Friday - July 6

Another great day in Canada and the US.....we left our hotel at 9, drove to Fort George to park and then walked 3 blocks to downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake.    Wow, what a difference a day makes - clear blue skies and temp in the upper 60's.    It felt heavenly after yesterday's heat.   We headed back to Balzacs for coffee/latte and today we each had a most scrumptious
raspberry/strawberry/almond croissant.

Walked around the downtown enjoying the flowers again.....shops, people out and about and everyone saying what a great day without all the oppressive heat!!!    This town is full of coffee shops/bakeries/ice cream/gelato shops.    And today the horses and carriages were out and about - much too hot yesterday.   This is also home to the George Bernard Shaw Festival with 4 theaters and productions going on from April thru October.

Sorry, just had to include a few more flowers...

Walked back to Fort George and enjoyed walking around the fort which was one of the battlefields where the War of 1812 took place.

Along with the many vineyards, there are lots of apple and cherry orchards and we drove past a beautiful lavender farm (no place to stop for a pic),   One final drive thru this beautiful farm country and then off to Niagara Falls, Ontario.    We wanted to check things out for when we come back here in a few weeks with Liam, Connor and Brady.    SOOO many people but should be plenty to do along with oohing and aahing at the falls which I was doing as Mark was maneuvering Ruby Red thru all the traffic.    Absolutely stunning to see those falls and can't wait to come back, walk and check them all out!    We were last here in 1989.

Onto Niagara Falls, NY, thru customs and found where to go for the Maid of the Mist boat trip.    Again, so many people, so much traffic.

Off to Buffalo (cause we've never been) and along the way, I'm reading all about how the wings got started in 1964 and the original spot (Anchor Bar) is still thee spot for wings here.      So, we put the address in and such a time to find this place - 1047 Main Street - easy enough, but GPS took us to the 400 block (unbeknownst to us), we found a parking spot (not easy) and it was then over a mile walk.   We walked a ways (soooo thankful that my hip is feeling awesome and I could do another 10,000+ steps today).  Mark decided we should go back and get truck and find a closer spot.    We lucked out and were able to park at the Anchor Bar which was packed.   Parking garages aren't tall enough for truck, so we had some interesting areas to turn around in??

This is the original Anchor Bar dating back to 1939 and it was PACKED at 3:00 on a Friday afternoon.     Hostess said a 20-minute wait, but if we could find a spot at the bar, it was ours.    Lo and behold, there was one table for 2 in the bar.    Tah dah.    Mark had a beer, I had a sangria, we ordered our wings (med) and enjoyed this experience, but what a crazy place.    It is an interesting story to read online.    Finally 18 years later, Buffalo Wild Wings started the franchise.

Ok, now to get out of the parking lot and on our way to West Marine and Target and finally back to Catrina arriving at 5:00.

We are tired, but it's been a really fun 2 days - perfect weather (we survived yesterday's heat), the hip performed flawlessly, Mark handled Ruby Red like a champ and now looking forward to taking the boys to Niagara Falls, Ontario!

Big thank you to our neighbors to the north for so much beauty!    LOVED  Niagara-on-the-Lake
