Halloween - 2015

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

An eerie night out there for all the little ghosts, goblins and other scary critters!!!

We are settled at the Indian Springs Campground in North, Bend, OH after an afternoon of driving in rain, wind and chilly temps.

Got Daisy ready for the long trip this morning, hooked up to Toad and off we went to town.

Bye bye Kamp Komfort - thanks for a great summer and fall

There was a special dedication for our friend, Ed Alsene at the IL Wesleyan Shirk Athletic Center late this morning,   Lots of family and friends there....very nice.   His name will be on the door of the "Sports Information Director" office - he had that position from 1965-1988.

Our very dear, long-time friends, Ed and Donna Rae
Congratulations Ed!

It was around 11:45 when we were "back on the road again".....

Tonight we went to 7:30 Mass at St. Simon the Apostle in Cincinnati (11 miles away).   A sparse crowd - most were probably home with the trick or treaters.

Connor (Smiley Face) and Liam (Miscellaneous Man - variety of a wizard, a police officer, a Blackhawk and a street drummer)!

It was hot in FL tonight, so Luke wanted to part of his heavy Tigger outfit -
his nice cool jammies did the trick!

Waiting patiently for the trick or treaters to come
"Truck or Treat"

So we moved the clocks ahead when we entered the eastern time zone and now get to set them back with the time change!    Bye bye October!

Friday - October 30

Foggy this morning when I left the campground, but cleared off fairly quickly.    I had therapy at 9 with Lee, then ran errands, met Mark at the storage unit and then I got a manicure and pedicure.    He had more places to go, so we finally connected at 1:30, had lunch at Mandarin Garden and on back to Daisy.

Lee gave me the ok today to get back at the weight lifting - been a long time with all the shoulder/neck issues.    So will get back at that next week,, but no lifting above the shoulders.   I'm not sure I remember what I used to do???

 Halloween fun for Luke
in Florida where it's nice 'n warm!

Played 2-handed euchre - not pretty.....I decided we need to come up with a new card game!!!!
Mark won big time and is just soooo darn lucky!    Unbelievable!!!!

Hope your Halloween is

 SPOOKTACULAR !

Thursday - October 28

A cold, blustery day!    Burrrr.....the sunshine was short lived this morning and then the dark, ominous clouds set in, the winds blew (gusts to 30 mph) and 45 for a high!

I fixed a big breakfast, we tidied up Daisy and then left for the Laundromat.   While I did 3 loads, he ran some errands and then back to Daisy - down to our last 2 nights here at Kamp Komfort.

Read in the afternoon and played 2-handed euchre with Mark winning 2 out of 3 games.

We met Marty at Busy Corner for supper, pie and a great visit.   It started raining on our way(light misty stuff) and still coming down.

Wednesday - October 28

Another nasty day and I was out and about all day long!   Mark left in Daisy at 7:30 to go in for some maintenance (Daisy not Mark)!  HA...   I left in the car and met Brenda for breakfast at Carmela's, then ran a few errands, yearly check-up (all is good and got pneumonia and flu shots).  Then more errands, lunch (Panera) with Sue and Jerry and then Sue and I worked on Blue Mountain cards - I was showing her how this works, but had some issues with flash drive on her computer, so.....hope her son can straighten this out.    Then a few more errands, therapy and finally on home at 4:30.    So good to be in Daisy where it's nice and cozy this rainy, windy night - kind of spooky like Halloween!

I have an appointment with a neck specialist on November 16th....

Just when Kamp Komfort was looking kind of forlorn with just a few of us seasonal
RVers' left, more came in tonight.
November 1st, the campground closes for the season....onward SOUTH!!!

Tuesday - October 27

A very ugleeee day with rain all day long and chilly temps.   However, the fun surpassed the weather.    I drove to Peoria and met Jane and Allie and got to see Jane's hubby, Joe and granddaughter, Cora Jane.    We gals were then off to Galesburg where we met Barb (all of us went to Midstate College).    Enjoyed the cute shops and another winner for lunch at the
Landmark CafĂ© and Creperie.

Owen picked Allie up as they had other plans for this evening, I took Jane home and I was back on Daisy by 4:10 as the rain continued to come down!

Mark enjoyed  a quiet day on Daisy as the rain came down.   He did venture out to Busy Corner for lunch and pie!!!

