Tuesday - August 31

Wow...the last day of August!     This year continues to roll by at jet speed!   STOP.....ready for life to slow down!

Another pretty day at Superior Marine with plenty of sunshine and upper 70's.    We were back in the swing of our job list (Mark cleaned Catrina's fenders and organized his lockers on Flo).   Decided to take care of our Mexican fix by enjoying some wonderful Mexican fare at Casa Las Palmas for lunch.    Then to Sandusky (20 miles) to pick up a Rx at Target and other piddles.    A few other stops and on home - the air feels so pleasant today!!!

Did Zoom with Kathy and Claire....great to see them as its been awhile.

It was a beautiful evening, so decided to walk downtown to get our steps and also enjoy a slice of pizza and glass of wine from The Bait House along the water.   Boy, is it nice to not have that blasted humidity!!!

Beautiful reflection on the water tonight

Monday - August 30

Had a nasty ole thunderstorm last night around 9:30....heavy rain, thunder, lightning.    Woke up to gloomy, grey skies, but around 10, the sun came out and more pleasant temps in the low 80's.    We had pancakes, sausage and strawberries for breakfast (the fruit we've had from Bassett's has been absolutely wonderful....peaches, strawberries, blueberries, plums, etc.).    While I was working in Flo, Mark got one of Catrina's propane tanks filled.    We cleaned out and organized lockers, bins, drawers, closets and any nook and cranny that needed cleaning and organizing!!!

We're also sprucing things up a bit as our niece, Megan, nephew Matt and Matt's girl, Kara are coming from Columbus this Labor Day weekend.     They are all grads of Ohio State and we're so excited for them to visit Catrina, Flo and us, hopefully get in some good boating (weather dependent), eating (for sure) and family time (absolutely)!!!

Went for a little dinghy ride in the afternoon - took "Tigger" out on Lake Erie just to say we tried out the new engine on the big lake!    Mark is happy..........

And then Mark said he had an inspiration....."let's get some ice cream"!    Sure!!!   But the 2 places we went were closed on Mondays and we didn't want to go further to Tofts (51 flavors), so stopped at Bassett's and got a few groceries + ice cream treats and on home!

I made some BBQ for supper.    Walked in the evening and visited with Michael and Chris who are staying thru Wednesday.    Just we 4 here in the marina tonight and this pretty sky to enjoy...

Oranges and pinks

Sunday - August 29

16 years exactly from when Katrina hit, now they are dealing with Ida - just unreal!

We had breakfast and then took off for Rite Aid and picked up a few things.    Stopped at the Farmer's Market downtown.    Mark stayed in the cool car and I walked around but didn't buy anything - mostly crafts (homemade honey was popular), a few baked goods booths and just 2 fresh produce stands.

Went to 10:30 Mass at Immaculate Conception with Father Jonathan.    Schools here in Port Clinton start classes tomorrow.    The Immaculate Conception kiddies have a new principal this year - Mrs. Drew.    Last Thursday they had "Popsicles with the Principal and Pastor" at school.

We ate at 1812 several weeks ago and loved it.   Since we're down to our last 8 days, decided there are some definite return-to-eat places we want to hit before we leave.    1812 serves lunch only on Saturdays and Sundays, so went there after church  - Mark had the perch dinner and I had walleye cakes and a wedge salad.    All delicious.    Trying to get in our Lake Erie fresh perch and walleye fix as much as possible!

Stopped at Bassett's for some groceries and on home.    Today "should" be our last really hot humid day!    At least we hope so.

Mark spent time this afternoon plotting our trips coming up when we leave Port Clinton - distance each day, where we'll stay, etc.    I sure appreciate him doing all this and for the most part, he enjoys it!   We'll have Flo, Big Red and my car - a little caravan truckin' down the road.     He also installed the rivet in Flo.

I won in 2 games of euchre, we had a light supper of tuna fish and mararoni salad and then family zoom missing Jim and Nancy.    The highlight for us was seeing Philip who is visiting Mike and Theresa (while on a leg flying in and out of Chicago).   Lots of discussion on IL mandate effective tomorrow for masks indoors for all, the kids wearing masks at school (no problem) but dealing with the parents (another story), Janet's very painful knee after meniscus surgery, Marilyn making plans to come to Fort Myers for February visit, etc....

