Monday - May 20

We exercised and then after breakfast took the dinghy ashore to Cumberland Island and did some hiking to the beach.     It was a pretty path with so many Spanish moss-laden trees surrounding us like a canopy.

Gnarled trees

It was low tide and great walking the very flat, smooth surface along the Atlantic.    We were hoping to see the wild horses but no such luck.

There was no sun today and the air felt really clammy and sticky....storms were in the area, but we only had a few sprinkles.    Left Cumberland Island and stopped for lunch (anchored out) near Jekyll Island.    We traveled a total of 38 miles and arrived on St. Simons Island at 3:30.   We settled in at the Morningside Marina and took off on our bikes for downtown (3 miles with a nice sidewalk path past some lovely homes).   We were here in 2009 by car.    I roamed the streets checking out the shops while Mark had a big ice cream cone.    Back to the boat (3 miles), put the bikes away and then showered, changed clothes and off to The Coastal Kitchen (marina restaurant) - fabulous.   Sat outside and enjoyed some great low country food.....we are in the land of shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes and so much more!    Deelish!

Thought and prayers for the folks in the Midwest - especially the Oklahoma victims from that deadly tornado.
