Friday – We left
the campground at 8:45 to meet Ryan for coffee/tea at the hotel and get our
passes for the weekend. Back to Daisy –
I am not feeling very good (tired and achy) and maybe some sinus issues going
on?
No sun today and cool……we
got to the practice (Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point) around 1:30 but because
of the very cloudy conditions, the Blues didn’t perform till 4:00. Not many people here today and they did a “low”
show – still good, but can’t do all those high maneuvers!
As we were leaving the
Marine base, Mark said “we are going to get you to a prompt care”! We drove to New Bern as they had one open
till 7:30. Diagnosis is fluid in my
ears, along with sinus and allergy symptoms and sore throat, causing me to feel
“lousy”! Dr. said to take Zyrtec,
Ny-Quil, Claritan, etc. and said it will take 3-5 days to clear up. The nurse cleaned out my ears, too, but they
don’t hurt.
We met Brooke’s parents
(Bob and Judy) her brother Scott, Leigh, Caroline and Cooper) at Carolina Grill
for dinner. They are coming to the show
tomorrow. Good to visit with them, but I didn’t eat
much and soon as we were back on Daisy, went straight to bed!
Saturday –
Another cool, cloudy day – ugh! Slept
good last night and do feel better today.
We have a new great nephew, “Leo Harland” born early this morning to
Nick and Nicole. Leo is the 33rd
great grandchild with 3 more babies coming.
We just lounged around
Daisy till we left for the show (more clouds and cool today). So wearing jeans, fleece, socks, etc., off
we went. Despite the weather, we had
such a fun day with Brooke’s family and our friends, Mark and Barbara West who
came from New Bern. We’ve known them
since the 90’s as dock mates in Racine.
It was their first time to see the Blue Angels as well as Scott, Leigh, and Caroline. Great show and clouds parted just a bit
with a teeny bit of sunshine so another awesome show.

Since Mark and Barbara are more familiar
with the area, they took care of making a reservation in Beaufort for all 10 of
us at Clawson’s – excellent! Lynn, our
waitress was great and we had our own little private area upstairs overlooking
the main level. It was a great ending to a very fun day! I am losing my voice…….

Sunday – Happy May Day! We were up early
(ugh) and my voice is now gone. As we
were driving thru the campground on our way back to the main road, we noticed
lots of tent campers and all spots filled.
Lo and behold, as we rounded the corner, there was Daisy’s twin. Stopped to say ”hello” – young couple from
Raleigh who were on their way to the air show!

We drove to New Bern for 8:00 Mass at St.
Paul (nice church and they had a procession of children each carrying a flower to put in front of Mary). One little girl placed a crown of flowers on her head as May is the "Month of Mary". And then we were “back on the road again”.
Drove thru some towns with interesting names – Chocowinity and Ahoskie,
NC and Ordinary, VA with probably many more, but I slept for much of the
trip. The doctor said the Zyrtec would make me
sleepy and that was an understatement!!!
We took the lesser-traveled roads to avoid the interstate. Rained for a big part of the trip and cool
again today! A very “quiet” drive for
Mark with me occasionally “whispering” or “squeaking”! It was a long day of travel with heavy
traffic at times and lousy weather. What should've taken 6.5 hours, took 8 hours!
We arrived at Adventure
Bound in Lothian, MD around 5:00. It is
55 degrees and drizzling. We have happy memories of this place (formerly
Duncan Family Campground) where we stayed in July, 2012 with Drew, Davis and
Brady when we did all the DC sites.
Tomorrow, we will drive to
Herrington Harbor and check on Catrina……more on that later….
