Saturday - April 17

Cloudy and an early morning rain shower before we left for Waffle House which was just down the road.    This is a favorite of Mark's and good as always, but freezing in there and busy busy!

Back to the KOA, Mark got in Big Red and we were off.   A few stops along the way - another 340 miles and at 3:05, arrived at Fern Lake Campground in Paducah.    Glad to be here.    The first part of the trip was very scenic, but lots of curvy roads thru the mountains.    We had tall rugged cliffs on the right and several rapids which obviously would be popular for what they called "wild" water rafting (on a much warmer day).   Ocoee Lake and forest were beautiful but happy to finally be free of all those curvy roads and back on  I-75.     Had our sandwiches for lunch which I've been making the night before.   And, of course I listened to and sang along with the Oldies from the 60's.    Today was especially neat as they were playing the Top 40 songs from this week in 1966 (year I graduated from Amboy High School).    What fun - there were a few I did not recognize but really laughed when I heard them play "Walkin' my Cat named Dog".....really?    NO memory of that one!

They were playing the #1 song just as we arrived at Fern Lake......The Righteous Brothers - "You're My Soul and Inspiration"!

The dogwood trees were in great abundance today thru Georgia, Tennessee and now Kentucky - just gorgeous!!!

After settling in Big Red with Flo (been so nice not to have to unhook each night - just long pull-throughs at the various campgrounds/parks), we drove the car downtown and had a wonderful dinner at Max's.    Been here before and it's always sooo good.    Mark had the lasagna; the special was Seafood Au Gratin for me.  He had a mosaic chocolate cake and bread pudding with warm whiskey sauce for me.   Everything was top notch in this lovely old building with brick walls and lots of charm.

While we were there, 5 girls came in dressed in their prom finery.    No dates for these gals and I'm not sure what they told their waitress about which high school they went to and what was going on with prom (the schools all seem to be doing a variety of changes this year cause of Covid).    At any rate, the girls sat down in their long dresses and immediately, all 5 were on their cell phones!!!

My great niece, Leia made her First Communion today in the Chicago area.

Our Luke and Blair will have their special day in just a few weeks!

We have 295 miles from here to Kamp Komfort!!!    We knew 27 and 28 degree temps were in the forecast for lows 2 days next week, but now Anne tells us SNOW is coming on Tuesday (possible 1-3")!  ARGHHH .

This does not make us happy and we know Flo won't like snow and cold!!