Monday - October 26

Nice day, but cooler than yesterday and windy!    I spoke too soon about "Patricia" as she is now wrecking havoc in Pensacola with heavy rain ad strong winds.    Ryan, Mike and Theresa are bobbing around in the marine.    Mike and Theresa will be flying  home  tomorrow.    Back to work for Philip today.    We sooo appreciate all their help.

Mark was off early this morning to the dentist - he had a crown fall out this weekend.   Luckily, they could get him in and a quick fix.    I stopped at Meijer's for a few things and then had blood work done.   I  met up with everyone for breakfast.    Good to catch up with the gals while the guys chatted about this 'n that.

Then off to therapy for me and Mark went home.   Jim tried a new form of traction today, so we'll see if that helps.   In the meantime, he wants me to see a neck specialist.  I got back to Daisy at 12:30, we had lunch and then got some more clothes organized.

Nine of the Monday Night Friends met at Brenda's tonight for delicious chicken chili supper!    Lots of extra goodies, wine, dessert, etc.    Fun Monday night as always!

Friday-Sunday, October 23-25

Friday – I was up early and off for my 7:30 therapy with Jim.    Boy, my neck got a very rigorous stretching….whew!!   May end up an ostrich before all this is over!
Stopped for a Starbucks treat and then to the meat market for some good treats (brats, steaks, pork chops, hot dogs and burgers) to enjoy this weekend.   Back to Daisy and around 11:30 we left for Hickory Hills (30-minute drive).    This place is MUCH larger than Kamp Komfort.    Mark and I walked around the campground – lots of good hiking and the trees were very pretty.    Although we had some light rain earlier (and more coming tonight and tomorrow), it was a nice afternoon!
Well, my name is certainly in the news…..”Patricia”….the strongest and most powerful hurricane ever???
Happy to report “Terraphobic”, Ryan’s new boat has arrived safely in Pensacola.
Hats off to the Captain (Philip), Mike and Theresa (Mark’s sister) and Philip’s friend, Jeff for the safe delivery.    Ryan in in Jacksonville this weekend so won’t see his new home till Sunday night!
The guys had a nice fire going and then the rain came.    The boys got their hot dogs roasted just in time and Mark grilled brats for the rest of us.    After our yummy supper, we played golf and blitz.
Saturday – rainy off and on and windy.    Had a big breakfast of pancakes, sausages and blueberries on Elsie and then the boys, Anne and I played mini golf and the boys played a round of shuffleboard.    Patrick went into town for about 2 hours to play at the St. Mary’s Chili Cook-off.    Played rummikube in the afternoon, Grandpa got a good fire started, Anne and I went for a walk and the boys played wiffle ball.    We all went to 4:00 Mass at St. Joseph’s in Roanoke and then back to the campground and enjoyed a roaring fire, grilled steaks, visiting and country music coming from our neighbors.    Then indoors for a rousing game of dominoes won by Connor!   FUN day….

Elsie and Daisy are neighbors for the 1st time
Mini golf won by Liam

Gorgeous tree near the church
+ 2 munchkins
Relaxing 'round the fire
Connor ends up the domino king!

Sunday – this is what a picture-perfect fall day is like with brilliant blue skies and the fall color that has exploded!    We enjoyed another great breakfast of pancakes, bacon and cinnamon rolls on Elsie.   Cleaned up and off to the boys hockey game in town which they won 6-3.    Great game and both boys scored a goal!    Back to Hickory Hills where we had lunch (grilled rib eye and pork chop sandwiches.)     The guys played one final game of shuffleboard and then broke down our campsites, said our good-byes with hugs and a promise to make this a yearly tradition.    We arrived back at Kamp Komfort at 4:45.    What a delightful weekend!!!

Mom and Grandma
Picnic time and the last hurrah of the camping season!

Sweet Luke just hanging out this pretty day

Tah Dah...Ryan is on his new home tonight in Pensacola....5 weeks since he left and first night on his boat!

Have a great week!

Thursday - October 22

Very pretty fall day with just a gentle breeze which was nice after 2 very windy days.   I went into town for the usual errands and last hurrah of lunch with Exchange Club.   Although we had disbanded a few weeks ago, we had paid for meals at Second Presbyterian Church (will miss this good food) thru today, so.....more reminiscing and a bit nostalgic.
What a great group whose friendship I dearly treasure!

