Monday - July 9

Big day of travel but drove thru some beautiful countryside in NY, PA and WV.    Left Tonawanda at 10, stopped for iced coffee at Tim Horton's and on our way.   Had lunch in Lantz Corners, PA at The Barrel House.    We've seen so many menus offering pulled pork in various dishes.     We love the grilled hot dogs with pulled pork and cole slaw at AJ's (marina) and today I had tater tots topped with pulled pork and melted cheese - calories, schmalories, but oh sooo good!!!

We took a different route (out of the way), but wanted to stop in Punxsutawney, PA (home of Phil, the groundhog).   We are faithful watchers of whether Phil will see his shadow every year on February 2.    So.....the site is out in the boonies, but a nice little park (we were the only ones there but 2 cars came in as we were leaving).    The stage is set for all the TV cameras, news people and interested folks.    Here are a few pics from this landmark!

Mark checking to see if Phil was home

New York is soo dry but Pennsylvania's landscape was such a deep pretty green, so obviously getting the moisture.   The corn in most places is very short - just a few fields that was more how it should be this time of year!

We are in Fairmont, WV tonight and had dinner at The Copper House Grill.    Good food but
 S L O W service.    Two big parties....oh well....

Driving thru western NY we came upon Ellicottville and oh....cute town (would've loved to stop) and in ski country with lots of resorts and the ski slopes in the distance.   Obviously, this town is doing very well and has the big draw (skiing) that so many towns do not have.

We have about 6 hours to Lake James!
