Monday - September 30

The beautiful song by Elton John "Can you feel the LOVE tonight" has been in my thoughts as it was so meaningful this past week with overwhelming love and support shown to Anne, Liam and Connor

So many tears, so many hugs..........   The huge visitation and funeral showed us just how much Patrick was loved and the many lives he touched.

The boys school families, their hockey and baseball teams, State Farm, neighbors, friends and family have been wonderful.    Mark and I are so very grateful for this amazing outpouring of love.

Today the boys are back in school - Mark and I have our list of things to do around town.    Anne will be out and about with her lists, phone calls, etc.    The Campbells' are ready to get back in somewhat of a routine or as the saying goes "their new normal".

So......we'll keep in touch and a huge thank you for your thoughts, prayers and support during this very sad time.

RIP Patrick
We 💗 you

Friday-Saturday, September 20-21

1965-2019

Late Thursday-Friday - Our hearts are very heavy today as with complete disbelief our dear Patrick passed away.    I last posted on Thursday evening and shortly after, Anne told us she had called 911 for Patrick.    He was admitted to St. Joe's, had surgery (complications from earlier colon surgery in Chicago).    First, thinking it was successful, we later learned things spiraled out of control and just like that, he was in very critical condition.    Anne and I spent the night in ICU and Mark was home with the boys.

So much activity in ICU with many machines doing their thing to help Patrick.   But we were told that there was nothing more to do.    I can't describe the shock knowing he was going to be leaving us.    The boys came after school - heart wrenching to see them with their Dad who was unconscious.   Drew arrived from Iowa City and was a great comfort to the boys.   And then.....at 8:08, Patrick's heart stopped and he was gone.

Saturday - The guys spent last night on Flo and Anne and I packed up our stuff from the hospital  and on home.    We were both up early and sat at the kitchen table crying and making lists.   We are just in "I can't believe this is happening mode".......off to the funeral home, florist, grocery store, etc.    Drew took the boys golfing and bought live crickets for their pet lizard.

So many friends stopped by with food and non-perishables - what wonderful support.    Lots of hugs and more tears.    Patti, (neighbor and dear friend to the Campbell's) brought supper.    It was a long busy day with much accomplished.

So Mark and I are back on Flo tonight and Anne is hanging out with her boys and Drew.

Patrick was one-of-a-kind and will be dearly missed.....the outpouring of love with wonderful tributes on Facebook says so much.   It's just an unbelievably sad time but faith, family and friends will get us thru these next few days!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PHILIP
Philip and his Moppet

Thursday - September 19

Congratulations
Michael and Brooke are celebrating their
21st wedding anniversary!

We had a good catch-up morning on Flo taking dare of correspondence, phone calls, and other incidentals!

Claire and I tried a new place for lunch - Ruth's Garden Tea Room in ElPaso - very good.   I will not see her till late October in Fort Myers!

Patrick's friend, Bob, Mark and I took turns staying with Patrick today...

Mark picked Liam up from school and I got Connor.   Mark took Connor to practice.   We met back here at KK at 4:30 and enjoyed some adult beverages, walked around the park and rehashed the day!

BLT's for supper - thanks so much for the wonderful home-grown tomatoes, Claire!

Wednesday - September 18

Warm sunny day......Donna Rae had invited us to have breakfast with her at Westminster Village - delicious and of course, a great visit.    Said our good byes and off to get some groceries for Anne and us.    Stopped to see Patrick and I stayed with him in the afternoon - made country chicken casserole and peachy frozen salad.    Mark went on home to Kamp Komfort.

Picked Liam and friend, Blaise up at St. Pat's of Merna - they had an all-day freshman retreat.    Took Liam home to stay with his Dad and I picked up Connor and took him to baseball practice.

I came back to KK for a little bit - unpacked some of our stuff.    Then we drove back to town and had a wonderful dinner with friends, Pat, Brenda, Sue and Jerry and relatives of Brenda - Paul and Paula Chamberlain from Houston.
We were celebrating Pat and Brenda's 50th (September 26th) and our 50th (June 28th).    Lots of fun!

Patrick is hurting....

