sybil have been friends for many years.  Anne lives down here now.

After we said our good byes to them, Joe and Joan showed us their motorcycle.  It is new to them this year.

Around 4:30 we did a long walk around the park and picked up our mail.

At 6 p.m. we went over to Buddy and Jo Ann's for Fudge Pie with chocolate mint ice cream  Joe and Barb also joined us.  Had a good time chatting about everything.

We left this morning to meet friends in Okeechobee for lunch.  Left plenty early to give us time to stop for coffee in LaBelle.  Tried out a new shop, just so-so.  Did not go the shortest route thru LaBelle as they had the Swamp Cabbage festival going on.  That area of town was a zoo.  Went by way of Moore Haven instead.

Met Jim and Shelly a bit before noon.  Had a great meal at Lightsey's in Okeechobee.  The place was packed.   Caught up on each others families, health etc.

Mark, Pat, Jim, Shelly

Jim and Shelly are in Cocoa Beach the month of February.  The live in Northern WI.  They will come to Florida for 6 weeks next year.  Okeechobee was a good 1/2 meeting place for all of us.

We got back home around 4.

Michael was in Iowa City for business tomorrow so he went early to spend time with his son Drew and Liam.  Michael also went to the Iowa Women's game against Illinois, to see Caitlin Clark play.

Liam, Drew, Michael, and Joe (Liam's roommate from MN)

Did a short walk tonight.  Ended the day with zoom. Always good to catch up with everyone.  Doris was not there as she had her grandkids tonight.

Brady had game last night.  His team Patton lost to Hendersonville 27 to 45 for the MF7 Class 1A/2A conference tournament.

A number of the Patton players had an off night.  Brady ended up high scorer with 15 points.  North Carolina has a much different end of season tournament for State finals than we are used to.  4 teams from the MF7 conference will play in State tournament.  Patton has a 5 seed, Hendersonville is 14 seed.  Patton will get two home games if they win first game.  First game is against East Rutherford from their own conference.  Wishing them Good Luck.

Connie and Steve got here around 10:30 to ride with us to Punta Gorda for lunch with our Canadian friends Lois and Ron.   We met at Laishley crab house.   Lots of catching up to do.  Ron and Lois have their Punta Gorda winter home for sale so this may be their last year down here.  They have been coming for 20 years.  Life never stops changing.

Steve, Connie, Ron, Lois, Pat, Mark

Said our goodbyes and all headed on home. Traffic was light!

Pat and I went to 4 p.m. mass downtown.  Then home for light supper and settle in for the night.

Friday - February 23

Since it is lent we decided to do church today, 9 a.m. at St. Vincent dePaul.  Then headed to Bonita Springs to meet Charlotte and Doug.   Met them at Publix (after Lots of Traffic) and headed a quarter mile away to Victoria's Place.  If you think traffic was bad, nothing compared to a small shopped packed with ladies all ready to spend money.

Doug and I went inside to view the chaos, then quickly found comfortable chairs in the shade outside and settled in.

Ladies finally came out each with a piece of cake.   If you buy anything you get a piece of cake.  Not many ladies left without a piece of cake.  (of course with bags full of their purchases).

From there back to Publix to let Charlotte and Doug pick up their car.  Off to Seed to Table.  First time there for Doug.   First order of business was lunch upstairs.  That actually was a good idea because shopping on full stomach saves money.😀

Mark, Pat, Charlotte, Doug

After lunch and shopping we said our goodbyes.  Pat and I headed to Fresh Market in Fort Myers.  Pat shopped and I hung out in the car.

Then on home.  85 miles on the car today, never left city traffic.

When we got home, crazy windy.  Didn't notice that much in the car.

First an update on Brady's game last night.  They (Patton) were down 7 to 30 (Brevard).  However they adjusted and started pressing and changing up the defense and outscored Brevard 59 to 20 for the rest of the game.  Final 66 to 50.   They play again tomorrow night.

Pat had therapy this morning with Jeff.  Lots of traffic getting there but we always allow an extra 15 minutes.  We needed 10 of those minutes.

After therapy we headed downtown to Peter's coffee. Then Pat had a manicure.  Got home for late lunch, then I was off for my annual Medicare wellness check up.

