Friday - August 13

No rain when we woke up as was the prediction - fine with us!    Mark (nice guy that he is) walked to A Taste by the Lake and brought me back a latte.   We had pancakes and sausage and really hit the spot!

A nice leisurely morning since we don't have far to go and can't check in at Middle Bass till after 11.

Bye bye Kelley's!   Really enjoyed our stay

It was a 45-miniute ride from Kelleys to Middle Bass.

This bright yellow-roofed condo complex is at entrance to state park and a landmark you
 can see from far away

We remember from being here June 23 how quiet this marina was but today there are way more boats.    We walked to J. F. Walleyes for lunch.    They are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays so didn't get to eat there last visit.   We heard so many good reviews besides Trip Advisor so that was definitely on our list.    Sat out on the patio by the pool - what a pretty area with lots of flowers and the waterfall which our kiddos would've loved.    Lunch was very good (chicken salad on a croissant for Mark and bourbon, bacon burger for me).    J. F. Walleyes had the sign on their door apologizing for lack of staff and slower service.

Pretty backyard at J. F. Walleyes

As we were walking back to the boat, we saw a sign for "coffee" and arrow pointing where to go

When we were here last time we took the ferry to Put-In-Bay and passed by this newer building near the Lontz Winery museum.    Well, 3 weeks ago the Island Grind opened up....what a neat place with lots of desserts and some muffins.    I got an iced latte to go and back to the boat telling Mark all about it and maybe? we could check out those desserts later???

Mark described today's weather as "stifling" and I totally agree....no wind, sunny, HOT and HUMID!   We are staying indoors with good books.

Meant to include this luxuty B and B in yesterday's blog

Water's Edge Retreat - Kelleys Island

It's just unbelievable day after day all the new cases of Covid (vaccinated and unvaccinated family and friends) we are hearing about!    And then all the other health issues (cancer, heart, surgery recoveries,  etc.) and so many to pray for.

Around 5:15 Mark suggested we go for a walk - wanted to check out the beach.    A storm is brewing but he thought we were good to go.    Got to the beach which wasn't much of a beach but still a beach with picnic tables, BBQ, etc.    As we were walking away, the sky got so strange looking.   We hustled on back to Catrina and whoaaa...wish I had gotten a picture of what looked like a possible funnel cloud?     We were too busy securing the bimini canvas to prevent further tearing.   .....the winds picked up like crazy, temperature dropped and everyone was frantically battening down their hatches.    Mark put out another line and we waited....

Scary sky

We got some heavy rain but nothing like we thought we would get (radar was yellow and red).   After the rain, all the folks were back out and about.   We went for a walk - air felt good and we still got a few sprinkles from remaining rain cloud above.    Decided instead of the desserts at Island Grind, we would enjoy some of our Ben and Jerry's "American Dream" - vanilla ice cream with fudge, pieces of waffle cone and caramel swirl topped off with some delicious peaches we got at Bassetts.   Yummy........

We had wanted to stay here 2 nights but bunch of boats are coming for the weekend so have to move on tomorrow.    Next plan was to check out marinas just into Michigan, but both are full for the weekend.    So Plan C will be to go back to Port Clinton (15 miles), do church, stay overnight and leave again on Sunday.

The big rendezvous of boats coming this weekend were still arriving at 8:30.   They are from the All Ports Yacht Club near Cedar Point.    Having fun on the docks reminds us of all the years our Mid Illini Power Squadron had a yearly Cruise & Rendezvous each summer.    Great memories with great friends.