Tuesday - September 17

Patrick and Anne are home.....now we pray his recovery goes smoothly!     And tonight, the boys were finished at 6 (just baseball practice for Connor from 4-6 with NO practice for Liam or game for Connor, so they can have some family time!)

Mark picked Liam up from school, I went to CVS to get some things for Anne and then we left for Kamp Komfort - good to be back here and on Flo.   When we got here later this afternoon, there were several  available spots.......but sure didn't take long and the ole campground was full!

Unloaded some of our stuff from the truck....there's always tomorrow!

My day started out with 8:00 Mass with Claire followed by breakfast at Coffee Hound.   So fun to be together and catch up.....

Awesome skinny vanilla latte and avocado toast!
A selfie of Claire and Pat

And then it was time to say good bye to Claire (till Thursday) and off I went to Biaggi's to meet my Sublettian friends for lunch.    Lots of laughs with these crazy, awesome friends/kin.
Pat, Debbi, Marilyn and Jane

Nighty night!

Monday - September 16

Another busy day......Patrick did not come home today!    They are sooo ready to get out of there!

I was off to get my new crown at the dentist at 8.    Liam left at 8:15 for a community service project  at St. Vincent de Paul.      Mark and I went to breakfast with the Monday morning bunch and then back home to get Connor.    Mark and Connor ran several errands, I ran errands and then we met for lunch at Jimmy Johns.

We went grocery shopping, to storage and on home.    Mark made a trip to Kamp Komfort, I took Liam to work out at 4 Seasons and Connor was picked up for baseball game in LeRoy.

Later, Mark and I went to the game which the Saints won 15-1.    We watched a little of the Lady Saints game (regional finals, but they lost, so their season is over).

Liam had hockey practice at night......whew.....busy busy day!    Back to school tomorrow!

Sunday - September 15

A very wet Sunday morning with lots of thunder and lightening.   We had breakfast and just lounged around before 11:00 Mass at St. Pat's of Merna.    Beautiful liturgy by Father Bolek and singing by contemporary choir.    Nice to see some familiar faces that I hadn't seen in a while, including my favorite therapists at MCO - Lee and Donna.    Mark was pleased that he was able to fully genuflect since the incident with Jack Dempsey 8 weeks ago!!!

Patrick called and sounded really good,,,,hoping to come home tomorrow!

This is Lauren, one of Patrick's nurses.    She used to be an ice sweeper for the Blackhawks - but now a nurse for 5 years.   Imagine those 2 had a lot to chat about!!!

While Mark and Liam went to Lowe's to get some light bulbs, Connor and I went to Starbucks.   Then to CVS for prescriptions and on home.    Changed clothes and Connor set to work making another batch of banana bread and Liam mowed the front lawn.     With the sun coming out and nice breeze, grass was pretty dry.

Getting the chores done around the house!

Connor left with a friend to play golf and Mark took Liam to hockey - we'll go to his game later.   When Connor got home, he finished mowing.

The Constitution Trail is very close here and I had a great walk yesterday.....this afternoon I made mini meat loaves for the freezer.

Went to the game on the big ice at the Coliseum.    The Bloomington Sharks were playing their first scrimmage game (hockey players from area high schools).    Liam scored the first goal, but then it was all downhill and we lost 7-2.    Fun to see Liam back in action!

We ordered Little Caesars Pizza (Liam's choice) for supper.

Maeve and Luke hanging out on a Sunny September Sunday!

No school tomorrow....

Saturday - September 14

Warm and sunny.....Connor was a big help this morning doing some odd jobs around the house AND making 2 loaves of delicious banana bread.   Since I've not not done much in the domestic-line-of-duty, it was fun to be working in a kitchen again!

My kitchen buddy

Mark took the boys to Busy Corner for lunch and then to Kamp Komfort to get some clothes and things from Flo.    I did some jobs around the house, laundry, dead-headed the flowers and watered, etc.

Connor had a double header starting at 3:30 - after 3 successive wins, today was not pretty with 2 losses (10-0 and 5-3).    The other team (Pleasant Plains) had a perfect game going as none of our team had reached base.    And then in the bottom of the 7th, Connor got the only hit of the game and only base runner!

Picked up Avanti's for supper and on home!    We are all tired, especially our baseball star!    Tomorrow, taking a break from baseball and onto hockey with Liam.

