Thursday - June 8

We had a unique experience this morning.    Left our anchorage at 8:10 heading 19 miles on the Chester River to Chestertown, MD which we've visited 2x before (once by boat and once by car).    I was already thinking about a nice latte at the Evergrain Bakery and then a yummy lunch at the
Lemon Tree Café....(we remember they have a phenomenal chicken salad sandwich - 150-year old family recipe).

We knew Chestertown was a small marina, but tried calling yesterday and this morning but no answer.    We arrived around 9:30 and no one was around plus several docks were under water?    We tied up Catrina but wouldn't be able to get to shore with all the water???     Apparently with high tide comes flooding and you would have to wait till it goes down + it's almost full moon which causes the tides to rise even further?    This was a first for us, but obviously not where we wanted to be...

So, we left and cruised back on the Chester River to the Chesapeake and then to the Sassafras River
and planning to stay here at the Sassafras Harbor Marina catch up on laundry and get some exercise (after anchoring out 2 nights in a row, we are ready to do some walking).

Most of the boats here (and there are a bunch even though we're out in the boonies), are from Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Sure hoping to see some sunshine and warmer temps tomorrow....
another cloudy, cool day on the water.

Went for a walk and checked out the laundry, café, marina gift shop, ship's store, etc.    We walked to the Granary, an old place on the Sassafras that was quit charming with beautiful views of the river.    We had drinks and happy hour appetizers (crab nachos and fish tacos).

Around 5:00, the sun came out and it was a beautiful evening!

Wednesday - June 7

What a difference a day makes....today was cloudy and cool.   Only in the 60's, but still a fun morning scouting out the shops in St. Michaels while Mark waked to the hardware store.    There are just so many cute clothing, gift and miscellaneous shops here including a wonderful Christmas shop that is celebrating 45 years in St. Michaels.    I found ornaments for 7 of our 8 grandchildren and it's only June so plenty of time to find the perfect one for Liam   😊

As I was strolling past all the lovely homes, large and small, I forgot to mention 2 other charming things that make these homes so special......many of their front porches have
swings AND so many have candles in each window!

Pretty purple clematis
Charming yellow home with red door ad 2 red rocking chairs

We came back to Catrina and left San Domingo Creek at 12:15
(probably the last time we'll visit St. Michaels by boat!)      😰

We cruised 40 miles to the Queenstown Creek anchorage near Queenstown
(been here a few other times).

YEAH.......Fat Albert (Bert) the C-130 plane for the Blue Angels which flies their cargo and personnel to air shows is baaaaaaack.    Bert has been out of commission for almost 1 year due to some major repair work and a brand new paint job.
Welcome back, Bert!    Your fans will be so happy to see you!

Spaghetti, salad and chianti made for a good dinner this cool evening

Davis is spending this week at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL.
Hope it's a fun, informative week.

Tuesday - June 6

Beautiful morning to stroll downtown Cambridge one last time and enjoy some yummy pastries and coffee at The Black Water.

This sign hangs in Black Water....ha!   We sure do like to eat!

Then back to Catrina and off we went to St. Michael's (19 miles) and anchored out in San Domingo Creek.     We've been here before and so peaceful and pretty +++ we are the only boat here tonight.    It's just a short dinghy ride to a nice park and then we walk a few blocks to downtown.

Our friends Don and Ann picked us up at 1:30 and we had a wonderful lunch at The Miles River Yacht Club.    It was so fun to visit with them as it's been over 2 years..    Don and Mark worked together many years ago at State Farm.

Don and Ann

Mark and I came back to Catrina and rested for a few hours and then back downtown.    Walked around some (will check out these fun shops tomorrow) and then stopped at Ava's for pizza and drinks.    This is a favorite place - there are so many favorites in this charming little town.
LOVE St. Michaels.

As we visit these charming little towns on the Eastern Shore, one thing is for sure.....these folks take pride in their lovely old homes with shutters, front porches with rocking chairs and so many fly both the American and Maryland state flags.

The flowers are sooo gorgeous, too...and many people have a front yard full of all kinds of colorful stuff growing.

Pretty pot of flowers on Talbot Street

Check out the lime green picket fence and flowers everywhere!

Beautiful blooms in this side garden of home

Monday - June 5

Rainy Monday in Cambridge and much of the eastern USA.    I took off around 8 for downtown to get in some steps and pick up a skinny vanilla latte at Black Water.    Mark did his weights and then he made pancakes and sausage.

The rain started shortly after breakfast, but a good day to hunker down with Catrina projects, catch up on computer stuff, read, etc.

Connor and his catch this morning at Old Farm Lakes
Our grandsons (IL and NC) are quite the fishermen!

BLT's for lunch as the rain kept falling...

We walked downtown around 5:30 and ate at Jimmie and Snook's and what a TREAT!

We boated on Catrina (sail) for 14 years on Lake Michigan (Racine, WI).    For many Friday nights of those years, we got our stuff settled on Catrina and then went to The Docks for seafood nachos.    They were soooooooooo yummy, but for some reason, much later, were taken off the menu.

Now we're in big-time crab/shrimp country, but seldom see "seafood nachos" on the menu until tonight at Jimmie and Snook's.    They were fabulous!!!!!

We and our tummies are happy tonight!

Sunday - June 4

Warm sunny, breezy day.....rode our bikes to Black Water for breakfast - love this place with neat décor, yummy pastries, several choices for hot breakfast, etc.   Mark had a Belgium waffle and I had the vegetable quiche with fresh fruit.

Then onto St. Mary - Refuge of Sinners for 11:00 Mass.    We rode back to Catrina past some lovely older homes.     I walked in the afternoon and Mark had a few boat jobs he worked on.

We walked downtown and had supper at "Low and Slow" BBQ place - new place only open 6 weeks, but very good.

It's been a nice restful Sunday.    Played euchre and spades tonight with both of us sharing in the winning.   We had planned to go to St. Michael's tomorrow (a favorite) but 90% chance of rain, so...we'll stay in Cambridge another day - no problem at all!
