Sunday - July 9

Today started out mostly cloudy and dreary, but no rain in the forecast.    We had breakfast and then left Cleveland around 9ish.   Winds were stronger than predicted but not too bad and we made the 45 mile trip in 3 hours.   Unfortunately, when Mark was stepping over the bulkhead going into the head (bathroom), he stubbed his toe and we think it's broken - turned every shade of purple!    He has it taped, but that's about all he can do!    Darn....

We arrived at Geneva-0n-the-Lake at noon, got a nice slip along the wall, and a pretty, friendly dockhand in red shirt was there to take our lines.   Actually I brought the boat in!  😀 The sun came out and it was a lovely day at 73. We had lunch and then took the bikes for a nice 7.5 mile ride - they have some trails here at the state park and we passed by the beautiful lodge.    Was hoping the trail went beyond, but that was it but how convenient to end at the Whip-n-Dip ice cream spot.  😋 Mark had an M 'n M flurry and I had a chocolate malt.   Back to Catrina, loaded up the bikes and time to rest!

Along the way today......Mark counted over 100 of these little boats out for a morning sail.

Just a few of the many sailors outside Mentor-on-the-Lake Harbor
Entrance to Fairport Harbor, near where my friend Claire grew up (Painesville, OH)

We remember 2 years ago being here at Geneva-on-the-Lake.    We had wanted to have dinner at the Lodge which is beautiful with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake - huge dining room.    We made a reservation although the hostess was a bit reluctant.    When we got there in the evening, a young couple before us were told they were completely full and turned them away.    Then time for us to be seated.    We walked into the dining room which was almost completely empty?    WHAT?    Anyway, this was Covid time, big shortage of help and only one waitress.   We had a nice visit with her and talked about they can only accommodate a small number of guests each night and she was so tired and frazzled!    Sometimes, it's not any better 2 years later...

Mark hosed down Catrina - so thankful we are done with mayflies!!!   No big walk into the touristy town for him.....he'll be babying that little toe for a few days!

Only 6 siblings on zoom tonight - talked about Karen's retirement party this past Friday, upcoming vacations, prism glasses which Marilyn wears and Doris may need, Janet and Theresa's trip to NC leaving tomorrow, etc.

Have a great week!
