Thursday - August 2

Today we drove in misty rain off and on.     Stopped at Wal-Mart in Calais and onto Robbinston where we plan to stay at the Hilltop Campground till Saturday.   Waiting for our mail to arrive – hopefully, tomorrow?   Sun came out and we were off to Eastport, a quaint little fishing village north of here with a few cute shops, bakery (wow – beautiful confectionery delights) and some museums, art galleries, etc.   The fog rolled in and could not see out on the water.   Stopped for lobster rolls at the Quoddy Bay Lobster Company and brought back to Daisy for supper.   FANTASTIC!!!!We stopped at the 45th Parallel Gift Shop in Perry, ME…….1/2 way between the North Pole and the equator.
Beautiful late afternoon and evening…..the locals told us they had some really hot weather earlier, too.   Doubt it was as HOT as the Midwest and so much of the nation experienced, but definitely warmer than usual.   So, they are happy to be back to their “natural” air conditioning.
Once we get into Canada, we’ll be in the Atlantic Time Zone and move up 1 hour.    Newfoundland will add ½ hour.   My phone is already confused as we are so close to Canada and it keeps switching back and forth from eastern to Atlantic.
We walked around the park tonight wearing sweatshirts!!!    Met some really nice folks and got their stamp of approval for a day trip tomorrow to Campobello Island and the FDR estate in New Brunswick.   It was what we had planned to do, but their enthusiasm for this beautiful estate sealed the deal!!!

Evening Pat: We also recommend FDR's Campobello. We did this our last trip to the Maritimes. We also crossed back into Canada at Calais. We had been to Black's Harbour to do our whale watching tour. Made reservations a day in advance, but weather can play havoc on the tour. Sometimes you can go and sometimes not. It was very overcast and a little foggy in the beginning, but we had a nice morning with no rain and the fog did go away just leaving the overcast skies. Our tour Company was Triton of the Bay Boat Tours if you are interested. We also went by East Quoddy Light House on the tour. The captain of our boat gave us a great commentary pointing out all the sights. He also pointed out an island which was Bliss Island not really knowing our last name. He also gave a little history of the island. It was a great added fact for our day. A very quaint village we also visited was St. Andrews by the Sea. I think we ate lunch there after our tour and shopped, of course!!!! Great shops. Safe travels and hope you have good weather. Cooler is all right just no rain during the day. Love, Judy
