Wednesday - July 15

Another beautiful sunny 65-degree day in Cannon Beach.....we both did our exercises, had breakfast and then off to Astoria the town we came thru yesterday (founded in 1811).

We saw some beautiful old homes high on the hill (this town is several layers) and drove over the Astoria Megler Bridge, the longest continuous truss bridge in the world completed in 1966.   It connects OR and WA and is 4.1 miles across the Columbia River.   We stopped at Josephson's Seafood for some smoked salmon !    I'm a happy camper !!!

We drove into Seaside (between Astoria and Cannon Beach - more touristy and described as a Coney Island town).   On back to Flo for lunch and then headed south on 101.   Ecola State Park is just 2 miles away and a "must-see: when in this area.   However, in February, there was a huge landslide and the park is still closed.   Major clean-up and no idea when it will re-open.

So, 10 miles south is West Oswald State Park with beach access and many hiking/biking trails.    We found a parking spot (they were at a premium) and watched all the surfers carry their surfboards (or pull one) the 1/2 mile to the beach going under 101.    The skies were so blue today but not over the water where it was very hazy.

On our way back to Cannon Beach we drove thru the darling "downtown" - oh my, sooo many cute shops and eateries.    Lots of people out and about, wearing masks, but still not comfortable going in and out of stores......did stop at the bakery (just 2 people allowed inside) and picked up some yummy pastries for breakfast tomorrow.    Also got Mark a cherry turnover which he enjoyed back on Flo warmed up with a little ice cream.

Another very enjoyable day in this beautiful area...tomorrow we are off again!

Some sites we saw today...

Our route for many more miles of scenic beauty

Maeve's ringlets are back!!!    All natural....

Mark took a nap late afternoon and I walked thru the park.    Did facetime with Anne and Connor..    Glad to hear they got over 2" of rain tonight - not so much for the storms, though!    Some areas got 5+"

Another big night of families having fun......we walked after supper.    Most of these campers
are from OR, WA, CA and UT.