Got back to Daisy around 1:30 and Mark said "Let's go for a ride in the country"!    Why not....it was spectacular and our first stop was at the White Oak Winery which is close by and a place we had wanted to check out sometime (our time at Kamp Komfort is winding down).    It's a nice little winery owned and operated by Rudy and Mary in a lovely setting.   We had a good visit while wine tasting and left with 3 bottles.    Then drove around the countryside - more and more trees are turning.   In fact when I was in town, I saw some glorious color on the IL Wesleyan campus!     We sure don't have that here at the campground - guess it's the type of trees?   I was a happy camper that I got my fall color fix in great abundance today!    Stopped at the Mercantile Mart in Congerville for a few Christmas gifts and then sat in the warm sunshine enjoying cookies and coffee.

Sorted thru a bunch of clothes - summery things for FL, but first, a tad heavier for NC and so we had bins here and there, but pretty well organized before we leave next week.

Ryan and team arrived in Jacksonville early this evening.    Philip and crew are anchored out east of Fort Walton Beach......tomorrow, on "home" to Pensacola!

I probably won't be updating the blog till Sunday as there's no internet service at Hickory Hills where we'll be camping this weekend with "Elsie"and crew (Anne, Patrick, Liam and Connor).
Can't wait....

I have 7:30 therapy in the morning, then we'll get Miss Daisy ready and off we go in
early afternoon!

Have a great weekend!

Wednesday - October 21

We have some nasty little critters hovering around Daisy and the campground.    They just appeared out of nowhere this afternoon - Japanese Beetles, ladybugs?    They are everywhere!!

We were both off to town this morning - Mark for a haircut and errands and therapy for me..    My neck is just not improving.    Have 3 more sessions scheduled and then try and figure this out.    They could send me to a specialist for the neck and back, but Lee is not sure what that Dr would do?    More therapy or possibly an injection in the neck?    NO THANKS!!

Our boys are on the move - Michael is in Zurich; Philip and crew of Terraphobic (Ryan's boat) crossed the Gulf today and in Apalachicola tonight, and Ryan flew over the Pacific today and in San Diego tonight.    Said a bunch of Hail Mary's today!!!

We are going camping this weekend with Anne, Patrick and boys at Hickory Hills - gotta keep at least one of our kids "grounded" - ha!!!

Bad news for we Cub fans - just unbelievable!
Wait till next year!!!!

Tuesday - October 20

Beautiful, breezy sunny Tuesday.....bummed about lack of fall color.   Thought we would miss it while we were gone, but there is still so much green and already the 20th?

Low-key day - I slept in, did a bunch of e-mails and other computer catching up.   We went to town with our laundry this afternoon and while I did that, Mark ran some errands + picked up some groceries.

Walked around the park a few times late this afternoon.

Our sweet Brady and his "new" teeth after the braces came off.

Watching the Cubs - makin' me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday - October 19

 HOME on Daisy!!!!

We had a good flight from LA to Chicago (losing 2 hours) and just barely caught the 7:30 bus to take us to Rockford where we had left our car.    Pulled into Kamp Komfort at 11:00 PM.

It has been a very enjoyable vacation - first, all the fun in San Francisco with friends and family; 3 days in wine country and finally, Hawaii!    Lots of good memories!

We traveled on 5 different airlines (Virgin Air, Alaskan Air, Island Air, United and American).

Unfortunately, Ryan and the team were not able to fly out today (San Diego was to be their stop tonight and onto Pensacola tomorrow).    There are some jet issues, so......not flying till Wednesday and probably straight to Jacksonville, FL for this weekend's shows.

When the pilots are traveling this great a distance, they stay together for the refueling - going from San Francisco to Hawaii, they topped off their tanks 13x.

After being gone for past 4 weeks, they are so ready to go  home.

Time for unpacking, laundry and catching up tomorrow....but for now,
Nighty night!

Saturday-Sunday, October 17-18

Saturday - started the day with breakfast  at Kani Ka Pila Grille.   We ate here 3 years ago and I made a repeat order of the banana macadamia nut pancake    Still delicious and I'm pretty sure we had the very same waitress.

We walked around a bit on another gorgeous day, but leery about weather across the mountain.   We left for the show and sure enough, another very disappointing weather day on Kaneohe Bay     Heavy dark clouds and poor visibility over the mountains.   Once again, #5, Mark flew over and around the mountains and then the narrator, Jeff announced that "The show will go on".....and another nail-biting day!    But for the throngs there who were seeing the Blue Angels for the first time or enjoying their maneuvers again, it was a great show!

