Saturday....up early and off to the Fort Lauderdale airport. Foggy, damp, dreary skies and 36 degrees greeted us in Chicago Got our rental car (only 547 miles and still has that new car smell) and we were off. Had a late breakfast at the Honey Jam Café (excellent) and then on to Dixon.
Mark's brother Tom and family were visiting Grandma today....we drove to Sterling to see another sister, Joan who recently had ankle replacement (very painful). And then we went to see Grandma....
This past week has been really tough....both Grandma and our sister-in-law, Lydia were diagnosed with cancer. Lydia is having surgery Tuesday in St. Louis; Grandma will have a procedure done (ERCP) on Wednesday for a blocked bile duct. She has decided that she is not going to have any more aggressive treatment (chemo/radiation). She is very weak and keeps saying "I'm so tired of being tired" and "I just wish the Lord would take me". She has no appetite and sleeps a lot.....this is really hard to see as just about 10 days ago she was her usual vibrant, strong self.
Asking God and our family/friends to keep these wonderful ladies in your prayers.
Thank You!
We went to 4:30 Mass at St. Pat's (enjoyed visit with cousin Eileen) and then Mark, his sister Karen and I had a wonderful dinner at Basil Tree We spent the night with Karen.
Sunday...nice sunny day and had breakfast with Karen and Marilyn (sister) at the Red Apple. Spent time with grandma but she slept a big part of the time and then ate a little lunch in her room.
Grandma did not want any big celebration for her 90th - just wanted her kids to come home one-on-one and spend some time, go out for lunch or dinner, etc. Unfortunately she is not up to much visiting or going out.
Mom/Grandma's room at Heritage Square is so nice and she is getting excellent care
She loves the nurses and staff and they love her! It's all about keeping her comfortable.
Arrived back in Bloomington around 5:00
Great to be back with these guys!
White chicken chili for supper - yum!
Hope you all have a great week!
