Thursday - March 10

What a way to start the day.....many texts and e-mails were coming in this morning before 5 am.    During the night, Grandma fell while on her way to the bathroom.   A nurse found her and called the 3 girls.    She was taken to the ER and has broken elbow and large goose bump on her forehead.   They put a splint on her elbow and she is back in her room at Heritage Square.    Wow..... unbelievable and so very sorry that this happened!

Michael and Philip met at O'Hare this morning (Michael's fight was 1 hr.. 15 min late leaving NY) so they were rushed, but drove to Dixon and had a 30-minute visit with Grandma who was alert and sitting in her chair.

Since we were up early (bodies are still on central or eastern time???)    We went to the Broken Yolk for breakfast recommended by Ryan.    Very good.......

Tiki Toast....Hawaiian bread French toast with fresh blueberries/strawberries and a caramel glaze

We drove around the town and picked up a few things at Von's grocery store....back to the base but
so very desolate out here!   It is a beautiful hot sunny day!

When we got back to our house, we went for a long walk on base - not much happening today, but Saturday this place will be crazy!    Saw them deliver many trucks full of porta potties

The flag on base is at half staff in honor of Nancy Reagan

We drove down the dirt road to the hay bales (this is BIG agricultural community) - hay bales are everywhere, including at the end of the runway.   That's where we and many others watched the show right at end of the runway.    Shows a whole different perspective of how these pilots carry out their maneuvers..    Awesome watching #5 and the team "do their thing".

On top of the hay bales - what a view!

Stopped for ice teas at "Take Five" café and then home for some much needed showers after
all the dust and dirt

With all the dry, barren lack of color here in the desert (but deep blue skies and lots of palm trees), these pretty crepe myrtle (I think) were so pleasing to the eye!

We drove 22 miles to Brawley, CA for a big ribfest that Randy and Lupe Armstrong put on (their 25th annual) for the Blue Angels (family and friends).    Along with Randy and his son,  Ryan and #6 , Jeff were barbequing ribs in the driveway over 2 large grills.    They had a wonderful assortment of hors d'oeuvres and beverages in the backyard which was huge with a pool and several round tables with white linen cloths and big pots of red geraniums for centerpieces.    Tiny white lights twinkled in the trees and it was a perfect evening with a star-studded sky.

The ribs and all the sides and desserts were outstanding!    It was so much fun seeing the spouses, moms and dads and meeting the new Blues and their family members.

It's been a very big day and with all the excitement of Grandma, the air show, all the heat (got to 91 today) we are oh so ready for bedtime!