Shorty after I got home, we went for a walk while the temperature was very nice. Ran into Dennis and had a nice long chat.

Euchre tonight.  Very nice crowd,  fun but cards were just so-so.

Time for a medical update.  I keep hoping Pat can take her blog back, but fingers are not cooperating.  Thumb and 2 forefingers are still numb, swollen and sometimes her palm gets hot.  We have the nerve test next week and the hand doctor visit 2 weeks later.

Therapist indicate that range of motion is not where it should be so have suggested 8 more weeks of therapy.  Long slow process.

Activities today:  Headed off to Lake Wales at 8:40 to meet Blue Angel Friends Linda and Richard.  First a stop at the Rose' Bakery and Café in Arcadia.  They have taken over more of the building, thus much larger place than last time we were there.

Got to Crazy Fish in Lake Wales about 11.  Stayed in the car until 11:30 and gabbed until it opened.

Linda, Pat

Richard, Mark

Linda and Richard under a very pretty flowering tree.

Since we still had catching up to do, we headed to the Ranch Taproom and Coffee shop in downtown Lake Wales.  We closed the place down at 3 p.m.  Said our good byes and headed back home.

Pat talked to Joan as we passed nearby them in Arcadia.

Tonight was the Celebration of States in the park.  Various States and Countries were represented.  The ballroom was packed.  Lydia and Lucy had a booth for the Philippines.  Buddy and Jo Ann were helping in the North Carolina booth - passing out moonshine.  Gary and Brenda from next door were helping in the Missouri booth gooey butter cake and special beer.

Late tonight is Brady's conference tournament game.  They play Brevard at Patton.

Happy Birthday Pat.  She had calls/texts/emails from many friends and family.  All the the kids and grandkids checked in.  That made her very happy.  She had a Great Day.

Nail salon had to cancel her manicure as the person was out sick.  The therapy moved her appointment back to 12:45 as her main therapist was out.

This afternoon we did a walk around the full park. Met some new renters from Illinois south of Danville.

We did dinner at Bruno's of Brooklyn downtown with Doug and Charlotte.  Great Italian place.  We all enjoyed the experience.

Today would have been our son-in-law Patrick's 59th birthday.  Happy Birthday Patrick.

I took Pat to McGregor Café for her early birthday lunch with Claire. They celebrated with Lobster Benedict's, Peach Bellini's, and shared warm chocolate chip bread pudding with  bourbon sauce.

Pat, Claire  (too cold to be outside)

After eating they went downtown to browse the shops.

Later Pat gave me a call and I went downtown to pick her up.  This afternoon and  Pat talked to her Aunt Marian who is also 95 to inform her of Aunt Dee's fall and surgery today.  No word yet on how she is doing.

Also had birthday facetime visit with Philip and family tonight.  Maeve and Luke both had to show off the teeth they lost recently.  Tooth fairy has been busy.   Philip is off very early tomorrow to Orlando, then to South America.   Quick trip down and back.

They went snow tubing this weekend near Banner Elk, NC

Saturday morning we headed off at 7:45 to Jupiter, FL.  Stopped in LaBelle at Bridge Street Coffee.  From there took the northern Lake Okeechobee route. Got to Bob and Carol's condo a bit after 11.  Sat and visited for quite awhile.  Then went for a drive but rain interrupted some of our plans, but still got to check out a number of places.  Saw Guanabanas that Joan wanted us to check out.

Back home to get ready to eat at Latitudes.  Tripadvisor #1 traveler ranking.   Food was great, setting was very nice and the Waitress remembered Bob and Carol from their visit last week.

Pat's Bananas Foster dessert complimentary for her birthday this week.

Sunday
Decided to do breakfast then 11:15 church at St. Patrick.   Breakfast was at the Berry Fresh Café.   Everyone enjoyed their meals.  Back home to get ready for Mass.  Church was absolutely packed.  Don't see that much.  The other thing we have never seen:   Assistant priest said mass, so the Pastor was singing in the choir.  Yes he was a very good singer.

