Tuesday-Wednesday, July 5-6

Here’s what’s been happening since I last posted (no internet last night at Ladis Bay)

July 5 - Back cruising today with mostly cloudy skies. We left Parry Sound at 9:30 and meandered around this rock and that rock in deep water (100+ feet down to 6’), past some very narrow passages that only a canoe or kayak could fit thru – so picturesque!!! We stopped at Henry’s (a Georgian Bay institution that’s been here for years offering the freshest, most delicious fish!) Along with other boaters, we watched 2 float planes land with everyone looking forward to a great lunch and that it was.  Henry’s on Frying Pan Island is accessible only by boat or plane.

Mark was reading an article about Georgian Bay/North Channel being the best cruising in the world after Greece!!! Well, we haven’t been to Greece, but agree this ranks right up near the top!

We cruised another 2 miles (total of 27.5 today) and are anchored out tonight in Ladis Bay – only boat here and oh-so-quiet and peaceful!

Pretty Ladis Bay

Float planes were popular in Parry Sound taking folks on tours of the Bay, stopping for lunch and/or dinner at Henry’s, a sunset champagne cruise, etc.

Patrick (son-in-law) called to tell us Casey Anthony had been acquitted – what a shocker-roo!!!

Mark visited with some guys on the dock yesterday who were traveling together (3 families on their boats). They talked about “dinghy envy”, a common term up here as they seem to outdo one another with who has the bigger dinghy (main transportation from island to island). There are some biggies for sure!!!

"Big" dinghy

The sun came out late afternoon and it’s just a gorgeous evening. Mark decided we needed some dessert….too stuffed after lunch for something, so we took Tigger (dinghy) to Henry’s (2 miles) and had thee most delicious butter tarts w/ice cream…..he so loves his sweets (and I’m right there with him)!

July 6 - Started raining during the night – ahhhh, that makes for great sleeping with just a gentle pitter patter of rain drops on Catrina’s roof. We exercised, had breakfast and left around 9:30. Lots more meandering today around rocks and constantly checking charts, buoys, depths and 4 eyes always on the look-out! The binoculars are put to very good use. We cruised 33 miles and saw this ferry carrying a cement truck to one of the island homes.

Beautiful South Bay Cove

Sun came out and just a beautiful afternoon/evening. We are at the South Bay Cove Marina in Honey Harbor and it’s a “honey” of a marina for sure!!!!   We were here 4 years ago and "just had to come back"!   First of all, lots of big yachts here (most we’ve seen since leaving Muskegon) and has so many neat amenities that we boaters really appreciate…..newspaper delivery to the boat; coffee/cookies in boater’s lounge, free ice delivered to the boat and many other extras normally not  found. The “Top of the Cove” is a fabulous restaurant here overlooking the marina – we had a great dinner  and now settled in (really cool out tonight) with our laptops, Nooks, etc.   Nice chatting on Skype with friends from home, Paul and Kathy.