Back to work tomorrow.....nice to have a day off from our "chores" and stay out of the heat!

Have a good week!

Saturday - August 28

Boy oh boy, the humidity was already 89% when we got up....another "drippy" day on the way.    We love keeping up with family and boating friends in their travels thru their daily blog.    Beeb and Frank are back on their boat in Cheboygan, MI after a 2-week trip home to NY.    Yesterday they had lots of rain and temps in the low 60's.    Crazy....

Mark did book work in the morning.    A quiet weekend here at Superior - Tom, Michaela, Ruth and Steve all moved on yesterday so back to just us during the week and the owners came last night (Chris, Michael, Dennis and Terry) and then left for Put In Bay.    This marina and the owners + Dave (dockmaster) continue to amaze us with their 1st class operation and the things they do to make this place so special.    Yesterday 2 gals came from a canvas store and over the top of concrete blocks (big straps hold down the tent), they now have very nice white coverings.   Looks so much better.   They also have an ice machine so never want for that plus a big box is sitting in the storage building "washing machine"   Oh my, wouldn't that be nice!    Hopefully a dryer, too  😀

Looks like a wedding....but just a nice touch here at the marina covering up cement blocks
with boxes of flowers!

Also while I was in the building working on Flo, a guy was inside with a long brush cleaning the inside padded walls - really?   The building is immaculate and we sooo appreciate a nice home for Flo and Big Red during the summer months.    Tuesday, the 7th, Catrina will be lifted out at 8:30 AM, so we have a little more than a week to "do our thing" - really nice to just work away "little by little and bit by bit".    You would think with 2 tiny homes, we wouldn't have so much stuff????   Well, we do!    Ha!!!

Mark needs some days to do inside jobs with this heat, so that's the plan for today.    Good news coming for next week with temps in the 70's.!

We went to Coffee Express and shared a chicken salad on croissant with veggies and dip for lunch.   I ordered a specialty latte (almond/coconut) and they suggested blending it - sure!   WOW....it was delicious!

Mark has been getting some bids for winter jobs on Catrina....new canvas for bimini, wash/wax, fiberglass work, etc.

Spaghetti and salad for supper.

The news has certainly been scary the past few days - praying for our military and the many others who died in the vicious attack in Afghanistan.   And their families - reading their stories is heartbreaking.    And now Hurricane Ida is roaring towards New Orleans and LA and on the 16th anniversary of Katrina.    🙏🙏🙏

I was texting my friend Jackie tonight.    Jackie and her husband Darryl live in Metarie (suburb of New Orleans) and they are currently S L O W L Y moving along in heavy traffic.    They haven't made it to Mobile yet and what should been around a 2.5 hr trip is now into hour #7.    Oh my.....we were watching the LONG lines evacuating on the weather channel.     Orange Beach is their destination for tonight.

Jackie and I were rommates back in 2012 when Ryan and her son William were deployed on the USS Stennis and we were on the Tiger Cruise from Honolulu to San Diego.    Ryan and William now both fly for FedEx.

Mark was reading that the economic inpact for Put In Bay and the area will be $10-16 million from the concerts (Bash on the Bay) the past few days!     Wow!  Wow!  Wow!

Still very warm tonight but we enjoyed a dinghy ride and was cooler on the water.    Back on land.....stifling with not a leaf stirring!

Friday - August 27

Another hot 'n steamy day.....Mark was off to run several errands and stopped at McDonalds.    The sign on the door said "Now hiring at $14/hr with a $200 signing bonus + $200 to the employee who recommended you + $2500 off your college tuition!"    Wow....now McDonalds has really upgraded the incentives to get people back to work.   It is crazy crazy!!!!!

So, while Mark was gone I washed Catrina and dealt with a bunch of nasty spiders .    Last night when we were sitting under the tent with Steve and Ruth, a guy came to the marina and had a long handled gizmo and went around swatting at these nasty bugs.   Then he sprayed all over.....but they were back big time again this morning!    Two big topics these days - the heat and the spiders!!!

