Thursday - June 9

We and Ryan experienced our first military funeral today – a very fitting, emotional, beautiful tribute to Jeff     As we came across the bridge on our way to the base, every light pole was decked out with either the American or Navy flag along with either a  Marine or Navy wreath.   15 minutes before the service started, many pics of Jeff were shown, along with his family, career as a marine and a Blue Angel on a big screen o neat music..    The chapel was packed with military, The Air Force Thunderbirds, the Canadian Showbirds, present and past Blue Angels, family and friends.    There was also a large tent with chairs set up outside for the overflow crowd.
Along with 2 chaplains speaking, there were 4 eulogies (#2 Matt, #8 and events coordinator, Corrie, Jeff’s commanding officer and #1 Boss Ryan) – all very touching and personal.   The real heart wrenching moment came at the end when Executive Officer, Bob Flynn read roll call starting with #1 and each pilot responding “Present” after hearing their name and position.    And then “#6, Captain Jeff Kuss”  and repeated 2 more times.    Total silence as tears fell throughout the chapel.    What an incredibly sobering moment
Outside, there was a 21-gun salute followed by taps and exactly at noon, a flyover.    It was a beautiful sunny, warm day and the large crowd gathered outside with many more hugs, handshakes and visiting.    We were then shuttled with police escort to the Officers Club for a reception and more visiting.    We said our good byes, big hugs for Ryan and around 1:30, started the long trek to Atlanta. for our flight to Durango, CO (via Albuquerque) and Saturday's funeral.
I’ve cried a ton of tears this past week, but so very thankful to spend this time with Ryan.   Praying he gets some much-needed rest as he continues on with all the decisions to be made with the Blue Angels while mourning his “brother” Jeff….
Tonight there is a candlelight vigil honoring #6 in downtown Pensacola – expecting large crowds and will be providing candles and American flags.    We’ll be there in spirit!
Thank you again all your love, prayers and support.....especially for Jeff, Ryan and
 their Blue Angel family.
