A beautiful day for travel - Bob and Linda heading south and Mark and I in our little caravan going north,. But first things first and that was breakfast at Oma's - some good hearty fare, then took them back to their hotel, said our good byes and off we went back to the campground to get Flo and Big Red.
We had a good trip and I enjoyed my 60's on 6 with Phlash Phelps (DJ) - all these guys do such a good job of entertaining, sharing stories and lots of interesting facts about what's going on around the country + several commemorations for 911. This is how I heard about the antique tractor show happening today thru Monday involving over 1700 antique tractors brought in on trailers from around the country. This is the 16th annual and a big deal as the crowd gathers at Mackinaw City and travel across the Mackinac Bridge (5 miles) to St. Ignace. Signs were posted to expect delays from 2-6 today on the bridge.
The bridge is such an incredible structure and seeing the straits of Mackinac is always sooo cool with beautiful blue waters. We've been "under" the bridge more times than driving over.
We only had a 20-minute wait for the ferry when we got to DeTour Village and then a short (1-mile) ride across to Drummond.
We drove around passing familiar spots on the island and then at 5, arrived at Fred and Carol's beautiful home. Fred and Mark worked together at State Farm many years ago. We were last here 10 years ago and a few years earlier when they were in the process of building (Fred's incredible handiwork) and living in an Airstream. They also invited Bill and Beth who are full-timers on the island and formerly from a Chicago suburb. Bill and Beth were neighbors for a few weeks in February at Cypress Trail and such a small world to have us all come together! Carol served a huge array of appetizers, mini prime rib sliders, etc., etc......great evening and a nice start to our stay on this quaint island!
Very slow internet here so no pics tonight. Enjoy your weekend!