A young couple arrived here at Superior a few days ago -  Tom and Michaela are from Cleveland and have some neat fold-up electric bikes that we are thinking about getting?    These are light weight and the fact that they fold up is an extra bonus.   We shall see.    Anyway, these "youngsters" came to Fort Clinton for the 2 big concerts the past 2 nights at Put In Bay (Blake Shelton on Wednesday and Keith Urban last night).    They rode their bikes to the ferry which took them to Put In Bay, rode their bikes to the airport and along with over 15,000 fans enjoyed the 2 concerts, but it was so HOT and everyone had to stand.     Great entertainment, but.....

Mark picked up his new dinghy engine so he's happy!!!   We went for a "short" ride - too hot!

Mark's new toy!

We've been praying all day for the safe return of Michelle's (Jim and Lydia's daughter-in-law) Dad who disappeared yesterday from his home in a suburb of St. Louis.    He is 80, has dementia and other health issues.    Thankfully he was found this afternoon in Arkansas and is ok.    Scary...scary....

Played some euchre this afternoon with Mark winning both games.   We went to the Island House for dinner - so nice 'n cool and great dinners (ribs for Mark and perch for me)!

Our NC Littles and their classmates (11 in each class)!

Luke (lower right)

Enjoy your weekend - stay cool, safe and healthy!

Thursday - August 26

Woke up to lots of wind and very dark skies, but nothing developed and we had another very warm sunny day.

So today we started tackling our projects with me going back and forth from Catrina to Flo with stuff we won't need in the next 2 weeks and get both homes organized!    Last night Mark advertised the dinghy engine on Facebook Marketplace and got 7 responses.    The first guy came today from 2 hours away to pick it up.   We'll be picking up our new, much lighter-weight one tomorrow.   Mark changed the oil and filters in Catrina and the Lincoln guy came with a loaner and took my Corsair away for its 20,000 mile check-up.    It just turned one year old and has 19,600 miles already!!!   Geez and it's been in storage most of the summer!     They brought it back in less than 2 hours nice 'n clean!

We did a pump out in the afternoon - whew it is HOT!    Mark had some messy jobs today but came thru like a trooper!

After supper we had drinks with Steve and Ruth from New Hampshire under the tent.    They are Loopers and will store their beautiful Fleming (one of our favorite boat brands) here at Superior Marine this fall.    They wanted our thoughts on next summer's travels on Lake Huron (Georgian Bay and the North Channel).   We had such a fun visit and hope to meet up with them this winter as they'll be staying in Punta Gorda.

Bob and Donna who are here at Superior Marine (their home port like us) came later - they, too, have a Fleming so the 2 owners of these gorgeous boats met for the lst time.    Bob later stopped by with some apples from their orchard.   They live near Columbus on a farm.

Happy National Dog Day to Gibson and Frankie enjoying the cool indoors on another hot day in Bloomington!

Tuesday-Wednesday - August 24-25

Tuesday - Mark picked up breakfast at Coffee Express (crab/Swiss quiche for me and ham/cheese/egg sandwich for him + our coffees).    I finished packing and we left around 11 for our little getaway to Toledo.    Had some stops along the way.....Dave (dockmaster) had told Mark about the Airstream refurbishing business in Helena, OH.    Mark needed some outside rivets for Flo and the minimum order from Airstream is 100.............we certainly didn't need 100 rivets for $30.    So, thought we would stop and see this place.    It was a lovely farm in rural Helena with 2 story farmhouse, beautiful flowers, corn and bean fields.   And then the machine shed where the son worked on refurbishing old Airstreams and customize them however the customer wanted - food trucks, new interior, exterior, etc.   He was working on a 1992 one - it was beautiful!   He has several going and it is quite the bustling business.    If you wanted something done at this point, it would be at least a year till he could get to it.

So, Mom and Dad live in the farmhouse, their son has this Airstream business handed down from Grandpa, Dad and now son (they also farm).    Across the lane was "The Summer Kitchen Interiors" which the 2 daughters have owned for 26 years and oh my...............I had so much fun browsing thru beauiful home decor, gourmet foods and just a delightful shop.   Apparently they do a great business out in the country and I was thinking "If I had a home and not 2 tiny houses, I could have a heyday in here"!    Ha...I did pick up a few things and we really enjoyed this very nice family....and the son gave Mark 7 rivets!!!

Next stop was in Rossdale, OH at Target for several piddlies.    Then to Bath 'n Body which was a few doors down and finally onto Costco in Perrysburg, OH to stock up on wine and some snacks.

