Saturday - July 15

We had planned to ride our bikes downtown for coffee/breakfast but the rain put an end to that.   It came down pretty hard but didn't last long and then a little drizzle.    So we grabbed the umbrellas and walked - looking for the Green Apple Coffee Shop, but it's no more?    Had great reviews online, but???    So back to Pie Guys and sooo good - we each had a pastry (Mark had the maple pecan cinnamon bun and I had a caramel pecan apple Danish).   Such a neat little spot!    Nice leisurely Saturday morning.

Along West Street is the big lift bridge and entrance to the Welland Canal.   This biggie came thru while we were having breakfast.

The Eider heading from Port Colborne to Montreal
Built in 2010 in Antigua, the Eider is 622' long and 77' wide

The Welland Canal is a ship canal connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie with 3,000 ships transporting 88 billion pounds of cargo per year + all the pleasure boats.   The Welland is 27 miles long with 8 locks.   This is something Mark wants to do with Catrina - maybe next summer?

We walked back to the boat and a light rain started up again.   Some guys were flying these cool kites in the H. H. Knoll Lakeview Park near the marina as we were walking across the footbridge.
Flying high in the sky!
Lovely landscape in the park
And a very nice playground in memory of Melissa
Live music playing in the park with many people sitting on their chairs in front of the bandstand.   Also a food truck and ice cream truck (Mark had a twist cone).

and along our walk...
Tiny pink roses
Not sure?
Hydrangeas
More beauty in Port Colborne at this guest home

Niagara Falls is just 15 miles from Port Colborne (the largest of the Canadian towns we're visiting with a population of 18,306).

These buildings are just across from us at the marina - ADM Milling which produces flour for baking

We did laundry (3 loads) at the marina (only 2 washers and dryers with no place to fold or hang)!    Sure makes me miss the wonderful facility in Port Clinton.   It's so rude when people do not come back to take wash out of machine and put in dryer or when finished with dryer and others are waiting!!!   But we got the job done - nice boater's lounge to use and also bathrooms/showers.   Just the laundry could use a little spiffing up but can't manage what people do/don't do with their laundry!   😒

Got laundry back on the boat, put wagon away and then had a delicious late lunch at Whiskey and Walleye here at the marina.   Mark had a walleye sandwich/salad and I had a trio of tacos (haddock, perch, and walleye) - excellent!

Yummy tacos
Great place!

We walked to 5:00 Mass at St. Patrick's (37-minute Mass) with Father Wieslaw Woloszyn

Not sure what tomorrow's plan is - bummer we didn't get in a bike ride on the nice trail + the promenade along the Welland Canal, but weather was iffy all day, plus laundry and church were higher priorities.

We've come as far east as planned - now to head back west and visit more ports, or go back south to the states - kinda zigzag around - all depends on the weather.   The rain started around 7:15 and is to continue thru the night.
