Turn your volume up as you read this and we’ll get you in the patriotic spirit…
Mark went to the marina for some coffees to go (they have lots of good ice cream and coffee choices.) He hosed down the boat – after last night’s fireworks which we enjoyed (both the town of Point au Baril and the dock beside us in the marina), we found lot of paper and ash all over Catrina this morning. Last night for supper, I pan fried our fresh Pike that was given to us and what a TREAT!!! The man’s wife had given us a little baggie of breading and no clue what it was, but made for a very tasty meal!
Lots of boats came in the harbor to watch the skies light up last night and celebrate Canada Day. We left Desmasdons Boatworks and went across the bay to tie up at the government docks. Here we had breakfast and watched as various boats came with their stuff to dispose of from the islands…..just in the short time we were there, we saw a refrigerator, sewer pipe, lawn furniture, mattresses and a dismantled fireplace taken to the dumpster. As we were leaving this little town, a parade of decorated boats came by as the Canada Day festivities continue.
Leaving this nice, friendly marina on Pointe au Baril
One of the many boats all decked out for Canada's holiday weekend
Georgian Bay is the land of 30,000 islands and so many have cottages of all sorts built on them only accessible by boat. We left Pointe au Baril and traveled 31.3 miles constantly checking charts, buoys, markers, etc. thru this rugged territory and at times, very shallow water. But most of the time, we are going at slower speed and just soaking up all the beauty – a totally different pace of life up here. Because of the holiday, many boats were out and about, along with kayaks, canoes, etc.
Lots of coverage on the Royals (William and Kate’s) Canadian visit this week….they are making a big splash up here!
We arrived at 1:15 in Killbear (we were here for our anniversary on 6/28/07). Went for a walk and checked out the little store and marina shop. Not much here (Killbear Provincial Park), but they have a top-notch restaurant, “Ship-shore” and we went back for another delicious meal.
We visited with our dockmates over dinner and then they came aboard for a nice chat sharing our boating experiences and gave us some good tips on cruising thru the Trent-Severn Waterway.

No internet here…..it’s been off and on and same with phone service (Mark’s AT&T does get better coverage than my Sprint).
Just a short little jaunt tomorrow to Parry Sound (12 miles).