The owner of Summer Kitchen said we should be sure to check out the blue painted silos with sunflowers in Toledo.   She was so fun to visit with and I would love to see her business at Christmastime - she and her sister always have fun things going on.

We checked into our BnB "Casey-Pomeroy House" and were met and welcomed by Patrick, the Innkeeper.    He gave us a little tour and history of this unbelievable home.    Built in the 1870's, it is 14,000 square feet and was owned by 3 separate families (Casey, Pomeroy and  Worthington) back in the beginning.    The Diocese of Toledo purchased the home and converted it into a Jesuit school and finally a convent for the nuns on the 3rd floor.   The many rooms were classrooms and the architecture was amazing with tall ceilings, windows and doors, arched doorways,  wood floors and beautiful trim.

After sitting empty and abandoned for 8 years, the Diocese sold it to Sue, a neighbor who had always admired the home and felt that it should be restored, so.....in 2003, she bought it for $10,000 but has put in over $900,000 with lots more work needing to be done especially on the exterior.    What a never-ending project - cannot begin to comprehend all that work and $$$ in trying to restore to its original beauty!

Settled into our room and then drove downtown.    It was so hot (heat index of 97), so really didn't want to walk around.    We passed the baseball stadium of the Mud Hens in Hensville, a minor league triple A team.

Back to our room to change and off to dinner at Mancy's, a 100-year old steakhouse and institution in Toledo for thee finest steaks, service and ambiance.    The building is beautiful with brick walls, lots of stained glass (ceiling) and just very warm and homey.  Lexi was our waitress (reminded us of our niece, Bridget) - steaks were deeevine and everything was just so special as we celebrated #53 of our engagement!    A great day in Toledo!

Wednesday - rainy start to the day but Patrick prepared a delicious breakfast (cantaloupe and blueberries, yogurt with homemade granola, sausage/egg casserole, grapefruit slices, cinnamon struesel coffee cake, juice and coffee.    We had a nice visit with Joe and Pat from PA who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and on a 2-week trip.    Today they were going to Frankenmuth, MI and other fun spots ending up on Mackinac Island.

Patrick had told us his job is in IT and then part-time innkeeper.    He proposed to his wife at Mancy's and has 2 children (16 and 20).    His 16-year old daughter has a dove business and provides the doves for weddings, funerals, other special occasions.    Just so interesting to visit with nice folks.   One of the things we enjoy while staying at a BnB which we haven't  done in a long time.

Yesterday we were trying to track down the blue silos with sunflowers.    We could see them (ADM plant) from a distance along the Maumee River but could not get up close??    I asked Patrick and he told us where we should go for best viewing, so.....still not the best, but quite the story.  Most of my pics came from the internet.

There are 28 tall silos that are old and grey.     One day in the summer of 2019, some friends were cruising past in their boat and the ladies decided something should be done to spruce those old silos up.

Getting started
Still painting these Native Americans
Beautiful!!!

They've raised $500,000 of the $750,000 estimate,  the silos were painted a bright blue and then someone painted the sunflowers.    Apparently the sunflowers and 3 Native Americans project was started in June and will be finished by the end of August.  Patrick was very disappointed that after all they went thru to make this happen and all the $ raised, they hired someone from California to paint the mural when "we have so much local talent here in Toledo"!     But a project of this magnitude wouldn't be for just any mural painter?

This beautiful mural (largest in the world) will provide a real treat to all the travelers (80,000 daily) who pass by on Interstates 75 (north/south) and 80/90 (east/west).

Something we've not seen before but saw several in rural Ohio as we were traveling thru the country.

Stop signs (small) at all railroad crossings that do not have arms to come down!
Makes sense!

We were back in Port Clinton by 11:30 driving thru rain and lots of water standing here in marina parking lot.

I talked to the owner of BeYOUtiful nails about my fiasco experience on Monday.    Supposedly one of their gals does work on Sundays and Mondays if she has appts., but somehow, she didn't get back to me that she wasn't going to be there????    The owner was very very sorry and no excuse why her employee didn't call to cancel?     I set up another appt. for a mani-pedi for the 7th, so we shall see!!!

It's been so HOT in central IL - heat index well over 100 for several days and more to come.    Anne said sporting events and practices have been canceled.   Wise decision.

I had my leftovers from Mancy's for supper and made Mark a BLT.

