July 7, 2009....we were in Denali National Park, Alaska when my Dad called around 9 AM to tell us Mom had passed away. Oh my....so vivid 8 years later and still miss her so much.
I'm sad that she never got to meet Luke, Blair and Maeve.
How she would've loved these little ones!
We left Annapolis at 9:10 in calm conditions. The forecast was for 12 mph winds out of the southeast We had some gentle swells (2') but Catrina handled it well.
We covered 80 miles today and arrived at 2:20 - what a ride!
As the day wore on, though, a different story as the winds shifted to the west and new forecast was for 15-25 mph. WHAT THE HECK? I just know Mom was watching us and shaking her head as to what we were doing out there....she was NOT a water person!
When we turned into the Potomac, we were driving into 4' seas and got lots of splashing - never before had either of us gotten so wet! It was crazy!
We made it safe 'n sound to the Coan River Marina in Lottsburg, VA (middle of nowhere with the town actually 3 miles away). But it's a nice little marina, friendly dockmaster and CALM. As we look out on the Potomac....what a difference from a few hours ago as now the winds have dropped to 4 mph.
Have a great weekend!