Holy moly.....who is this?    Maeve?   What happened to all your curls!    I guess a good night's sleep and a bit of bed head will do this?

Friday - September 13

Much cooler day.....in the 70's and cloudy and breezy all morning.    Mark took Liam to CCHS and I took Connor to Corpus Christi.      Mark drove to Kamp Komfort and spent the day working on Flo projects.   I picked up Panera pastries and Starbucks coffee and spent a fun morning visiting with Donna Rae at Westminster Village.

Nice and sunny this afternoon....I got a bunch of texts, e-mails and notes sent.....went for a walk around the lake, read, took a little nap!   Picked Liam and 2 friends (Jack and Danny) up from school (they stayed an hour later to work out).    Took the boys home.   Mark came and we went to Connor's game.   He pitched 6 great innings and only gave up 1 run.    They won 9-2/    Then we were off to Steak 'n Shake.    Liam was with friends.

 Patrick is doing well!!!

Last night at the ole ballpark....
Liam and Grandma
8th graders and their parents (+Grandma)

Enjoy your weekend - 3 days for our boys with no school Monday!

Thursday - September 12

Very happy and thankful to report that Patrick's surgery (3 hours) was successful - removal of his colon except for 6".    He will be in the hospital 3-5 days.    Mark and I will hold down the fort here with the boys.

I took Connor to school and then off to Mendota and drove thru very heavy rain....yikes, wasn't predicted, but a real gully washer.   Stopped at Bob and Linda's and visited till time to go to Sublette for my cousin Jim's funeral.   Very nice Mass and excellent homily by Father Randy making it all about Jim and his strong faith, many friends and always upbeat with a remarkable memory.    Despite his many challenges, Jim always had a smile.

You will be missed, Jim

After a wonderful brunch and great visits with many relatives and friends, I was on my way back to Bloomington.      Before the game, there was a little program honoring the 8th graders on the team and their parents who were presented with a yellow rose and had pictures taken.   "Grandma" filled in for missing Mom and Dad.    And then the Corpus Christi Saints went on to win 10-6.

Mark was near Flint, MI last night (terrible storms) and got the hitch checked over by manufacturer this morning.    He had a long drive and awful traffic but arrived at Kamp Komfort late this afternoon.    He arrived at the ballpark with Connor batting with the bases loaded.    Connor hit it to shortstop who bobbled the ball and run scored, bases still loaded.....exciting!!

We're staying in town with the boys and more baseball and hockey coming thru the weekend!

Wednesday - September 11

We'll never forget

Liam and Connor were off to school and Anne, Patrick and I went to breakfast at Garden of Paradise.    They left for Chicago and I ran several errands and did some laundry.     Walked around the lake - hot out there.    2 straight days of 90.   And it's hot in NC, too, and this is how Miss Maeve stays cool - loves wearing her swimsuits!

May be competing in the swimsuit competition someday?

Airstream got the alignment done on Flo and Mark was finally on his way out of Jackson Center around 1:30 heading to Holley, MI for the hitch people to check Flo's hitch tomorrow.

Connor had a ballgame - won 8-4 and Connor went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI's.    We talked about 911 ad what they discussed in school.

Batter up!

Liam had hockey practice till 10.

Please say some prayers for Patrick who is having surgery tomorrow at the University of Chicago.

Tuesday - September 10

We were up early this morning.....I left at 7:05 for Bloomington (5-hr. trip) and Mark was ready when the  Airstream folks came to get Flo hooking up with a small John Deere tractor.

It was a beautiful day for travel......I settled in at Anne and Patrick's and returned the rental car at the airport.

The workers tackled our list of things for Flo and then went over everything with Mark.   There is still something with an alignment issue that they will take care of tomorrow.

Good to see the Campbell clan.....our big freshman and 8th grader!    Wow.....and as always, this family is off and running with baseball, working out at the gym, hockey, etc.    Connor had baseball practice tonight.  Anne and Patrick are off to Chicago tomorrow and I will be holding down the fort.

So proud of Patrick and all the weight he's lost!    Monical's pizza for supper and then Liam off to hockey practice.