Happy 48th Anniversary to Jim (Mark's brother) and Lydia!

Monday - August 23

Hot 'n sunny....Mark went to Coffee Express for some coffees and I made ham/cheese omelets and toast.    Then loaded up all our laundry and off to get that task done.   Mark helped me get set up with all the loads and then ran a bunch of errands.    When he returned, I was finishing up the folding and he did the socks (his job) 😀    Then to Bassetts for some groceries and on home.    Got everything put away, had lunch and then Mark started in on job list.   Yesterday he was able to fix the auto pilot which had been acting up -  thankful he's so handy as that could've been $$.    Today he installed the new shower pump.

Arghhhh, I've had the worst luck getting a mani/pedi here in Port Clinton.    Either they did not do a good job and don't last for 2 weeks or one shop I had gone to just closed abruptly with no explanation, another had no openings till 1st week in October  and today....I had an appt. at 2 with Danielle who I went to a year ago (she's busy so haven't been able to get in this year).    I didn't think they were open on Mondays but whoever I talked to said "yes, what time would you like?"   I said 2:00 and then got a confirmation text.   I went there today - all closed till 9 AM tomrrow?    I was not a happy boater!!!!    What is with this town and espcially BeYOUtiful nails saying they were open today, gave me an appt., sent confirmation and then closed???    Ok, no more on that subject!!!!    In light of all that's going on in our world, this is piddly diddly stuff!!!

Tomorrow is the 53rd anniversary of our engagement.   We always do something special to celebrate - usually a nice dinner out.   Planning a little getaway to Toledo, so...no blog till Wednesday.

A memory from 1 year ago on the 24th.....we had been out west for 10 weeks and our last stop was Iowa City for the weekend to visit Drew.    That Monday we were headed to Pontiac to pick up my new car when Brooke called and said Drew had tested positive!!!    Oh my.....did a contactless pick-up of car with no instructions (we'll read the manual) and then had to cancel a bunch of dr. appts (upcoming cataract surgery) since we had to quarantine for 14 days.   Oh well...it all worked out but seems like only yesterday!

Formula is an expensive brand of go-fast, high quality boats and today this beauty was delivered by this huge oversized trailer from Decatur, IN (manufacturer) along with front and back accompanying cars for oversized loads.   This beauty has four 600-HP engines that each cost $77,000.    Love the rich burgundy color.    Apparently it was brought here to our marina and taken out for a test run before heading to its new home in Florida.

Love this rich burgundy color

Sunset over the Portage River tonight

Sunday - August 22

A perfect summer Sunday for our last day on the water for 2021 (well, at least for a big cruise of 76 miles from Jefferson Beach to Port Clinton and "Home Sweet Home").    We left at 7:30 and had nice calm conditions with oodles of fishermen out doing their thing (Mark estimated over 100)!

On a clear day "you can see forever"!
Another view of the Detroit skyline
The Edgar B. Speer

We made the noon bridge and settled into #20 (Les Chaneaux) here at Superior Marine.    Dennis, Terry, Michael and Chris (owners) were getting ready to leave for an afternoon on the lake, so we talked briefly and they were off.    We enjoyed a quiet afternoon and the AC.   I won at cards.   Mark picked up some packages from the office and he has some jobs awaiting him these next 2 weeks and a "list" of things he hopes to accomplish before we leave on the 7th.

Yesterday Mark was having some twinges in his back, so back to the brace and ibuprofen.   Today, seems much better.   He's been doing so well.....fingers crossed and he's at the point of knowing what he can and can't do and how to go about doing it!!!

Had a nice visit with Chris and Michael under the tent and out of the hot sun.   They had a fun afternoon on Kelley's Island.
Mark's sister Sharon and her California grandbabies

7 on Zoom tonight - talk of Covid (getting it, recovering, etc.), Doris' upcoming knee replacement, new home for niece Cory and family, etc., etc.

Have a happy, healthy week!

Saturday - August 21

Another warm sunny day although lots of fog earlier this morning.    We walked to McDonalds (short jaunt and opposite direction from the Catch 22 Bistro yesterday) for some exercise, coffee and cinnamon rolls.

Back to Catrina and got ready for departure leaving at 10 and arriving at noon at St. Clair Shores.    Pretty ride (love these clean, clear blue waters and we'll miss that when we are back on Lake Erie tomorrow)!    What wonderful boating country up here!!!