The Navy Leap Frogs performing at the air show

Met Regina, Mother of #2 pilot, Matt Suyderhoud for first time.    She and Jack live in Honolulu.
They had a huge contingent of family and friends there to cheer on Matt.
I loved Regina's fresh lei which smelled so good (ginger)!

Back to the hotel (heavy traffic) and after showers, we went to the 30th Floor at the Leahi Lounge and had a glass of wine and wow.....beautiful nighttime in Honolulu.

We met Ryan for dinner at P. F. Changs - very good as always, but very noisy making it hard to visit.   There were 2 large tables near us that were in a very loud, party mood!!!   Said our good-byes till we meet in Pensacola for Homecoming.    We have a change of plans and after looking at loads for standby and getting home, we're going to attempt a flight tomorrow.

Sunday -  Finished packing, visited with some of the Blues in the lobby and then were on our way to meet our nephew, John and Mandy, their kids and some of Mandy's family (Mom, sister and cousins) for breakfast at Koa Pancake House.

We sat in the warm sunshine enjoying our breakfast and had such a nice visit!    Said our good-byes and they left for the air show (hope 'n pray this 3rd day is a charm with much better weather).

Pretty flowers of Hawaii

Mark and I drove to the airport, turned in the rental car and now waiting to see when we can fly home.   Several options, but oh-so-many-people wanting to do same thing as us!

Stay tuned and next time I write, hopefully, we are back in IL.

Aloha

Friday - October 16

A beautiful sunny start to the day.   After breakfast, we walked around the hotel and hit the streets - soooo many shops all around us - a real retail therapy mecca.   But since we nomads are currently "homeless",  and not in need of any clothes right now, we got the car and headed out in the countryside.

Just getting out of busy bustling Waikiki took some time.   But we were soon in a totally different climate with a misty rain, lots of cloud cover over the mountains and the temperature dropped about 10 degrees.    We stopped at a Whole Foods and picked up a sandwich and headed to the Marine Corps Base Hawaii on Kaneohe Bay for the Blue Angel practice.    The skies had a very leaden appearance all afternoon and could not see the tops of the mountains - NOT good for an air show.   At 2:30 the heavens opened up and it rained so hard - luckily we had the tents nearby to take cover.

Fat Albert came on at 3:15, but the Blues were delayed hoping for the weather to clear up.    Finally at 4:15, they were introduced, got into their jets and lined up for take-off.   The #5 pilot took off (very unusual) with the narrator telling us he was checking the conditions out over the mountain.   The show did go on about 15 minutes later without incident, but we were all on pins and needles with the ominous weather and those mountains which we could barely see the tops of.    Whenever an air show is at a military base, the crowds are huge for Fridays (practice day), so glad they got to see all the maneuvers - just a bit nerve racking for the spouses, parents, etc.

We took a longer route back to the Sheraton - scenic drive along the Pacific with mountains all around us - beautiful!

We were so tired when we finally got back after 7.....had dinner outdoors at Rumfire!

That's the latest from these parts...

GO CUBBIES!!!!

Friday-Thursday, October 9-15

Today is Thursday, October 15th and Mark and I are on Alaskan Airlines headed to Hawaii (short stop in Maui and then onto Honolulu).    It’s been one week since we left home and time to get back at the blog.
San Francisco, Sausalito, Wine Country…..we did it up good and loved every minute of our time in this beautiful part of the USA.

The last update was that we were waiting on Paul and Kathy. one week ago tonight.   Soooo good to see them and had an appetizer and drinks before we all crashed!
October 9   The 4 of us started the day with breakfast and then did the Big Bus tour of San Fran (hop on-hop off) – great way to see the sites.    The weather was perfect – clear blue skies and a little nippy.   The bus took us across the Golden Gate Bridge to a beautiful viewing area where we could look across to the city and watch the Passing of the Feet under the bridge!
Kathy and Pat at the Golden Gate Bridge

