Happy Canada Day! We left Skagway this morning and about 10 miles into our trip, hit heavy, thick, pea-soup fog! Yuck!!! Scary driving high up in the mountains, so we pulled off for about 30 minutes and then continued on (still foggy), but after about 10 miles, we were in the clear! Traveled along the South Klondike and it was another pretty day of breathtaking scenery. We are in Whitehorse which is in the Yukon Territory of Canada. Sunshine and upper 60's
Drove past several lakes and here's just one Kodak moment for the day Went to the Visitor's Center in Whitehorse and they offered us mini chocolate cupcakes with white frosting and red sprinkles in honor of "Canada Day". We then watched a 15-minute movie on the Yukon Territory - very intersting!
This DC-3 plane (Canadian Pacific Airlines) is the world's largest weathervane (actually works) and is at the Whitehorse Airport!Miles Canyon is just a few miles from our RV park - very scenic spot!
We walked across the Robert Lowe Suspension Bridge at Miles Canyon
The Yukon River (taken from the bridge) where the stampeders tried reaching the Klondike gold fields in 1897 and 1898
Love that teal-colored water. Miles Canyon was a highlight of the day!
From all the pictures we've taken since we started this trip (western USA, Canada, Alaska) you've seen lots of trees, but these pictures can't really capture the gazillions of trees that are everywhere...........so many kinds, so many shades of green! Truly mind boggling!
As I write this, it is almost 9:30 PM and the sun is still high in the sky - we are down to about 3 hours of darkness now! New experience for we nomads!
