Happy Birthday, Daisy
Eight years ago today we picked up Miss Daisy in Montclair, California - what fun times we've had and memories made these past 8 years. She has 51,370 miles
Rained during the night and off and on as we drove thru TN and then KY today - also had fog and the combination was not fun driving in. Just a dreary, damp day. Fall colors were really pretty in KY, but wish the sun had been shining.
We drove thru downtown Lexington (1st time) and Richmond Road was full of lovely, older homes. We really didn't see anything special worth stopping for and always a challenge to park Daisy, especially in a busy large downtown area. So, we drove out of town and ended up in Midway, KY and what a charming little berg with railroad tracks running right thru the middle of the main drag with shops on both sides (clothing and gift boutiques, along with art and antique shops. ) We had a delicious lunch at Darlin' Jean's.
So we've been meandering thru and around the hills of Kentucky - taking in the rural scene and it's been quite interesting? We drove thru Madison, IN and would've loved to stop here - the downtown was full of shops, cute fall décor, quaint coffee shop, etc., but it was raining and cold, so not a good day to check out the shops! It is located on the Ohio River and after visiting Madison, Charles Kuralt called Madison, the "Princess of River Towns" and "unquestionably, it is the most beautiful river town in America". And from what we saw, I would sure agree.
We arrived at the Brown County State Park (largest in Indiana) around 5:15 - long day of travel and still raining. From the time we entered the park till we got to the campground, it was 4 miles of beautiful scenery! Brown County is known as a great tourist spot especially in the fall. We are close to Nashville and will check it out tomorrow - supposed to be a nice day!
Ryan will be flying the #6 jet next year (opposing solo). We're hoping to attend several air shows around the country in 2015. Here's the complete schedule - maybe we'll see you
somewhere, sometime?
