HAPPY "GOLDEN" BIRTHDAY,
CONNOR!!!

14 on the 14th!

Thinking of our happy-go-lucky, smart, kind, fun-loving, athletic grandson today!    Wish we could celebrate with you but know your Mom, Liam and Gibson will make it special!

Other memories of this day......1 year ago today, our family all gathered at Rainbow Trout Ranch in Antonio, CO for the start of a very fun vacation.

14 years ago today, I got a new car - Honda CRV and we drove for first time to hospital to meet Connor.

Connor starts the 1st of 4 family birthdays this week with Brooke, Blair and Maeve all coming in the next few days.

We left Kelso at 10:30 and not long till we entered Oregon.    And of course, didn't take long to see the wild daisies along the roadside and tah dah.....all the little coffee shops.    We stopped in Astoria (Philip's recommendation) and enjoyed our fix at "Journey's End" and definitely we'll come back to this town without Flo.  Usually these little coffee spots do not have food, but today, they had several pastries and we scarfed down chocolate chip muffin top (Mark) and cranberry/orange for me.

Astoria is a very old (dating back to 1811) charming, quaint fishing/boating village along the Columbia River flowing out to the Pacific.

Flo was in dire need of a good wash, so luckily we found a good place in Seaside, OR.      Not that many car washes can accommodate RV's/campers.  Pull thru's aren't tall enough or long enough with Big Red towing.    But, we got the job done and happy to have a clean shiny home again.

It is a spectacular day with temps in the upper 60's and lots of sunshine.    We are on the outskirts of Cannon Beach at the Cannon Beach RV Resort - very woodsey and pretty with paved sites and roads.  The pool, restrooms, playground and all public facilities are closed.    Planning to stay 2 nights.

Davis had all 4 wisdom teeth cut and removed today (they no longer say "pulled").   He did well and lying low rest of the day.

This has been on my Bucket List - drive along Pacific Highway 101 and today, we have arrived!!!

We took off for Cannon Beach 1/2 mile away - what a darling little town (founded in 1956) - wow!    155 years after Astoria.   This seaside town is home to cute B n' B's, cozy cottages and the architecture is somewhat like New England.

We checked out the big "highlight" of Cannon Beach - Haystack Rock is one of Oregon's most recognizable landmarks rising 235 feet from the edge of the shoreline.    Great for bird watching and a state protected marine environment.    You can walk out to the rock at low tide, but first have to climb a big hill of sand - no thanks!
Haystack Rock - an Oregon icon

We found Wayfarer overlooking the ocean and enjoyed a late lunch on the deck with only 5 tables and well spread apart.   It was pure heaven as we had icy cold chardonnay and fish (very fresh melt-in-your-mouth halibut) and chips.    Topped it off with a blueberry/grilled pineapple cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream and blueberry sauce.   Oh my....

Very yummy dessert

Sitting outside on a perfect day overlooking the water with delicious food and drink - love it!!!!!    Pinching myself that we are now in Oregon and what we've seen so far is all yes yes yes!

Anne and the Birthday Boy are out of town tonight watching Connor's team in Benson......they asked him to be 1st base coach!!!
Coach Campbell at 1st base

After all the pretty flowers (and wildflowers in WA), saw many more today including these gorgeous hydrangeas and bright red blooms?

Any idea what these are?    Very plentiful in yards and along the roads.

We walked thru the park - very pretty and lots of campers.    Stopped and visited with Jack, Linda and Maggie Mae (English Sheep dog) who are traveling in their Airstream.   Jack was a state trooper for 43 years.   Nice couple from OR who told us some of their favorites in this area to be sure and check out.

Sooo many families out and about, kiddies riding bikes, folks sitting around the campfire, having a picnic supper, etc.   And most everyone wearing a jacket, hoodie, etc.....definitely a nip in the air!

Connor's team won both games tonight!   Must've been that excellent
coaching from 1st base!   😀
