Wednesday - August 8

We had a wonderful day in Halifax starting with exercising, breakfast and off to the Citadel for tour of this fort which protected Halifax Harbor.    This fortification was completed in 1856 after 28 years of construction but has never been attacked.    Every day since (except Christmas), promptly at noon, the cannon is fired.    So….all we tourists gathered and….. it misfired (that hasn’t happened in a long while) but on the 2nd try, BOOM…… also toured the Army Museum.

Preparing the cannon

Bagpipers and Drum Corps

Walked down to the waterfront and while checking out a spot for lunch, we came upon a boat from Bayfield, WI.    We met the owners (Jeff and Sally) who know our friends, Gary and Judy from back home who spend the summer in Bayfield on their boat.     Jeff was having dinghy engine issues, so Mark took him and engine to repair shop.    I did some shopping, but mainly walked the water front and enjoyed the Halifax Busker Festival – 2 weeks of massive entertainment by acrobats, musicians, storytellers, mimes, and much more!    There were tons of people out and about to enjoy the gorgeous day along with many food/shop venues.    Supposedly it is even more crowded at nighttime!
When Mark returned with Jeff, we walked some more and enjoyed 2 girls who were phenomenal on the trampoline.    And then after all the traffic, we were back on Daisy.
Shortly after we met Jeff and Sally, we had lunch (near their boat, “Adirondack”) at “The Bicycle Thief”.   It was soo pleasant sitting outside having fish cakes/spaghetti with crab and wine.     Then Mark thought we should have a look at the dessert menu…I’ve never seen so many outstanding choices!
Mark's "Old-fashioned toasted coconut cream pie with chocolate crust"
I had homemade peanut butter gelato with hot fudge and crumbled peanut brittle and whipped cream.....
We WADDLED away happy and stuffed!   Definitely one for the memory books!
Sitting at “The Bicycle Thief” today and looking out over the water…..weather and scenery (and of course, the food/drink) so perfect, we decided to make an addition to our “Bucket List”…….bring Catrina up to the beautiful shores of eastern Canada……never hurts to dream!!!
Tomorrow...off to Louisbourg

Hi Pat: So glad you enjoyed the Citadel and the harbor is so enjoyable too. We did not see the cannon fired, but did she the bagpiper and drum corps. We also went to Louisbourg and it was an interesting place too. Ralph and Bob just could not wait until we got to that spot. Again they could have stayed longer than we did I am sure. Have a good day and hope the weather is as good tomorrow and it was Wednesday. Love, Judy
