Friday - October 16

A beautiful sunny start to the day.   After breakfast, we walked around the hotel and hit the streets - soooo many shops all around us - a real retail therapy mecca.   But since we nomads are currently "homeless",  and not in need of any clothes right now, we got the car and headed out in the countryside.

Just getting out of busy bustling Waikiki took some time.   But we were soon in a totally different climate with a misty rain, lots of cloud cover over the mountains and the temperature dropped about 10 degrees.    We stopped at a Whole Foods and picked up a sandwich and headed to the Marine Corps Base Hawaii on Kaneohe Bay for the Blue Angel practice.    The skies had a very leaden appearance all afternoon and could not see the tops of the mountains - NOT good for an air show.   At 2:30 the heavens opened up and it rained so hard - luckily we had the tents nearby to take cover.

Fat Albert came on at 3:15, but the Blues were delayed hoping for the weather to clear up.    Finally at 4:15, they were introduced, got into their jets and lined up for take-off.   The #5 pilot took off (very unusual) with the narrator telling us he was checking the conditions out over the mountain.   The show did go on about 15 minutes later without incident, but we were all on pins and needles with the ominous weather and those mountains which we could barely see the tops of.    Whenever an air show is at a military base, the crowds are huge for Fridays (practice day), so glad they got to see all the maneuvers - just a bit nerve racking for the spouses, parents, etc.

We took a longer route back to the Sheraton - scenic drive along the Pacific with mountains all around us - beautiful!

We were so tired when we finally got back after 7.....had dinner outdoors at Rumfire!

That's the latest from these parts...

GO CUBBIES!!!!
