It’s a beautiful Sunday – really warming up. Left Hardings Point and took the ferry across to Westfield (6-minute trip) and then enjoyed our first stop at Tim Horton’s of the season….ahhh…there’s nothing like a Tim Horton donut (we prefer over Dunkin Donuts) – so fresh! And Mark loves the coffee. Then off to Mass at St. Matthew’s in Grand Bay at 10. Father Jerry welcomed us and asked if we lived near Peoria? Small world…..he’s flying into O’Hare this afternoon and then going there to be with his friend, the principal of Notre Dame High School. They studied together in Rome!!!
So, truckin down the road and passed the big city of St. John. Another day of pretty scenery with lots of farm country, rolling hills and valleys. We drove 110 miles to Moncton and are at the Camper’s City Campground. After a few cooler days, it was up to 88, so we turned on the air, had lunch on Daisy and drove about 35 miles to the Hopewell Rocks which is the largest tidal change in the world. We followed alongside the Chocolate River…..a very appropriate name as it looks like a huge area of melted Hershey candy bars!
We arrived around 2:30 and observed high tide at 3:10 walking on a trail thru the woods (so cool and pleasant). The rock formations (flower pots) were something to see when the water was at high tide and then….3 hours later, folks could “walk the ocean” at low tide (a drop of 43’). The highest range is actually in Nova Scotia about 3 miles away, but this has the unique rock formations to go with the tide making for a great tourist/observation spot. Relaxed with our books and information guide on the deck of the “High Tide Café” . At 5:30 we walked back down the trail and whoaaa….no water, so we along with many others “walked the ocean”. The rock formations were truly something to see. Homer Spit, Alaska has a range of 25-30’.
Here we are at high tide
A kayaker among the rock formations
three hours later...
I'm standing where kayaker was
Stopped at the Log Cabin Restaurant just down the road for delicious dinner…..I had Bay Fundy bacon-wrapped scallops and Mark had the fish ‘n chips (haddock)….sooo fresh and yummy.
Driving past the Chocolate River again….whoaaa, sooo shallow and muddy and just something to see as the tide out and the river was way down!
Cooled off again this evening! Have a great week!

Evening Pat: Just saw the pics of Hopewell. So glad you got to see both high and low tides. We were there at high tide as we started our month trip and then saw them at low tide on our way back to Maine. As you say we can walk on the Bay of Fundy. We also saw kayaks at high tide and then walked where they were at low tide. Have a picture of me at low tide almost the same as yours. Safe travels and have a good week. Love, Judy