Back to their condo to pack up in the rain.  Said our goodbye's until next time.  Drove back to Fort Myers in the rain the whole way. The first part of the trip, the rain was very heavy.  We took the southern Lake Okeechobee route.   Fort Myers ended up with 2 inches of rain.

Just after we got home, Pat received a message that her 95 year old aunt Dee fell and broke her hip.  She will have surgery tomorrow morning.

Zoom tonight with siblings.  Everyone wished Theresa and Mike good luck on their move to Continuous Care Community this Tuesday.

Tom talked about all the connections he makes with people on his travels.  Last week at Dominican Republic he struck up conversation with 2 couples that ended up having homes on Eagle Lake very near Doris.   It is a small world.

Pat played with the Ladies Euchre group from 10 until noon.  She had good cards and won 3of 4 games with her partner, Jo.

We then left to pick up a gift for our friend Beth.  Unfortunately she is back in the hospital for more tests, but we left it with Charlotte.  Beth is to be released tonight.  When we dropped off the gift we got to see Charlotte and Doug's very nice condo.

We wanted to do the food truck tonight, but no seafood choices.  Plan B was: Culvers for their Cod sandwich and walleye dinner.   Not bad for Plan B.

Brady has their final regular season game tonight against Hendersonville.  Should be a good one.  Michael got back from London tonight and will provide us with updates.

Brady's team won 70 - 58 to win the conference championship.  All of our North Carolina kids were at the game watching the action.

We are going out of town tomorrow and won't be back until Sunday afternoon, so no blog update tomorrow.

Started the day with a phone call from Therapy telling us Jeff was not coming in today.  They changed appt. to 10:30 with Marissa.  We altered plans just a bit and ran an errand to North Fort Myers first.  Then a stop for Pat to get coffee at Peter's downtown.  Jim knocked on my window just as I parked waiting for Pat.  He was on his way to Peter's too with Lydia.

On to therapy.  I did a Publix run.

After we were home for a bit, Pat and Jo Ann went to lunch at Cabos Cantina.   I worked on setting up my extra external wifi antenna in case Joan wants to try it out.

Jo Ann and Pat
The ladies did a bit of retail therapy after lunch.

Had some of Pat's leftovers for supper tonight.

We did Euchre tonight.  They had 4 tables.  I was the lucky winner.  😀

On our way to Euchre I got this nice foutain/sunset photo.

Wednesday - Valentine's Day

 Posted by Mark:

Happy Valentine's Day to all.

It is also Ash Wednesday so we went to the 9 a.m. mass at St Vincent dePaul.  The church was packed.

Shortly after we were home, Jim and Lydia picked us up to have lunch with Connie and Steve.  Jim and Lydia have been doing research on Continuous Care Communities and had many questions about Shell Point.   Connie and Steve really like it there.

We had lunch at Coopers Hawk in Fort Myers.   We have always gone to the one in Naples, but we now have one in Fort Myers.  Very close and just as well run.  All enjoyed their meal.

From left: Mark, Pat, Connie, Steve, Lydia, Jim

Tonight we went to Lucky 13.   Finally someone at our table did get "Lucky".  That was Me!!!!  I won 35.50 in quarters.   That is a lot of quarters.

Last night Brady had a ball game that they won easily.  We were unable to see it on YouTube, etc. It was Senior night.  Unfortunately Michael was in Dublin, Ireland on business so he was not able to attend.

Started the day with PT for Pat.  1st time after 12 days off.  Jeff wants to focus on really stretching her arm/shoulder in various directions.

When done, we headed directly to Venice for a noon lunch with boating friends from Racine, WI.  We were all at reefpoint in early 2000s.  Had a good lunch at Cassariano Italian Eatery.  Then we went back to Bob and Carol's home to have dessert and more visiting.

From Left: Ken, Mark, Mark, Pat, Barbara, Carol, Bob, Cathy

After catching up on all the families we headed back home.

We were hoping to watch Brady play tonight but nothing on Youtube.  He is probably not playing much because score at half was 52 - 11.

Took a walk around the park before we left to run errands.  1st stop was Massage Envy for Pat.  Her therapist had recommended a shoulder massage.  They focused on her shoulder, but also did a full body massage.  She loved it.

