Friday - June 8

A beautiful day in upstate New York.    We walked to the office of Lock 24 where Catrina has been tied up for past 2 nights.    Mark wanted to chat with the lockmaster and get a little more info on just how these locks work.    We had a really nice guy explain in detail that gravity and not pumps are involved in moving the water.    He was very interesting....then some boats were coming thru, so we said our good byes and thanked him for spending time with us.

After going thru 150+ locks thru our boating years, got some answers to questions today

Got Catrina ready to cruise again and on our way - so pleasant out on the water and very little traffic.    We only went 16 miles and tied up to a wall here at Devaney's Riverside Grill.    We had lunch - excellent burger (Mark) and chipotle chicken quesadillas for me.

Pretty deep pink peonies on our table overlooking the Seneca River and a delicious fresh strawberry margarita - life is good!

We were on the Seneca River and about1 mile across Cross Lake then back to the river.

Cows grazing near the water and many many homes from small cottages to beautiful $$$ ones.   Surprised that many have swimming pools this far north with the short season?

Forgot to share this little ditty yesterday.....I was finishing my tea after breakfast and reading at the Canal Walk Café after Mark left to go back to the boat.    I left and went next door to The 2 Twisted Sisters and when I came out, realized I did not have my sunglasses (sun was coming out).   I went back to the Café and asked the waitress if she had found them.   She smiled and said "come with me".    Towards the back of the restaurant there was a large Hoosier cabinet (everything on the walls was for sale) and across 2 of the cabinet doors, a little clothes line was strung with tiny clothes pins.    Several things
(items left behind) were attached including this....

This brown lunch bag held my sunglasses and was hanging on the clothes line.    The folks in B'ville were so friendly and we were always asked where we were from (new faces in town).    She figured I would be back so took care of it this way!!!

So very sorry to hear the news about Charles Krauthammer and his failing health.    What an intelligent and patriotic man.   Mark and I remember being on the same plane with him from Reagan Airport in DC to O'Hare.      God bless him...

Mark has been so busy with his boat jobs and so proud of the newest finished project - installing this folding table!    Love it and great addition to Catrina.
