It was a super spectacular day with bright sunny skies, very low humidity and temps in high 70’s – just awesome for cruising or whatever!

Left Sylvan Beach at 7:35 and went thru 2 locks (last ones that come up from the bottom) and 15 miles to Rome where we stopped along the wall. We exercised and then walked to Fort Stanwix (a fort that was key in the Revolutionary War to stopping the British).   Watched a 15-minute video and then walked around – very interesting.

Entrance to the fort

Had lunch downtown at "Steve and Meg's".   Back on the water and did 2 more locks – for a total of 4 locks and 42 miles. We have 18 locks to go on the Erie Canal System – tonight we are tied up on the wall in Herkimer, NY.   There's a big shopping area under one roof selling everything from shoes to gourmet foods, jewelry to Christmas ornaments.    Browsed around and then we had dinner at The Waterfront Grille - good food, but S L O W service!

We are just 28 miles from Cooperstown, NY - home of the baseball hall of fame!
