Good Saturday morning from
the Raab Road Laundromat where I’m sitting here doing 5 loads of laundry and
starting to update this blog. Mark and
Brady are on their way to O’Hare for flight back to North Carolina. We have so many happy memories of our time
with Brady, Liam and Connor this past week!
Here’s an update starting when we went to Chicago on Wednesday.
Wednesday…Boarded
the train at 7:40 and after a good 2.5 hour trip, our first stop was the Willis
Tower….WOW….blown away by the spectacular views on this very clear day! The boys were certainly in awe from the north, south, east and west! Next stop was taking the water taxi to Navy
Pier. Fun cruising down the Chicago
River and then lunch at Bubba Gump’s followed by a few hours at the Children’s Museum
– boys especially loved building their skyscraper and the “Tinkering” area
where they could saw, hammer, drill to their heart’s delight.
Off to DuSable Marina to
see all the boats and then to the new Maggie Daley Park which is phenomenal and
the boys loved the slides, mini golf and so much more! What a wonderful addition right beside the
already popular and favorite Millennium Park which was our next stop and
pictures at the Bean. And then it was
time to trek on to the train station.
These guys were troopers all day long – my FitBit said we walked 18, 862
steps! Yeah!!! Picked up snacks at the train station, boys
and Grandpa slept for part of the trip and we were finally back on Daisy at
10:15.
Waiting for the train...
The boys and Grandpa built this in 12 minutes - their "Willis Tower"
At the "Tinkering" area turning them loose...
They loved this!
Here we are in front of "Phenix", the sailboat that our friends, Kevin and Dawn have invited us on next Friday, the 14th to watch the Blue Angels. We'll be anchored off Navy Pier.
Thursday…Up
and going by 8:30 to take the boys to Liam and Connor’s for the day with their
summer companion, Colleen in charge of the 3 Munchkins. We bought Cinnabons at the train station
last night so that was their treat for breakfast! Mark and I went to the first funeral at 10:00…..beautiful
service for Art, my friend, Martha’s 95-year old father. Mark ran some errands and I had lunch with
Exchange Club. Then to Margie’s
funeral – huge crowd and very touching
and heartbreaking to see her family – Margie was only 72….and what a great
tribute to her life. Afterwards we all
went to Bloomington Country Club for drinks, dinner and dancing….exactly what
Margie would’ve wanted as we celebrated her life! Picked up the boys and left Anne and
Patrick’s after Connor’s baseball practice (8:00)
Friday…We
slept in and then to the Carlock Family Restaurant for breakfast and
afterwards, checked out the Mercantile Mart in Congerville (close by Kamp
Komfort and a nice store but a bit too much fou fou for the boys), along with a restaurant.
Back to the campground and
a great day for swimming which they enjoyed off and on all day. We went to the Busy Corner for supper and
of course, PIE….saw 2 friends there and just missed another one…..what are the
odds of running into 3 long-time friends at the Busy Corner on a Friday
night? Back to Daisy, packed up Liam
and Connor’s clothes and things and off to Bloomington. Sad for the boys to say good-bye….not sure when
they will be together again and we won’t see Brady till Thanksgiving!
Outside Busy Corner
Saturday…After
the laundry was washed, dried and folded, I headed to Topline Nails for a
manicure. I was then off to HyVee for a few
groceries. Stopped at Anne and Patrick’s
and saw Patrick and Liam. They are
leaving Monday morning for 4 days in the Wisconsin Dells on their RV. I had a nice visit with Donna Rae in the
afternoon and then to 4:30 Mass and finally back to Daisy around 6. Big day, but accomplished a bunch. Mark and Brady arrived safely in NC and I
talked to Blair tonight – she was excited when she saw her “Papa”, but asked
about “MeeMaw”…..such a sweetie!!! So,
finally caught up and going to say Nighty Night from Kamp Komfort!
Liam mowing the grass for the first time today. These boys are growing up waaaay to
fast for this Grandma!
