We left Homer Spit in the rain this morning. This area has the second highest tidal range in the United States which can be up to 28'. The height of the poles gives you an idea of just what 28' is. This picture is at low tide.

Alaskans really like their espresso and there are many tiny little buildings which offer all the good coffee drinks, smoothies, etc. Here are a few we saw today...

And to go along with all that coffee, another big thing up here is cinnamon rolls which are the specialty at cafes, bakeries, etc. Everyone advertises that their cinnamon rolls are "THEE BEST"!!!

We arrived in Cooper Landing late this morning and just back from a delicious dinner (bison chili for Mark and salmon chowder for me) + salmon sliders at the Kenai Princess Lodge near our RV Park. We have a beautiful view of Mount Cecil overlooking the Kenai River.

July 20

This morning we drove to Homer (4.5 miles from Homer Spit) and checked out the town. Mama Moose and Baby were grazing along the roadside At 11:00, we boarded " The Discovery" for a wildlife tour on Kachemak Bay and onto Seldovia.Just a few of the many, many birds on Gull Island

Arrived in Seldovia (little village of 286) and had a delicious lunch at The Mad Fish
Every Memorial Day, the residents of Seldovia have a carving contest with chain saws and this was one of many creations around the town!

July 19

Rainy Sunday with temps in the 50's. We left Anchorage at 8:30 and arrived in Homer at 1:30 with a stop in Sterling for lunch at the Moose River Cafe. This Eisenhower Statehood Monument (taken yesterday) was a tribute to Alaska becoming a state 50 years ago (January 3, 1959)

We are camped out at this campground - Homer is the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the World". Homer Spit is a piece of land 4.5 miles long jutting out into Kachemak Bay and located on the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula. Lots of charter fishing, shops and restaurants. The harbor at Homer Spit

July 18

We arrived in Anchorage late last night after 10 days in IL for my Mom's funeral. Was really hard to say good-bye to Dad, but have the comfort that my brothers and sisters-in-law are close by along with his wonderful "family" at Stonecroft. Today is our daughter-in-law, Brooke's birthday.Happy Birthday, Brooke

More blossoms We walked around the Anchorage Market & Festival which is held every Saturday/Sunday - many vendors selling their wares - warm, soft ear muffs at this booth

And some furry slippers. There were lots of food booths, too, selling everything from reindeer hot dogs to salmon quesadillas to moose/elk burgers. Downtown Anchorage is full of touristy shops and restaurants. We shopped for groceries at Fred Meyer and went to 5:30 Mass at Holy Family Cathedral.

July 14

Happy Birthday, Connor! Our youngest grandson is "3" today!!!! Sweet Connor

Mark and I spent the morning with his parents and had a nice family dinner at my brother, Ron's home! Dad enjoyed getting out and about on a beautiful day/evening!
