We nomads were busy little beavers today with lots to do before we're "back on the road again"! Up early and got the laundry done with a nice facility here at the park. We organized our stuff transferring from Toad to Daisy and giving inside of Toad a good cleaning and vacuuming.
Then off to downtown where Mark got a haircut and a manicure for me. I did a little retail therapy and then we had a wonderful lunch at 10 South Rooftop Bar and Grill which is on top of a bank building (10th floor) with beautiful views of the city and Mississippi River.
Just across the river is Louisiana.
Mark's lunch
"That Famous" Fried Chicken and Sweet Potato Cornbread Waffle with Maple Chili Glaze
YUMMY!
My chicken sandwich was delicious, too...
View from our table at 10 South Rooftop - the "American Queen" riverboat was in port - travels up and down the Mississippi from New Orleans with stops in Vicksburg, Natchez and Memphis. If you want to take a really long trip (23 days), it will take you all the way to Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Might put this trip on our bucket list (maybe a 9-day excursion to Memphis)?
After lunch we went to the Warren County Courthouse (historic) and toured the museum full
of civil war memorabilia
Old county courthouse - now a museum
State of Mississippi flag
When we were here in 2007, we visited the battlefields of the Civil War and soaked up all that history. Vicksburg is wonderful city full of history, culture, shopping, restaurants, and thee most friendly, polite people. Mark and I both talked about how everyone is "Yes Ma'am", "No Ma'am" or "Yes Sir" "No Sir", and I was "Miss Pat" at the nail salon today. True southern hospitality!
Got the car packed except for a final few things in the morning.....had leftovers for dinner and listened to the rain come pouring down around 5:30 followed by a nice, gentle rain all evening!
We are off early tomorrow heading to McKinney, Texas.
Not going to blog for a few days, so....
till next week!
