Monday - August 16

Decision time this morning as to whether we take off or stay at Toledo Beach another day???   We knew it might be a little bumpy but only had 20 miles on the lake, so.....let's do it!    Had some swells and what was supposed to be 1-3 footers, were sometimes 2-4' - ugh!    We drove from down below as there was occasional drizzle.   Not a real pleasant ride, but doable and happy to be off the lake and onto the Detroit River for 4 miles to our marina (Water's Edge Municipal) at Grosse Ile ("gross eel").    It was raining when we arrived but 2 nice guys came and took our lines and we soon settled in this small marina with a golf course and they recommended the "great" restaurant nearby.    Shortly after, another guy drove up in his truck welcoming us to Grosse Ile and mentioned the hardware and grocery stores nearby.    Mark recorded his stats for the day, we had lunch onboard, checked in with a nice, friendly lady at the office  and then took off on a little jaunt to town.    We walked along a paved road between 2 golf courses (the Gross Ile Country Club to our left and the Water's Edge Country Club on our right.)   Several golfers out today even in the rain.

Grosse Ile is an island south of Detroit with approximately 10,000 residents and listed as an affluent township.   The island is approxinately 1 mile wide by 10 miles long.    We walked a very humid 1-mile to Macomb Street, the main drag....nice Kroger store with a Starbucks connected.     We had 2 packages to mail so got those sent off, at the nearby post office, picked up a few groceries and some icy drinks and started the trek back.    That's when the rain started but I had an umbrella and Mark, his hooded rain jacket, so....and it was just a nice steady rain - no gully washer.

Drizzle/mist most of the afternoon.    When we checked in at the office, the lady told us the restaurant (yes, it's very good) is closed on Mondays (just can't get the help) - "Smokies".....maybe on our return trip?

Mark worked on logistics for our next stop tomorrow -we had wanted to stay in downtown Detroit cause we heard about the nice, safe marina; however, they cannot accommodate our width (beam of 17').    So...my Captain is checking other options.

We had leftovers from Scarpetta's (Saturday night) and the chicken parm was just as good 2nd time around.   Made a salad to go with it.     Afterwards we went for a walk (sun came out and so pleasant).    We walked the 4 docks and got in our steps.

Liam and Connor off to a golf match with their CCHS team in Peoria    The boys had the best score for CCHS with Connor (80) and Liam (81).    Their team came in midway for the tournament (12 teams.)