Back across the Bay and where we hopped off at Fisherman’s Wharf.   We walked to the Hyatt where Ryan was staying and picked up our passes at front desk for the air show Friday and Saturday.    Then onto lunch at Lou’s Seafood with very good Chef Louis salads.   In our packet of passes, Ryan included wristbands for the 2 days to watch the show from Hook Point (directly across from Center Point – better viewing than the Blue Angel Family and Friends area.    Not many there, except for some family members and the Blue Angel media!   WOW…..absolutely gorgeous looking out over the Bay directly across from Alcatraz with the skyline of the city behind us!    Great practice!    Afterwards, we walked around the Wharf ending up at Pier 39 (Sweet Louis) for drinks and Shrimp Cocktails.
There was a nighttime tour of the city as part of the bus tour so off we went and enjoyed that from 6:30-8:30.   One of the highlights was driving thru the Presidio, a former military base and now some of the base housing has been converted to very pricey, lovey homes with manicured lawns,  biking trails and many other amenities.   This is a very high end area within the city, but almost like a little city itself.
At some point on the bus Mark realized he did not have his Tilley hat…..arghhhhh.   When the tour was over, we walked back to Sweet Louis where we knew he had been wearing it…..no luck!   He thinks someone found it and really wanted the #5 and 6 Blue Angel pins attached to the brim!    Who knows?    BUMMER!    He wears that hat all the time!  Paul and Kathy wanted a bite to eat so found a nearby spot (Brassiere), but Mark and I headed back to the Diva and oh-so-ready for bed!
October 10 – It’s Saturday, another lovey day and after breakfast, walked around  China Town and The Embarcadero Center.    Mark was on a mission to find a new Tilley.    Kathy and I found some nice handmade jewelry from an outdoor market.    There was another nautical shop near Scoma’s where we had lunch and tah dah….Mark has a brand new Tilley hat.   Scoma’s is a very famous San Francisco seafood place – excellent lunches and drinks.    We ate here several years ago and it is as popular as ever.   Off to the show and decided to watch from Hook Point again.    Just in awe watching those blue jets soar over the Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the city!   WOW….sooo proud!    And sooo many people!
Alcatraz and the Blues

Kathy and Paul had seen the Blues in Fort Worth in September, but never a water show – totally different experience and definitely, San Francisco was thee best yet for overall beauty!
Soooo many people in town for Fleet Week and we waited a long time for an Uber driver to take us back to the Diva – traffic was unreal!    Freshened up and then walked to the Embarcadero where we met our niece, Kathy and her boyfriend, Waseem at Osha Thai.   We had so much fun and another wonderful dinner.    Beautiful evening for walking around – the 6 of us took some photos outdoors and then hopped on a cable car (1st time for both of the Kathy’s) and we enjoyed hot fudge sundaes at Ghirardelli Chocolates – oh my…..such a happening place well after 10 PM.    Said our good byes – what a great ending to this fun day!
Waseem and Kathy
 Mark, Pat, Kathy, Paul
on the cable car
October 11 – It’s Paul’s birthday and we 4 were off with our Uber driver to meet Ryan, Kathy and Waseem for breakfast at the Hollywood CafĂ© – long lines and a fun, yummy place for the 7 of us to visit and enjoy our breakfasts!    So good to see Ryan and hope we’ll have more time to be together in Hawaii.   Said good bye to Kathy and Waseem – we look forward to seeing them on November 14th at another niece’s wedding back in IL.
Back to the Diva, where we finished packing,  Mark and Paul were off to get the rental car and Kathy and I got a Starbucks to go (in our hotel and a frequent stop these past few days).     And yes, as Tony Bennett sang, we left our hearts (hat for Mark) in San Francisco.    And God willing, we 4 hope to be back here next year!
We drove to Sausalito – wow!     Such a unique experience this Sunday…….unlike Friday and Saturday when the skies were a deep blue with nary a cloud in sight, Sunday was clear as a bell in San Fran and Sausalito, BUT….a very heavy layer of fog was across the bridge and thru a swath on the Bay – almost eerie!     The Blues were able to fly…..want to talk to Ryan about that as when we left Sausalito and just before their show, you could still only see the tips of a few skyscrapers!
And now onto Sonoma and Wine Country….we are staying at the Sonoma Valley Inn for the next 3 nights and it’s in a great location with a short walk to downtown and all the cute shops and many restaurants, cafes, etc.
After settling in, we walked downtown and a lady on the street (born and raised here) mentioned some good places to eat.   We went to LaSalette, a Portuguese restaurant that was phenomenal.    Sat outside in the courtyard and savored every bite as we toasted to Paul!
October 12-13 – Two big days of touring wine country leaving at 9 AM and returning at 5.  Monday our driver was Alfredo and we did Napa Valley and 4 wineries (Cakebread, Rombauer, Plump Jack and Silver Oaks) with a stop at Dean Deluca for sandwiches and other goodies – what a wonderful deli and ate our delicious lunch on the patio at Rombauer   We had dinner Monday evening at The Girl and the Fig – another awesome meal and sat outdoors on this starry night!

