Monday - August 6

Our Monday started out with threatening skies and lots of activity in the park as campers were packing it up and heading home.   We got the exercising out of the way and after breakfast, took off to explore Moncton.  First stop was Costco....closed!   Oh yes, it's a holiday and practically everything will be shut down today.    So, off to Magnetic Hill, an area of shops/restaurants, huge magic mountain water park, zoo, and the phenomenon, "magnetic hill" where you drive your vehicle to the foot of the hill, shift into neutral, and sit tight while you coast uphill backwards"?  Actually it is really an optical illusion.
  One of Moncton's big attractions!

Drove to the Magneic Hill Winery high on Mountain Road overlooking the city - beautiful old home (1867) that has been renovated into a B and B and winery.   Had an interesting chat with the owner's son and sampled some good wines.    Three bottles tucked under our arm later we were on our way.
What a lovely place in a spectacular setting.

So....off to downtown Moncton where we parked Toad and walked around.    Most of the restaurants were open, but other businesses closed,    We had a fabulous lunch outdoors at "The Tide and Boar Gastropub".    Beautiful day to sit outside and enjoy the breeze and our lunch.....halibut tacos, lobster roll and tide 'n boar salads - oh my.....assorted greens and grilled root vegetables, among other goodies - DEElish!    We asked our waitress "what is a gastropub"?    Learned something new .....term came from England and means a high-end pub that serves more than the traditional pub food and better beers.   Well, this place was a WINNER!!!!  This term came from England when 2 men renamed a pub over there in 1991 after changing the menu!

Walked back to where we had parked in Moncton Tidal Bore Park, took our bikes off the rack and went for a ride - nice path along the Petitcodiac River (nicknamed the Chocolate River) which was at low tide.....soooo chocolaty looking!     Met two couples from Madison, WI who used to live in Milledgeville, IL and winter in Naples, FL.

Gosh...we are very sore today, especially the backs of our legs from all the hill climbing we've done past 2 days!    But biking felt good and then we joined lots of other folks in the bleachers along the waterfront for the daily sighting of the "tidal bore" which occurred at 1:44 PM (also at 3 AM).   This twice-a-day natural phenonomen is the result of the record high tides of the Bay of Fundy.   These cause the water to raise with just one wave coming in from the bay.   Another big attraction in Moncton.    The skies darkened once again while we were watching this....
nothing so far!    50% chance of rain today?

The crowd is starting to gather
Here comes the wave
Getting closer
The Moncton Tidal Bore

Spent most of the afternoon back on Daisy, reading, napping and just chillin' - it is a holiday ya know!!!

Hi Pat: Guess you found out the Tidal Bore is a complete BORE!!!!! We also sat for about an hour thinking we were really going to see a big, big amount of water washing into that big hole in the ground only to see really just a little amoount of water. Talked to some locals that night and they said it really was a sight to see back in the days. Along the route you could see a lot of hotels and high rise buildings that were built to see this phenom, but now there is just not much to see but a big hole. We also did the HILL and yes concluded that it was just an illusion. The D's and Brady are coming for the day tomorrow so Brooke can go check on the house and play tennis later in the day. Bob has contracted with them to help pick up all the azaleas limbs that he has been cutting for the last week. Brady even said that he would like to work too. Hope it does not rain!!!!!! which it has been doing tonight. Really enjoying the blog and reading about all the places we have toured. Safe travels. Love, Judy

Hi again Pat: Forgot to tell you that the stone bleachers were not there when we attended this phenom. Guess it is still a big, big attraction. On our travels there was another town that we could have seen their tidal bore, but needless to say we passed this one by. Oh, by the way no Tim Horton's today!!!!!!!! We also could not pass them up for breakfast a lot of our days in Canada. Love, Judy
