Sunday - August 15

So.............a wild and woolly 33 mile ride today from Port Clinton to Toledo Beach in LsSalle, MI (just north of the OH border) and 18 miles from Toledo.   The winds were NE and we were going NW but the waves were another story.    Originally thought we would get to the Detroit River, but both of us were happy to end this trip sooner!    We got here at 9:45 and since we hadn't called for a slip, just pulled up to the gas dock.   3 nice young ladies (high school/college age dockhands) had no idea where we should go as the person who is in chage of the transient boaters does not work Saturdays/Sundays?    REALLY?    One of the gals said "this happens all the time"....arghhhh so we moved further down from the gas dock, tied up and settled in.    Not sure if we'll be moving on tomorrow or not.

The girls were telling us about the bad storm they had a few days ago (probably same storm that hit Kelley's Island when we were in the bathroom).   Anyway, some areas are still out of power.   Think I forgot to mention the morning we left KI, one of the boaters told Mark that we had a gust of 70 mph during the height of the storm!    It was a doozy.

On December 4, 2020, a horrible fire broke out here at Toledo Beach in the main maintenance/storage facility which housed 200 boats destroying over 110.    Unbelievable including million-dollar yachts, the sheriff's boat, etc.

We walked around the marina - this is HUGE (550 slips) and also home to the Toledo Beach Yacht Club.    The Sandbar Grill is here but that's about it.  We saw the big fenced-in area where the building burned down - wonder if they'll rebuild?    Lots of boat storage here.    We had lunch at the Sandbar Grill (BBQ pork for Mark and Hawaiian chicken flatbread for me) - good "boat watching" by the marina entrance so lots of boat traffic during lunch and where Catrina is docked - it's a great day for the sailors and they must be loving these strong winds.    We're glad to be in off the lake - but it is a very pretty day with 75 and all sunshine.

Later this afternoon, we read, napped, played some euchre (Mark won) and walked some more.   There is a pool here but quite a jaunt (not that we would use it and for only seasonal boaters).   We went back to the Sandbar for drinks and an appetizer (spring rolls with sweet chili sauce) 👍   It was packed inside and out - a very happening place on a Sunday evening!

Zoom tonight with 10 siblings missing Sharon and Nancy.   Back to school for the teachers tomorrow!

Sweet memory of Anne and me
WOW....6 years ago today at the Chicago Air Show