Monday - September 9

We left River Trail Crossing at 8:30 and took mainly rural roads thru very scenic Ohio.....we only had 100 miles today, so.....pretty homesteads with lots of red barns and then an area where all the barns were white?      Passed many Amish farms and saw some children walking to school.   Definitely back in corn and bean field country.   The crops are still really green.

We stopped in Mount Gilead at a neat very old building housing "Sames and Cook" coffee shop.    It was a 3-story hardware store back in the late 50's-early 60's and been home to other businesses till the coffee shop came about 7 years ago.    Fortunately, they kept the charm of the building with brick walls, wood floors, etc.

Arrived in Jackson Center and got Flo settled in one of the spots reserved for Airstreams here for service with electric and water.    Had lunch and I did some packing.

Late this afternoon we drove to Lima (30 miles) and picked up my rental car for tomorrow's trip to Bloomington.    Mark will join me with Flo and Big Red soon as the warranty work is finished.

Airstreams are everywhere here at their headquarters and factory......new ones, those here for warranty work like Flo, those needing things fixed, some were in accidents and here for repair and some are very old and going to be totally refurbished.

Sunday - September 8

We left the campground around 7:45 and drove into North East, PA (that's actually the name of the town) for 9:00 Mass at St. Gregory Thaumaturgus................or simply, St. Gregory.    The visiting priest today, Father Ross Chamberland was from Bonaventure University in Allegheny, NY (70 miles south of Buffalo).    Father Chamberland is a Franciscan Friar and travels around with a group who minister to professional travelers...........circus performers, carnival workers, people who travel full time for a living.    So, priests, nuns, lay people are there for Mass, education for the children, perform Baptisms, First Communions, Weddings, Funerals, etc.    It was quite interesting and something we and most of the congregation had never heard of.

Father was wearing a stole over his vestments that had been given to him by a recent circus group.    It was quite something with circus tents (the big top) paced strategically down the sides and then a silver glittery cross on each side - as he said, the circus is a glitzy, flashy event!    We told him we were the Chamberlains and also travelers (nomads)!    He would love to live on a boat....nice guy!

We then went to The Bean Coffeehouse just a few blocks away for coffee/latte/cinnamon roll (me), sandwich (Mark) to go.    Cute shop.

We traveled 216 miles today and arrived in rural Butler, Ohio around 2:30 and staying at the River Trail Crossing Campground.  We were all set up before a light rain shower came at 3.    Mark had these campgrounds all figured out and reservations made so we could just pull thru with Flo and not have to unhook.   Trying to make it as easy as possible on his back.....doing great, though!

We passed many vineyards and are parked across the road from a cornfield - corn looks very healthy up here but no sign of turning yet - a late harvest for this area, too.

After supper we went for a walk.    This is a small park and most campers are full summer residents.   Our neighbors next door are from Cape Coral, FL (formerly Palatine, IL).    We found a bike path and what a delightful, scenic area that covers 18 miles from Butler to Mansfield, OH.    It was the former B and O Railroad track in Richland County.

Pretty scenic bridge on our "short" little route

Did not realize that today is National Grandparents Day......Drew sent us a nice note!  💗

Have a good week!

Saturday - September 7

Dreary, cool day with some sprinkles in the morning.    We left Oneida Shores and "back on the road again" by 10:15.     We are in Westfield, NY tonight (10 miles from the PA border).    Flo's home tonight is at the KOA Campground and tah dah.....they have a food truck!     We walked across the road and there was Lake Erie in Ottaway Park.

Calm, peaceful, serene Lake Erie

Not only is there a food truck in the park ("It's All Good"), but they deliver to the RV's.   So we placed an order (they gave us the small menu when we checked in.    Mostly appetizers, clam baskets, pizza, and..............smelt baskets.    A long time ago my Grandpa Gallisath fished for and loved smelt which was a treat when we were at he and Grandma's cabin on the Rock River.    Sure brought memories and they were delicious!!!

Fresh smelt from Lake Erie

We walked around the park after supper - lots of campers, including a birthday party, several campfires and the golf cart out delivering goodies from the food truck.

Friday - September 6

Another awesome day - sure going to miss this incredible New York weather!!!    Sunny and 74 very pleasant degrees.    Love opening Flo's windows and all that fresh air!    We had breakfast (last of the apple fritter bread) and then off to Syracuse with a quick stop for a final coffee/latte at the Ink Corner Cafe.

