Monday - June 13

Beautiful Monday....I made ham/cheese omelets, fruit and toast and then we were off on our bikes - rode on a packed-down gravel trail and passed the former Heinz Ketchup manufacturing plant which is huge and we remember the strong smell of tomatoes in this "tomato capital of Canada" back in 2008.    The Heinz plant left Leamington in 2014 (much to the Canadians dismay) and currently, the majority of the ketchup is made in Fremont, OH (this was a shock as it's so close to Port Clinton) and also Muscatine, Iowa.    In 2021, production once again started in Canada (Montreal).

The Highbury Canco plant is now where Heinz had been located and they are in the food and beverage manufacturing industry.

We continued riding on sidewalks and finally back on the boardwalk.    Locked up the bikes and sat under the beautiful pergola with all the hanging baskets of gorgeous flowers (marina) and drank some water before we took off on foot.

Back to Catrina for a little rest.  Along the way we spotted today's awesome catch of walleye - the fishing has been great up here and the fishermen are getting their quota each day!

Someone will be eating good tonight and plenty for the freezer!

At 2:30 took off on the bikes and trail for Chuck's Roadhouse for lunch.     A couple on our dock yesterday (from Port Clinton) suggested this place.    We sat outside on this lovely day and enjoyed our lunch (chicken tenders and Caesar salad for me; chicken parmesan for Mark).

When we got back to Catrina, there were 3 women and 2 men (Custom officials in their uniforms with guns, etc.) standing in front of Catrina.    They were very friendly and just making sure we had cleared customs as they didn't show on their records that we came into Leamington.....no, we cleared on Pelee Island.    They were curious about our travels and then were on their way.    They had seen our paper work which must be displayed in window, but just being extra cautious!

We talked to one of the guys about the huge cruise ship we saw off in the distance.    Mark had read about a cruise ship going to various ports all around the Great Lakes and sure enough - the Viking was cruising past Leamington.    We checked the ship and amenities and cost online....whoaaaa....this would be a really neat cruise, but $$$$.

After playing 18 holes of golf, the "4" boys left for Starved Rock and had a ball - walked 7 miles and Gibson and Frankie loved the canyons, waterfalls, walking along the river, etc.

The boys + Frankie (Gibson is in back) off to Starved Rock today!

Tomorrow we are heading to Colchester about 20 miles west.