Charlotte and her buddies really did a number last night with their intricate web spinning - this was by far the worst (or prettiest) designs we've seen yet,    Hard to get pics (they were everywhere) with the bright sun but here's a few...

The owners of this sweet little cottage at the Algonac marina love their lavender flowers

2 ferries passing from Algonac to Harsens Island
LOVE this water

We settled back in our spot here at Jefferson Marina, had lunch and I walked a bit to see a wedding/reception happening here at the marina.
One wedding over and getting ready for the next
Reception site - The Ovation docked here at Jefferson Marina

At 3, we left for church knowing it was hot, humid and 1.7 miles away.   It takes forever just to get out of the marina and then onto Jefferson (Nautical Mile).  We were surprised to see 2 very long stretch limos come into the marina - another wedding party???    So, trying to break our trip up a bit, we stopped at Mastro's for ice cream - they make their own dipped waffle cones and bowls.   Mark had a chocolate with M & M's dipped bowl with butter pecan (they were out of rocky road).   I had a chocolate dipped nutty bowl with sea salt caramel pretzel ice cream - all delicious.    Mastro's does not have inside dining (plenty of room but apparently did away with tables and chairs cause of Covid)?   So, we sat in the window seat and enjoyed our treats - too hot to go back outside especially when we were only 1/2 way to church.    So, after a nice rest, we were on our way to St. Lucy's and so nice to be there plenty early, cool down and of course, pray for soooo many on our prayer lists.

Father James Commyn is the priest and has a litle tidbit section in the bulletin "Commyn Cents" - neat!
Mass was at 4:30 and then time to start back but another break at Waves for dinner.   We had to wait just a bit for a table.  Mark had the pork chops and I had a Caribbean-style chicken breast sandwich.  Both were really good.  And then the last leg on back to Catrina by 7:15.   Been a big day and tomorrow we are headed to Port Clinton and our last trip of the season.    Where oh where has this summer gone?

Looking back on the blog from 2008, we were at Waves for dinner on August 9, St. Lucy's for Mass on the 10th and then onto Algonac on the 11th.   Thirteen years and 10 days later.

Friday - August 20

The heat of summer is on here in Michigan....we walked downtown for breakfast at The Raven Cafe (since 2002) -  what a cool eclectic place with huge menu (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and all delicious (latte, sausage/bacon pita pizza for me and coffee, bacon/cheese burrito wtth other good stuff).   Our server was great, too and definitely a place to return, along with the Vintage Tavern from yesterday - till next summer???

Very neat coffee cafe/restaurant in downtown Port Huron, MI

Soo true - saw this downtown

Walked around downtown - we remembered from 13 years ago how sad that the majority of stores were empty.    It looked better today with one side of the street totally full but across, many closed but hopefully, some were being remodeled including a big "city market" that looks very promising.

Back to Catrina with our leftovers, got everything ready for today's trip and then moved down the dock for fuel and pump out by Claire, a college gal and most helpful.    She doesn't start classes till the 30th and most of the Michigan kiddos are not going back till then or later.

A long row of these nice-looking condos across the Black River from us at Port Huron
Sarnia, Ontario across from Port Huron

And then we were back on the St. Clair River - lots of boats going north and probably several were coming into River Street Marina for the weekend.    Although the river was pretty smooth with that beautiful clear blue color, the wakes from all the boats made it lumpy when they went flying by.

28 miles later we arrived in Algonac, MI (12:15) and what a warm welcome from Peter, the harbormaster.    We had a nice visit and then set to work with our fenders, adjusting lines, and hooking up the power cords and water hose.    Mark walked to the office - we noticed they have a nice pool and my thoughts immediately were "I'm going to use that this afternoon."    The temperature was so pleasant on the water (no jackets or blanket today) but boy, on land....hot 'n humid.    Mark is not a pool person so he stayed on the boat.  Years ago I was a real sun worshipper but those days are long gone.   Did enjoy my hour today, though.

Back to Catrina around 3:30 and Mark was ready to eat.....we walked to Catch 22 Bistro a short jaunt outside the marina.    We've eaten sooooo much good food all summer and today was another winner.   I had a salad with smoked salmon.   Mark had the liver and onions (something he loves and doesn't have very often).   We were both happy.   Kroger was next door so stopped in there and on back to the boat to cool off.

