Monday - June 18

We were off at 7:25 this morning - rain and stronger winds were in the forecast, so....

Bye bye Allan Tremen Marina State Park

Nice cruising up Lake Cayuga, onto the Cayuga/Seneca Canal and then back on the Erie Canal, going 62 miles and thru 3 locks.  Vic and Bette on "Felix" from Michigan were in the lock with us and then we parted ways as they were headed to Baldwinsville.   It was hot in the locks but other than a 15 minute wait for a barge, we went thru pretty quickly.    We crossed under several bridges including many old railroad ones that are no longer in use.

Arrived in Lyons, NY at noonish and tied up along the wall - another free night.    Walked to the fire station where we checked in and they directed us to Mac's Philly Steaks Diner for lunch.    The temperature outside the fire station said 97.5 and it was a beastly walk to the diner, but lunch was yummy and felt so good to be in out of the heat

Back to Catrina and around 3, the heavens opened up.    It stopped  at 4:30, temperature dropped, and the sun came out,.    We went for a walk to Tops Grocery across the bridge.    And it was really steamy.    By the time we got back to Catrina, whoaaa….so sultry.    We talked to our neighbors, Bill and Mary from Rhode Island on "Harbor Reach" who we first saw in Brewerton.

We were met by a welcoming committee of Les, Sandy, Paul and ? (another lady)….how nice of them to stop by and welcome all the boaters.    Mark had read somewhere that this is a common thing along the Erie Canal - our first experience.

Although Lyons' downtown is really hurting with not many businesses still up and operating, this is home of the Peppermint Festival and quite a big event in July.    They even have a peppermint museum (closed today)     During early canal days, Lyons was a major exporter of peppermint.

Played some games - cards and dice with Mark winning at cards and me at dice.   Light supper and tomorrow a short little jaunt to Newark.