While she was there I went for gas, car wash, mail letter, and a couple of things at Publix.  I got back 15 minutes before she was done.

From there we headed to Soma and Chico's as she had gotten some birthday coupons.  These stores really know how to entice the women.

Was lunch time and we were out and about so:  skip the leftovers at home and head to China Dragon 😎 which was nearby for some Chinese lunch.  We shared the General Tso chicken and 2 egg rolls.  Plenty of leftovers.

One more stop at Walmart for prescription then we headed on home.

Mardi Gras parade in the park at 3:30.  About 15 decorated golf carts.

One more walk around the park.

Pat left with neighbor Barb for the Ladies wine night at our Ohio friend Brenda's lot. 34 Ladies showed up tonight.  According to Pat a good time was had by all.

Pat wanted to update you on some new things she is able to do this week.  Tie her shoes.  Put left ear ring on and sometime the right ear also. Genuflected at church.  Cutting up more of her food dishes.  Every little thing is a success!

From Left - Jim, Janet, Joan and Lydia

I was balancing the checkbook while she was gone.  It took way too long, a couple of tough download transactions missing.

Later in the afternoon we went back to Jim's to play SkyJo as Joan had left.  Jim won.

We were going to do food truck tonight but it cancelled, so we did pizza from Domino's instead.  Mike got back from his golf game and joined us.  Then we all went to listen to the band "Deb and the Dynamics"  They were good, but LOUD.

From left: Lydia, Jim, Janet, Mike, Pat, Mark

After we got home we were able to watch some of Brady's ballgame.  They had their first conference loss tonight.  Brevard - 70, Patton - 65.

Ladies at the table from Left: Lydia, Pat, Claire, Charlotte, Carol Jo, Penny, Janet

I picked up Pat at 2:30.  We were off to Fort Myers beach for Rog and Martin's 50th wedding anniversary celebration at Doc Ford's.  Started with drinks at 3:30, then dinner.  After dinner we went to their condo for dessert and more celebration.  We got to meet their son, daughter, son-in-law, grandson and granddaughter.

Headed downtown this morning.  Pat to Peter's for coffee and blueberry coffee cake and Mark to barber shop.  My barber asked about Pat then asked "where are you going out to eat today?"  Guess he knows us pretty well.

We stopped by church to drop off a check and RSVP for their March 2 thank you evening.

On home as the day turned out very nice.

Took  our walk this afternoon, but Pat's hip muscle was hurting so we did not walk as far.  Always something to deal with....

Jim, Lydia, Joan, Joe, Janet and Mike stopped by after their Babcock Ranch Eco Tour.  They all had a good time.  We sat outside and caught up on all the happenings.  Then we headed over to the Rum Bucket for dinner.  Good time was had by all.

Tuesday - February 6

Early start today.  We had to be to the ENT office by 8:15 and it was 15 miles away, but in morning rush hour that is 50 -60 minutes.

The office was efficient and got us in right on time.  The PA was very confident that she could fix Pat's ear issues.  Using a small vacuum device, some hydrogen peroxide, and a tool she cleaned out the wax in both ears.  Then "non bad" ear actually had more wax than the impacted wax ear.  There was some discomfort involved when she did the impacted ear, but nothing like the other nurse had done to Pat.   When she was all done, Pat could hear just fine and the buzzing and swooshing sounds were gone!   A very successful trip.

On our way home we went out to breakfast at a new place on Fowler Street - Biggie's Place.  We had never been there but any time we drive past it they are always busy.   Just a good plain breakfast place with multiple large tables.   Looks like a favorite spot for men to meet for breakfast.

Then on home for rest of morning.

Left at 12:30 to head for our 1:20 with Dr. Mehalik.   That session went very well also.  He told Pat her shoulder is progressing just fine.  Her progress will be slower than others because she had a lot of damage to muscles and bones before the surgery.  He is not worried that it would become frozen.  Forward motion with the arm will come first, but side motion may not completely heal for a full year.   Patience, Patience.

He did recommend a visit with their hand specialist.  First she has to have a muscle test with a special technician.  It will be scheduled end of February.  They prefer it to be 12 weeks or more after surgery.  Yesterday was 10 weeks.  Then we see Dr. Mehalik end of April.

