Sunday - January 9

Nine years ago today, Mark's Dad (and the Patriarch of the Chamberlain clan) passed away.    We were in Marathon at the time - January 9, 2013 when news of his sudden, unexpected death came.    And here we are in 2022 with Jim and Lydia back in Marathon.    Miss you Dad but cherishing our memories, as your legacy lives on.

Mark and I went to Mass with Father McDonald in Boston online this morning.    Then we loaded up the car, picked up Jim and Lydia at 10 and away we went to Marathon.     They were here last year in January, but it's been 4 years for Mark and me.    Looking forward to seeing what's new, changed, and enjoy our favorites.

It's a 4-hour trip from Fort Myers to Marathon without stops.    We had breakfast/lunch at "Harriette's" in Key Largo.    Good food in this tiny little spot along the Overseas Highway that was #1 with Trip Advisor offering a huge menu selection.    The guys had breakfast and Lydia and I did lunch.    Harriette's is all about "MUFFINS" and they are currently offering 23 different varieties daily with a goal of coming up with 50 eventually - a challenge coming up with new flavors for sure!    They sell 2500 muffins a week!!!   Unreal...

Muffins-to-go

White chocolate raspberry, key line/chocolate

Our first stop in Marathon was at San Pablo Church which is where we attended Sunday mass back in the day.    We wanted to show Jim and Lydia the outdoor Christmas decor as it's quite decked out with the Mysteries of the Rosary, the 4 Evangelists and the Stations of the Cross.

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John

and this sweet memory

How neat if Luke had been with us today 7 years and 1 day...

Then to Tranquility Bay Resort, our home for the next 4 nights.....we checked in, unpacked and later, Mark and I went for a walk.    This is such a large and beautiful resort.   My brothers and wives stayed here back in 2013-14.    We had never really walked around the grounds so checked it out late this afternoon.

We went to Lazy Days for appetizers and soup - too much good eating today and only day #1, but.....we're on vacation, so.....ha!!!

Good eats at Lazy Days

Back to our place for family zoom with Marilyn, Janet and Nancy missing.   Lots more Covid talk. and then we 4 played 2 games of euchre with Mark and Lydia winning both against Jim and I.

The Campbell brothers waiting to get back on the ice!    But what a great afternoon  for them.
Liam scored 4 goals and had 1 assist and Connor scored a goal!
Way to go, guys!

Have a safe 'n healthy 'n happy week!
