Sunday - July 9

Another great day for cruising.   We left Occoquan Bay at 7:45 with clear blue skies and such an awesome trip passing by Mount Vernon, Old Alexandria, Arlington, Reagan National Airport (as the jets flew over us), the Capitol, Washington Monument and finally entered the Anacostia River.   Terraphobic was waiting for Catrina and her home at The Yards for the next month.    Ryan has been at Lake James this weekend and left around noonish with 7-8 hours ahead of him!

Sure a much more pleasant trip for Mark than in January when he and Ryan came from Norfolk in 19 degree temps, dodging ice on the Potomac, etc.

We settled in and then off to noon Mass at St. Vincent de Paul across the street from the Nationals ball park.     The Sunday noon Mass is for the "Nats" and lasted 45 minutes with Father praying for a win (they lost yesterday but are in 1st place).   They play the Braves and Father said "although a win is what we want, it's all about going out and enjoying the game!"    Mark and I did not get the memo about dress code as 95% of the congregation were wearing red or some sort of Nationals clothing.   The Knights of Columbus were serving hot dogs and water after Mass and then as we walked back to Catrina, the throngs were headed to the ballpark.

We stopped at Philz, a neat coffee shop with locations in San Francisco, Los Angeles and DC.   Had iced coffees and pastries.    Back to Catrina, changed clothes and gave her a good scrubbing!

After cooling down and occasionally hearing the loud cheers from the ballpark (the Nats won 10-5) we took off for a long walk - so much to see here in this area called The Yards.

We walked thru a huge Harris Teeter grocery store just 2 blocks from the boat and whoa...it has anything and everything!    Stopped at Jubilee Ice Cream for treats - huge line and so many coming from the ballgame.    The unique thing about this place is their unusual flavors...."gin and tonic", "basil goat cheese", Thai iced tea", "coffee and doughnuts", "honey, lemon and lavender".    Mark had "chocolate chocolate" (I told him this was boring, but he's a chocolate fanatic....it was ok, said he's had better.)   I had the" banana, bourbon, caramel"!   Good!

Ryan arrived around 8:30 - long drive, but we enjoyed sitting on Catrina's bridge and catching up with our boy!!!    Even had some fireworks and this awesome moon!

Life is good in our nation's capital