 Alfredo our Monday driver
Enrique our Tuesday driver
Domaine Carneros
Gorgeous views

Enrique took us to some of the Sonoma wineries including Domaine Carneros – spectacular views from a high, steep hill.    Also, stopped at Buena Vista, Ledson (another good lunch here) and Imagery.    The views are just incredible (reminded us a lot of Tuscany, except no olive trees).   There are over 900 wineries in the Sonoma and Napa Valley regions!!!    These past 2 days were a wonderful experience tasting all kinds of wine with good friends in God’s country with perfect sunny, warm weather.
Tonight we went to The Red Grape for excellent spinach salads, pizza and wine!
October 14 – We are packed and time to leave wine country!    (Sad smiley face here)…….Mustards Grill was recommended by several (starting with Michael and Brooke).    We could not get in for dinner Monday night, so made a reservation on Monday for lunch today.   This place is rural outside of Yountville (Napa region) and was an excellent choice for our last meal in wine country!
We headed to Muir Woods – wow….so much beauty walking thru this forest of Redwoods and other trees that have been here for thousands of years.    It was such a pretty day for hiking and we took a bunch of pics.

Great hiking

So much beauty with these very old, very tall redwoods

We spent our last night in Burlingame (south of San Fran) and walked to The Elephant Bar for great appetizers and drinks.    And then, it was time to say good bye to Paul and Kathy after 1 week of big-time fun!!!!!    They will fly back to Dallas this afternoon – can’t wait to see them in February in Fort Myers.   We were all very sorry to hear that a long-time friend of ours we all knew thru boating had passed away this morning after a short battle with cancer.   Bob will be greatly missed!
That pretty much wraps up our time in San Francisco and wine country.
October 15 - Onto Paradise and here we are on Waikiki Beach at the Sheraton.   Absolutely beautiful sunny afternoon.   Our room was not ready so we sat by pool area and had drinks and pork nachos (yum).   We are at the Sheraton, Waikiki and it is a big-time shopping mecca.    We met Ryan for dinner at the Shore Bird where we had my birthday lunch (2/20/12) before the Tiger Cruise.    So pleasant sitting by the beach, relaxing and catching up with our boy!   We are very tired nomads.
Aloha

Thursday - October 8

Hello from San Francisco - drove to Rockford, left our car with Mark's sister, Janet and then took bus to O'Hare.   Good flight (4 hours) arriving at 5:10 and about 1 hour later, had checked into our hotel.

We're waiting on Paul and Kathy who are on their way and been in touch with Ryan who is about 1 mile from here up a steep hill!   Lots of those out here!

Let the fun begin....

Wednesday - October 7

Warm and sunny today - gorgeous!!!    I was off to town for errands, therapy, manicure and haircut.   I was evaluated at therapy with measurements, forms to fill out, questions to answer to Lee, etc.   The gist is that the shoulder is doing great and back to normal - hooray!!!   Still have some work to do on the neck, but it, too, is making progress.   Lee gave me some new exercises to do while I'm gone the next 12 days and have 2 sessions set up with him when I return home!

Back to Daisy and Mark arrived about 1/2 hour after me.   He really enjoyed his time helping Bob and Linda fed him well!!!

We sorted thru the laundry + the farming clothes and off to the Laundromat.   Did 3 loads and sat next door at Gloria Jeans enjoying our coffees.   I had a fall concoction that was sooo good
Caramel Apple Nut Chiller
Not too sweet - just perfect!

We finished our packing walked around the park a few times and now watching the Cubs!

Saw my first "pretty" tree with fall colors and this yummy burning bush in
Anne and Patrick's neighborhood

Tomorrow...

SAN FRANCISCO, here we come!!!

Will try to update the blog off and on while we're gone!

Bye for now...

Tuesday - October 6

A correction to yesterday's blog - the Nafziger Family Farm where I visited Monday with Martha was founded in 1854 - typo there and a big difference of 40 years!

Brenda, Sue and Claire picked me up at 10 and we were off to Mackinaw (about 20 minutes away from Kamp Komfort).   I haven't been here (Depot Tea Room and Gift Shop) and the Porcelain Berry in several years.    Well, it was just as neat as ever.....great shopping and lunch was excellent!
So fun to be with these gals!

