Happy Friday! We got an early start today taking the dinghy to shore at 7 AM and then walking to Grump's Café for delicious breakfast and back again thru the woods (3.25 miles round trip). We left our anchorage at Harness Creek by 9:15.
We cruised 58 miles to Havre de Grace, a town of 13,000+ near the north end of Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Susquehanna River. We are only 12 miles from Pennsylvania and can see the pretty mountains in the distance. This town was founded in 1785 and named after a city in France "Le Havre" which means "Haven of Grace". It has many lovely old homes, much history to check out and some nice shops. We stopped at the Concord Coffee Company for iced coffees (HOT today) and then found the Bomboy Homemade Ice Cream shop for nice cool treats this afternoon.
Tonight from 5-9 is First Friday in Havre de Grace when they close streets and the food vendors (restaurants) set up their grills, entertainment starts and the partying goes on....so they say!
On this very warm and humid, not a leaf was stirring evening, we left the boat at 7 and walked downtown - it was a happening place with lots of people on the streets eating and drinking, all kinds of music playing and vendors selling their crafts and other wares. The restaurants inside were all very busy, too, with long waits, so we came back to the cool confines of Catrina and had some
snacks and wine.
This city was named by Smithsonian Magazine as one of the top 20 small towns to visit in 2014.
So, tomorrow we shall check it out....
Have a great weekend!
