Monday - July 6

Another gorgeous day of travel thru Washington - just phenomenal scenery and a photographer's paradise.    Of course, all this mountainous beauty meant more white knuckle driving for Mark.    We drove thru Leavenworth again.....so charming with all the Bavarian-style hotels with their overflowing window boxes, horse-driven carriages, etc.

We left our campground around 8:50 and reached the end of Route 2 in Everett, WA just before noon.    We were expecting a big sign or some sort of recognition (after all, this road goes from Maine to Washington), but nothing...zilch!    Big disappointment as this was a very good highway to take (from Wisconsin) for us and we thoroughly enjoyed the scenery along the way.    We've traveled over 2600 miles since leaving Bloomington on June 14th and 2300+ were on Route 2.

Stopped in Arlington for lunch (made sandwiches on Flo) as the temps dropped along the way.  We are in the 60's here in North Whidbey RV Park in Oak Harbor, WA.    The US Naval Base is only a few miles away so expecting to hear the roar of those jets over the next 4 days.    Ryan has a Blue Angel friend (#4 Nate) and family who live on Whidbey - would've been fun to get together, but not with Covid - also his former roommate (#2 John) and family live in Seattle which is 85 miles south of here.

When we were planning this trip, I really wanted to visit Vancouver and start from there.   And then eventually pick up Pacific Highway 101 and on down the coast, but the Canadian border is still closed.

Washington beauty

We went from clear blue skies to all this cloud cover.....fortunately, not for long!

We followed the Wenatchee River with all the rapids and spectacular waterfalls outside Leavenworth.    It was about a 50-mile stretch of no towns....just climbing into the mountains. and oohing and aahing (me).     And finally, here comes some civilization with:  Start Up, Gold Bar, Mt. Index to name a few.
Drove past several wineries, fruit stands, orchards, and casinos.    And always, always, the itty bitty cute coffee shops.

It is a beautiful evening - we walked around the park earlier.    Several here are seasonal.   Looking forward to the next 3 days exploring this area.