We were on the hunt for some new carpet in Catrina......found 2 different patterns, so plenty of time to decide as we won't be back till next June.    EXCEPT, after we were back on Flo, Marianne (sales person) called to tell us BOTH patterns we liked had been discontinued!     WHAT?????   Unreal....so, we're back to the drawing board!    ARGHHH!

Went to Target and on home......Mark left after lunch to do the final preparation for Catrina being stored for several months.

We went to EssKay and had one final gathering with Seward, Meg, Phoebe and Mike.    Said our good byes and hugs to Meg and Seward, Ethan, Kim and Tammy.    (I hate good byes)!   What a fun summer we've had with these friends!!!

Seward, Phoebe and Meg

Mike drove us to dinner in Syracuse (where he lives) and we had a fabulous dinner at Francesca's - excellent and along with wine and lots of chatter....made for a very special evening.

Wonderful dinner with Mike...

Said our good byes to Mike and on back to Flo....it's raining!    Sure wasn't predicted?    Tomorrow we'll be on our way....

Drew sent this happy memory from the dude ranch...
Grandma and her girls

Who is this crazy girl?

Miss my sweet, silly Maeve!

Thursday - September 5

Gorgeous day - 73 and all sunshine.    We had breakfast (thee most wonderful "apple fritter" bread (toasted) and fresh nectarines and peaches - THANK YOU, Wegman's!!!    Mark took me to get a mani/pedi and then I walked to Eclipz and Jen gave me a much-needed haircut.   Enjoyed all this pampering!    Then Mark picked me up at 11:45 and we had another great lunch at the Brewerton Diner.

Back to EssKay, got Catrina and Mark cruised on down to Winter Harbor where I met him in Big Red.    I was there to meet him, tie up and then thought we would be back in the morning for the lift out.    Leslie told us if we were ready, they could take us out this afternoon, power wash and put away!   WOW....yes, let's do it!     So, Catrina is inside and all is good - we'll stop by tomorrow just to put out the damp rid, bug fog, etc.    In between, while they were doing the power wash, we went to Arctic King for some yummy ice cream treats.

Back to EssKay to settle our bill and then got to Oneida Shores and Flo around 3:30.     Mark walked over to the big city park where they were weighing in the fish caught today in the Bassmasters tournament.

Okay.....this is quite something and they have these tournaments at several locations around the country.    The latest tally is that 28 states and 4 countries (including 2 from Europe, Japan and Canada) are represented.     There are 180 boats with their angler and co-angler in each boat.    Mark woke up this morning to the Star Spangled Banner starting the official start (been practicing all week).   The boats with their angler and co-angler go out in increments of 18 boats every 15 minutes.   They can catch only 6 and then after the time is up (8 hours) they come in and weigh their fish (if they should get 6 fish right away - (not normal), they would keep fishing cause it's all about weight.   It was broadcast over TV.....I walked over later to see the last of the weigh-in for today.

After tomorrow, they will pick the top 25 (by most weight of caught fish) and they will fish Saturday and Sunday with each of these 25 (anglers and co-anglers) knowing they will be part of the winnings....top prize - $50,000.    It is a BIG deal and just amazed at all these guys - our RV park is full, all the hotels/motels, etc.     Great revenue for Brewerton.

Wednesday - September 4

Lots of rain overnight (great sleeping on Flo) and then around 7, a good ole-fashion thunderstorm happened with thunder, lightning and heavy rain.....didn't last too long.     A few hours later when the sun was shining, we had another brief downpour!    But rest of the day was sunny and breezy,

We made big-time waves on Flo......things are looking good and out stuff put in its place with a pile for Goodwill, to take back to Bloomington storage, etc.

We did facetime with Maeve and Annette (little bit with Philip, too).    Maeve was seriously into her art work - cutting, pasting, etc.....hope she'll make something special to hang on Grandma's fridge.

So, it was 11:30 and with Flo about 85% organized, we took off for lunch - Brewerton Diner was 1st choice, but darn - closed Wednesdays (have new fall hours).    So, went to the Brick House Cafe - very good.    Off to Catrina and oh my, it has become crazy windy.    We got things all ship shape and ready to be delivered to Winter Harbor tomorrow after Mark does a few more things in the morning.

