Friday - August 20

The heat of summer is on here in Michigan....we walked downtown for breakfast at The Raven Cafe (since 2002) -  what a cool eclectic place with huge menu (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and all delicious (latte, sausage/bacon pita pizza for me and coffee, bacon/cheese burrito wtth other good stuff).   Our server was great, too and definitely a place to return, along with the Vintage Tavern from yesterday - till next summer???

Very neat coffee cafe/restaurant in downtown Port Huron, MI

Soo true - saw this downtown

Walked around downtown - we remembered from 13 years ago how sad that the majority of stores were empty.    It looked better today with one side of the street totally full but across, many closed but hopefully, some were being remodeled including a big "city market" that looks very promising.

Back to Catrina with our leftovers, got everything ready for today's trip and then moved down the dock for fuel and pump out by Claire, a college gal and most helpful.    She doesn't start classes till the 30th and most of the Michigan kiddos are not going back till then or later.

A long row of these nice-looking condos across the Black River from us at Port Huron
Sarnia, Ontario across from Port Huron

And then we were back on the St. Clair River - lots of boats going north and probably several were coming into River Street Marina for the weekend.    Although the river was pretty smooth with that beautiful clear blue color, the wakes from all the boats made it lumpy when they went flying by.

28 miles later we arrived in Algonac, MI (12:15) and what a warm welcome from Peter, the harbormaster.    We had a nice visit and then set to work with our fenders, adjusting lines, and hooking up the power cords and water hose.    Mark walked to the office - we noticed they have a nice pool and my thoughts immediately were "I'm going to use that this afternoon."    The temperature was so pleasant on the water (no jackets or blanket today) but boy, on land....hot 'n humid.    Mark is not a pool person so he stayed on the boat.  Years ago I was a real sun worshipper but those days are long gone.   Did enjoy my hour today, though.

Back to Catrina around 3:30 and Mark was ready to eat.....we walked to Catch 22 Bistro a short jaunt outside the marina.    We've eaten sooooo much good food all summer and today was another winner.   I had a salad with smoked salmon.   Mark had the liver and onions (something he loves and doesn't have very often).   We were both happy.   Kroger was next door so stopped in there and on back to the boat to cool off.

My Captain enjoyed his liver 'n onions!

Walked in the early evening to get our steps but boy, it is HOT - it's the weekend and the boaters are here big time for the pool, tiki bar and Port O Call (marina restaurant) + hang out with family and friends on their boats.   This is a very large marina and lots of space for boaters to spread out and have fun!

Have a good ole summertime weekend of fun!    Mark won at cards tonight!  We are going back to Jefferson Beach in St. Clair Shores tomorrow.    Luckily we can have our same spot back!

Someone took this picture yesterday as we were coming into Port Huron.
They shared with our friends in NY who shared with us!
