Sunday - June 3

Cloudy and cool!    We enjoyed a day of "Pray 'n Play".   Left Catrina at 7:40 enroute to Watertown, NY where we had treats at Tim Horton's and I had a latte at Starbucks next door.   (Tim's latte machine was out of order)!    Then onto 10:30 Mass at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.   We drove to the Riverwalk and walked thru Whitewater Park where the walk ended.

The Black River in Whitewater Park popular for tubing and rafting

Along our drive from Brewerton today on I-81, we saw many "text stops".     They have about a 1/4 mile straight stretch of road (frontage) where you can pull off to text.
These stops are about every 5 miles!!!

Some interesting tidbits about Watertown...

It is 20 miles south of the Thousand Islands and has a population of around 27,000..    It was named after the many falls located on the Black River and was a manufacturing center in the early 19th century.   In the early 20th century, the city was said to have more millionaires per capita than any other city in the nation.

Watertown claims to be the birthplace of the five and dime store and the safety pin and home of Little Trees air fresheners.   It manufactured the first portable steam engine and has the longest continually operating county fair in the USA.

While Mark wandered around West Marine, I shopped for a few items at Hannaford's grocery store and then we were off to Alexandria Bay.

Coning into town
1000 Salad Dressing originated here!

Along the way I read the blog from August, 2011 when we were in the Thousand Islands on Catrina.    Alexandria Bay is a quaint little town that has a ferry taking you to the islands which we did 7 years ago and toured the beautiful Boldt Castle.   It was nice to come here by land.  After parking the big red truck, we ate at Riley's by the River (St. Lawrence) and Trip Advisor's 3rd best.     Good lunch and Bloody Mary.   We were just 1/2 mile from Canada.

Started raining, so went to the truck, got an umbrella and I hit some shops while Mark got some ice cream and found a marine store.    There are a lot of touristy T-shirt/souvenir shops but also some nice clothing and gift stores.    I did a bit of damage including buying 3 Christmas gifts.

The rain picked up big time coming back and looks like it will continue for the next 24 hours and then some!!!

June 1, 2006, Mark retired.    We sure have enjoyed some memorable adventures these past 12 years, but my oh my, how time flies!!!