Off to Colonial Laundromat and while I did 6 loads + Catrina's bedding, Mark ran some errands including a stop at Goodwill    It was 5:30 when we finished, so decided to stop at Wegman's and get some Chinese-to-go.    They have an awesome food bar - everything you could want!    DELICIOUS!

Got our stuff put away, enjoyed our dinner and then I walked in the park to get my 10,000 steps.    It has really cooled down....51 by morning.

So heartbreaking to see the aftermath of Dorian in the Abacos - we were there in 2012 with Catrina - such a neat and beautiful bit of paradise but now in ruins.   Praying for the victims and their families and sooo many affected by this terrible tragedy.

A sweet memory from 9 years ago today...
Liam washing Daddy's truck

Tuesday - September 3

So sad to hear that my cousin, Jim passed away early this morning at the Mendota Lutheran Home.    Jim was 79 and had several developmental challenges, but what a dear he was and always so happy to see us when we visited.     Rest in peace, Jim and God bless.....

Mark and I are so tired and exhausted.....but it's a "good" tired!    We worked all day first getting Flo and Big Red connected at Winter Harbor and then taking to the city park.    Then we walked to the marina and got Catrina and docked her close by and then the fun began!!!!!

Took lots and lots of loads of stuff from Catrina to Flo..................didn't want Mark lifting anything really heavy.    It was a big job, but we got 'er done and defrosted and cleaned out Catrina's fridge/freezer.

Catrina to Flo - back 'n forth, over and over, again and again!!!

Seward, Meg and Phoebe stopped by and offered their help and Meg took a tour of Flo.    We were on a roll and just getting ready to have lunch, so....said we'd see them later this afternoon when we returned to Catrina.      Then just as we were about to take Flo to the Oneida Shores Campground, Mike stopped by offering his help.    He helped us with Catrina's lines and we went back to the marina.    Then Mike took us back to Flo (1/4 mile) and Mark and I got her all set up at the campground.   It was a happening place with a huge bass/masters fishing tournament going on.    We are probably the only RV in the park not fishing this week.     They are here from 24 states and Ontario and this is quite the big stakes.....$50,000 top prize.    And these boats are certainly very $$$ and flashy!    Our neighbor is from Daytona Beach.

Still lots to do on Flo, but we took showers and called it a day.    Went back to EssKay and had docktails with Mike, Seward and Meg.   Later, Mark and I went to Sapori's for some awesome
 Italian fare.

Nighty night!!!

Labor Day - 2019

Happy Labor Day - 2019

Busy day of cleaning out closets, drawers, pantry, etc.and loading in bins for tomorrow's transfer to Flo.   Lots of rain overnight and most of the morning.    At 2:00, the sun came out and it was a lovely holiday afternoon and evening.

We had another potluck tonight - mainly leftovers!!!     Of course, so much good stuff....pizza, ribs, burgers, hot dogs, sweet corn, salads, etc.etc.     Tomorrow Jane and George are leaving for several days and off to Washington, DC for Jane's cataract surgery.    We won't see them till next spring.

Our neighbors Meg and Seward and Phoebe who is "1" today.     Phoebe loved munching on
corn on the cob.

Liam, Drew, Anne before Drew left for Iowa City

Sunday - September 1

Welcome September.....cool brisk wind today.    We went to Sacred Heart's 9:30 Mass and on home.     Mark had asked Kim (EssKay owner) to recommend a good strong guy to do some odd jobs today (most involving lifting).    Danny came at noon (he's a senior at SUNY) and what a nice young man and HUGE help lifting bins and other stuff from Flo to back of Big Red, moving bikes and attaching from Catrina to Flo, lifting dinghy out of water for Mark to do some repair work, add new anchor chain, and on and on.

Mark and Danny doing their guy thing
Danny - HUGE help!    THANKS!!!
Boys gotta have a little fun, too!

Tonight, we all gathered (some of the same friends on the dock and new folks).    We ordered 5 large pizzas and had another great evening with this fun group!

Lots of rain in our forecast!