My Captain enjoyed his liver 'n onions!

Walked in the early evening to get our steps but boy, it is HOT - it's the weekend and the boaters are here big time for the pool, tiki bar and Port O Call (marina restaurant) + hang out with family and friends on their boats.   This is a very large marina and lots of space for boaters to spread out and have fun!

Have a good ole summertime weekend of fun!    Mark won at cards tonight!  We are going back to Jefferson Beach in St. Clair Shores tomorrow.    Luckily we can have our same spot back!

Someone took this picture yesterday as we were coming into Port Huron.
They shared with our friends in NY who shared with us!

Thursday - August 19

We left St. Clair Shores (Jefferson Beach Marina) at 7:20 after swiping away at the spiders and gnats who made another mess overnight!!!   We had 40 miles today and I had made a 12:30 haircut appointment, so off we went.   The lake was pretty flat, the sun was shining and it was 70 degrees.    We started on Lake St. Clair, then the St. Clair River and finally on Black River here in Port Huron.   We passed by many small cottages and big mansions - lots of summertime and year-round fun here plus several freighters with Michigan on our port (left) side and Canada to our starboard (right).

We arrived at River Street Marina around 11:45, and were helped tie up along the wall by 2 nice young high school men.    We settled in and then I was off to walk 3/10 of a mile to the Black River Beauty Bar for a much-needed "new" do from Tori.    This place just opened this past Tuesday - 2 gals who worked together at another salon now have their new place - very nice!

I called Mark when I finished and he met me and we walked downtown (3-4 more blocks) for lunch at the Vintage Tavern.    Both Tori and the folks at the marina office recommended this place + a few others.   It was in an old preserved building with wooden floors, brick walls and tin ceilings.   Our drinks, food and dessert were all top-notch.    Mark had braised short ribs and I had "grown-up" grilled cheese with bacon and apple jam.   We shared tuxedo cake which was heavenly!

Back to Catrina with the windows open and a lovely afternoon (79) - read, took little cat naps and did face time with Luke, Maeve, Philip and Annette.

Beautiful start to the day
Some of the biggie homes along the way

Passing by the Great Lakes Maritime Museum
This boat is docked behind us here at the marina
Mark remembers it from 13 years ago.....Italy???

We had cheese/salami/crackers and grapes for a light supper after the big lunch and then went for a walk along the water.

Pretty murals on the bridges downtown

A neat nautical bike rack

Port Huron is a nice place to be and we had wanted 2 nights here, but tomorrow 18 boats are coming for the weekend and they need our spot, so......time to move on.    Algonac is our next stop.

Wednesday - August 18

The remmants of Fred which were to come today didn't happen and all the rain went to the east of us.    So, we enjoyed a pretty day of sunshine, 81 and nice breeze.   2 big things on today's agenda - laundry and wash Catrina.    We are 6/10 of a mile from boat to laundry here at Jefferson Beach Marina.    So Mark hooked up the wagon to the bike, we loaded it up with our stuff and off he went with me walking.    Just $1 a load for wash and dry - what a deal!

Here comes my laundry man!

While the 2 washers and dryers were doing their thing, I sat with a good book,  and Mark rode his bike to Kroger (another 1.3 miles) to pick up a few things.    I folded the clothes, he hooked the wagon back up to bike and we were off.    Then time to tackle Catrina - as I've said before, the bugs have been really bad and this morning the back of Catrina was covered with little gnats - ugh!    So, I got all set up to scrub those little suckers off my boat and for now, we have a beautiful clean boat - til tomorrow when Charlotte will be back overnight "doing her thing"!   Ha!

We walked down to the Watermark for lunch - got there at 12:45 (they opened at noon) - no inside dining again today and all tables outside were full.    We were able to sit at the bar and have a delicious lunch (perch for Mark and a Maurice salad for me).

Delicious and reminded me of the Maurice salad at Jim's Steak House in Bloomington which has been a long-time favorite.    This had chopped gherkin pickles instead of the bacon!

The clouds rolled in this afternoon....but then later this evening, the sun came out and we had a very pleasant walk checking out all the BIG yachts here!!!

Ryan returned home safely last night after a month out of the country delivering packages!
