Friday - August 4

Last night Mark took the Metro and then walked to get our truck and bring back to parking lot.    Just before he got to the boat, big fat drops started falling and then the deluge at 6:30    Really poured!!!    We hunkered down on Catrina for about 30 minutes and then took our big umbrella and off we went to the Metro.    It rained all the way just not as heavy.    We met the sisters at 7:30 along with a double rainbow.   Our driver, Dexter arrived shortly after in a white van to take us on a 3-4 hour excursion to see "Washington at Night.".

We stopped at the Lincoln and Vietnam Memorials and walked around....couldn't believe how many people were out and about.    Drove some more, stopped at the Roosevelt Memorial and Martin Luther King's "I Had a Dream" tribute (had never been to this).

And then it was dark, so rest of trip was just sitting and enjoying the narration Dexter provided as we passed by and he identified the government buildings and famous landmarks, Georgetown (Martin's Bar where JFK proposed to Jackie),  Ivanka Trump's home and then just around the corner, President Obama's home (gated off with secret service vehicles).

It was a very big day and finally crawled into bed just before midnight.

Friday was a sunny, hot humid day and we set to work giving Catrina a good scrubbing!   We had to move into another slip as a big 106' yacht needed the T-dock.    What a beauty with little ole Catrina tucked between "Terraphobic" and "Friendly"

Very breezy this afternoon, so that helped make the 90+ temps more bearable.

Sure feel for Michael who is in excruciating back pain which happened last week lifting boxes and helping with the move.    He's on muscle relaxers, so hope meds kick in soon!

Tonight was sooooo much fun.    We met the sisters and our nephew, Tommy (Janet's son) and his bride of 6 weeks, Samm at Lavanga (excellent Italian restaurant) and then to the Marine Barracks Patriotic Parade which was just across the street.  It was phenomenal with large band and all the marching, wonderful music, the military rifle drill and on and on ending with the "Pass and Review", lowering of the flag in honor of those who gave their life for our country with a lone trumpet player on the rooftop playing taps.    A very emotional teary moment.

 Pass and Review

After a hot day, it was such a lovely evening with nice breeze, lots of people and so full of pride and thankful we could be present for this event which takes place every Friday evening from May-October.    We had a ticket for Ryan, too, and hopefully he'll be able to experience this sometime.
Cannot recommend this enough!

The only downer was that Lydia twisted her knee (which already has been very sore) going down the bleachers and in considerable pain.....praying that she is able to continue with all the DC activities in the next few days.

Maeve is checking out the steps in her new home!