Pat and Sue
Brenda and Claire
Here we are at the Mercantile Mart in Congerville for more shopping.

SWEET PEA

After another chilly, dreary start to the day, around 3:00, the sun came out and warmed up to 71!
Just a beautiful afternoon for a stroll around the campground.

Mark is enjoying helping Bob....home tomorrow.

Monday - October 5

Today was fun and busy......Mark left at 7:30 for Sublette and help Bob with the farming.   I went into town, stopped at Meijer's, had breakfast with the Monday Morning group, therapy with Lee and lunch with Martha at the Carlock Family Restaurant.

Always fun to visit with Martha and that we did over our grilled ham and cheese sandwiches.   Then to the farm where Martha grew up and has been in her family since 1854 (6 generations).   Today started out foggy, dreary and cool, but the sun came out when Martha was giving me the tour (her brother and sister-in-law live there now).   Sooo pretty and pleasant out on the country.

I came back to Daisy and caught up on computer stuff and read.

Somebody else was out in the country today with his Mommy and Grandpa...

Smelling the pretty flowers

Tonight, the Sublettians (Central IL Chapter) met at The Busy Corner.    Ann picked me up and we had our usual fun outing of catching up, laughs and good food (pie, too)!

Debbi, Jane, Ann, Marilyn, Pat
Hockey stars practicing tonight
Connor (48); Liam (44)

Sunday - October 4

Cloudy, chilly and windy for most of the day, but around 4:15, the sun came out and what a treat!

We went to 10:00 Mass at Holy Trinity and then met friends, Don and Cathy for breakfast/lunch at Destihl.   Their breakfasts (only about 7 or 8 choices) are phenomenal.....definitely a place to return  to as it's always a favorite lunch spot.

Fun Sunday with good long, time friends!

Got my car washed and on "home".    Vacuumed the car and got suitcases out and started packing for our trip later this week to San Francisco, Napa Valley, Hawaii.  We leave Thursday.    So excited to see our friends, Paul and Kathy who are coming from Texas and of course,
Ryan and the Blue Angels.

Anne and family drove to Milwaukee today for the last game of the season between the Cubs and Brewers won by the Cubbies 3-1.    They had a great day and really impressed with Miller Park.
And now it's onto Pittsburgh and the playoffs Wednesday night!!!

2 Cubbie fans....

Mark is leaving in the morning for Sublette and helping my brother, Bob for a few days with the harvesting.

Saturday - October 3

Chilly, blustery, cloudy day with a high of only 59.    A leisurely morning on Daisy.  I made sausage, eggs and toast for breakfast and around 11, we went into town and to the storage unit.   Been trying to find our sweaters for winter.    After much searching thru bins and boxes, we found them in the trunk (right where I usually store them).   Brooke and Michael will eventually be getting this and of course, it was put way in front of all the stuff.   But we found 'em and got everything put back in even better order!

Darrel and Tamara were hosting the Monday Night Friends and grandchildren for a wiener roast and hayrack ride.    Only 5 of our gals came, but with husbands, kids, grandkids and friends made for a really fun late afternoon/evening.    Darrel took us on a fun ride around the country roads and then we enjoyed a huge, wonderful array of good eating!

Over a roaring fire (even with the strong winds), we enjoyed our hot dogs and s'mores.
There were 21 of us total - great time in the country!

Friday - October 2

Another winner in the weather department....started out really chilly but warmed up to the mid 60s with blue skies and strong winds!

Mark ran some errands; I went to town for therapy....massage, ultrasound, traction.   I think (at times) that the neck is a tad better, but don't want to jinx this!!!

I had a few errands afterwards and then to Biaggi's for lunch with PEO gals.    We (12 of us) went to Sue Ellen's home and strolled thru her GORGEOUS backyard for a photo session
"skipping a stone" into her lovely pond.

Back to Daisy around 3 and made a pasta salad for tomorrow's wiener roast and hayrack ride - taking Liam and Connor to the country (Darrel and Tamara's home) with other
Monday Night Friends and families.

Tonight we drove to Toluca and met Philip, Annette, Luke and her parents, Dave and Judy at Mona's for family-style chicken with salad, garlic bread, chicken, French fries, spaghetti, tortellini and wine!   All delish!!!
So fun to all be together.

And.....Annette, Luke ,Dave and Judy are going to join us tomorrow for the wiener roast.   Philip has to fly back to FL and that darn thing called "work"!!!

Enjoy your weekend!
