Sunday - June 11

We walked (1 mile) to Immaculate Conception this morning!

WOW.....what a joyous celebration today as we celebrated the feast of Corpus Christi.   The 10:30 mass with Father Jonathan was extra special with wonderful music, Knights of Columbus and 4th Degree, 13 altar servers (boys and girls from 8-teens), incense and excellent organist/soloist.    With a police escort, after Mass, Father carried the Blessed Sacrament under a canopy held by the knights.   The congregation processed and sang "Oh Sacrament Most Holy" around the entire block beside church (former site of old Port Clinton high school).  They had a bunch of chairs set up outside for those parishioners who wanted to watch the procession but not able to walk.   Two small boys wearing suits walked in the procession carrying baskets and dropped rose petals along the route. It was very moving and a tradition that is popular in Europe but not so much in the US.    Father in his 37 years as a priest had never participated in this type of event till today....it was emotional and beautiful!!!   Definitely a new experience for Mark and me.

Procession underway
1/2 way around the block, Father stopped to say the Our Father, Hail Mary
and Glory Be along with incense
Returning to the procession.

Afterwards we were invited to a reception in the school gym - what a spread of ham, egg and tuna salad + various deli sandwiches, salads, chips, chocolate-covered strawberries, all kinds of cookies, eclairs, cream puffs, etc.   Excellent!

Walked back home, said good bye to Bob and Donna till next weekend and then hunkered down in Catrina waiting for the rain which started around 4:30.

We had wanted to take a little trip to Kelley's Island this week, but the weather does not sound good for boating or biking - windy, chilly and rainy!!!    No thank you!

Our niece Lisa and hubby John are expecting a baby in December (Lisa is Mark's sister Joan and Joe's daughter).    They also have 2-year old Landon!!!    Congratulations!

Zoom tonight with all siblings present....Mike, Theresa and Karen are at the Creek in Spencer, IN (a favorite vacation spot) but so sad to see all the damage from a tornado that went thru there a few weeks ago.    Janet and Mike will celebrate their 40th anniversary on Father's Day.    Doris hopes Rich will be getting out of the hospital on Tuesday.   Also discussed other health issues, vacations, weather, Corpus Christi celebrations, etc.

Have a good week!