On our way home I suggested drinks downtown to celebrate all the good appointments and good status.

We went to Lodge downtown, has a nice bar and Pat remembered their Blackberry Moscow Mule. Gin and tonic for me. We also tried their Burnt Brisket Ends with garlic toast.  Menu said it was a favorite.  It was very good.

Then on home to crash after a Big day.

Rain, Rain, and more Rain.   This is supposed to be the dry season.  But at least we are not in California.

I ran some errands when rain stopped.  Pat worked on the social calendar.  We were hoping to get a call for Physical Therapy as she's on the waitlist.  No Luck.  She had to cancel the tomorrow session in order to see the ENT PA for her ears.  Looking forward to getting some answers and ears cleaned.

Got in one walk around the park.  Sun came out and turned into a beautiful day.

My sister Janet and her husband Michael got to Fort Myers very late last night.  Unfortunately she caught a very bad cold from her grandsons.  They wanted to lay low today and avoid us so dinner plans canceled.

We were going to do take out from Cracker Barrel, but internet went out so no on line menu to use.  At the last minute we made an impromptu decision to just go to Rib City.  Had a very good meal including dessert.  Oink, Oink.   (Dessert was my idea 😀)

When we got home internet was back,  we are so lost without it!

Happy Birthday Liam

We had tornado watch this morning so we canceled our plans for church and breakfast with Joe and Barb down the street.   Pat and I went to earlier mass at 9:00 at St Vincent dePaul.  Pat was able to make the sign of the cross with her right hand today.  Accident was 12 weeks ago today.

Must have rained a bunch during church as we had lots of puddles when we got out.   Most all the rain was done by 11 a.m.

Pat talked to a dear friend Missy from Arizona.   I took 2 walks around the park while they were chatting.  Then Pat and I did another round in the park.

Zoom tonight with 8 siblings.  Topics included travel plans, weather and health.

Laundry today. Pat can now do it herself.  I just carry the baskets out and back.

Walked a couple of times in the park.

Michael and Philip both called to check in.   Michael and Ryan are back from their ski trip to Jackson Hole, WY with 4 other guys.  Good time, and no broken bones.

Another big day. Picked up Bob and Linda and off to Skillet's for breakfast.  Then on to Victoria's Place for ladies shopping.  Bob and I sat in car and watched a constant stream of ladies coming and going.  Very few came out without a package.

Linda under the umbrellas at Victoria's

From there we went to Seed to Table in Naples.  We had all been there before except Bob.  He needed to experience the store.

It is now early afternoon so we headed to Sun Harvest for more shopping and ice cream.  Chocolate and Key Lime twist for everyone.  Bob bought a couple of 1000 piece puzzles.

On back to our place to relax and play two games of Euchre.  Bob and Mark were the winners.

For dinner we went to Boat House.  Always a favorite.

Took Bob and Linda home then back to Flo to watch Brady and Patton High School play East Rutherford.  Patton won 54 to 35.

Annette sent a picture of Luke dissecting a frog today at school.

Started the day with 9 a.m. therapy.  Jeff feels the range of motion for the shoulder is not progressing as desired.  Pat may need up to 8 more weeks of therapy after the end of February.  Pat went ahead and filled the schedule until the end of April.

Then we went for late breakfast at McGregor Café.   Very good breakfast.

To Dick's Sporting Goods to buy the 2.5 lbs wrist weights.  Jeff feels she'll move up from the smaller ones soon.

Noon haircut appointment with Jewel.   Pat always enjoys catching up with her.

Next we met up with Brother Bob and Linda at Wilford & Lee.   Bob and I stayed out in the car and caught up.

Then to Anthony's for more shopping.  When done we went to La Ole at Bell Tower for drinks and nachos.  We also called Pat's other brother Ron for his birthday.  Happy Birthday Ron (84).  Hope I'm as active as he is when I am that age.

Bob, Pat, Mark, Linda
Next stop, early dinner at Prawnbroker.  Good as always.   Then back to the Hyatt for Bob and Linda to check in.   We played one full game of SkyJo.  Linda was the winner by a big margin.

Back home settling in after a very full day.
