2023
Hope you had a wonderful day celebrating our nation's birthday!
Today is all about the 247th birthday of our great USA, barbeques, ice cream, pie, parades, fireworks, patriotic music, wering red, white and blue, and whatever makes you happy and feel good!

Happy Birthday!

We started the day with beutiful blue sunny skies and the Mayflies are back!!!    Had sausage, eggs, toast and juice to get the day off and running.

Mark worked on more logistics for our trip - weather conditions
(wind direction, wave heights, etc.).   He has a spreadsheet of all our stops, marinas, miles inbetween, etc.   I get to choose the restaurants.....ha!!!

We had a relaxing afternoon doing computer stuff, reading, playing games, napping and enjoying some great patriotic music from Alexa (John Philip Sousa)!!

We walked downtown at 5:40 and first stop was RJ's for some yummy Toft's ice cream.   Then we walked around looking for a food truck but they (Lions Club) weren't ready to serve yet, so.....good ole Wendy's was close by and we could enjoy our burgers in the AC.   They hit the spot and then we walked to the Trinity United Methodist Church for the "Voices of Freedom" - Port Clinton's Community Choir.

This 4th of July concert originated in 2012 and has grown yearly - our first time and oh my..........absolutely wonderful with so many neat songs, including Amazing Grace with a bagpiper, Molly Ryan (former music director at Immaculate Conception) playing the violin, a young man on drums and guys playing the pipe organ and piano + all the beautiful voices.  Robert McMahon, our new music liturgy director at IC, sang a solo that brought the packed church down....he is sooo talented and sooo young!    The color guard (2 young ladies from Marblehead) presented the flags as we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and then sang The Star Spangled Banner.

There were 2 large screens and someone did a super job of choreography with so many neat pictures - lots of tears and emotion.     The evening ended with tributes to the Armed Forces and each of their special songs
(Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy and Air Force).

So, this concert was directed by Greg Fox.......2 years ago I was at Coffee Express and sat down waiting for my order beside this guy and we started chatting about what a great coffee shop (muffins and other pastries) we have here in Port Clinton.    We got our orders and were on our way.    Then a few weeks later, I saw Greg in church and was so surprised that he was a member of IC and is a music teacher and of course, sings in the choir.   I talked to him briefly at the reception at church a few weeks ago after we had the Corpus Christi parade.  So, now tonight to have him lead this entire fabulous
Voices of Freedom choir
was just really special.

Our fireworks didn't kick off till 10 as it's so light up here....but Port Clinton did a great job with 20 minutes of entertainment and we had ringside seats on Catrina's bridge!
