Monday - August 7

Luke started pre-school today at the Nebo Crossing Academy in Nebo, NC.
He will be going M-F from 8-12.    There are 10 in his class (7 girls and 3 boys)

Rainy start to the day, but Luke loved school and his teacher, Miss Joanna
Excited about his first day of school with Mommy

Rainy Monday......but not going to keep us from all we've planned for today....  Mark and I left the boat around 8:30 and walked to the Rayburn Office Building (1/2 hour and where Ryan's works).   We met the sisters in the cafeteria for coffee and catching up on what we did Sunday.

Lydia is doing better but tires easily.   Marilyn is having knee issues, too, ....
We went to the 4th floor and met the aides to Kristi Noem from South Dakota (Lydia's current address and who arranged the tickets for us).    We went into Kristi's office (also where she lives when in Washington with a leather pull-out sofa and decorated with many SD artifacts.)

PJ from Rapid City was our tour guide.   He will return to SD next week and his sophomore year at college after spending the summer as an intern and taking the SD visitors on a tour of the nation's capital.    Fortunately with all the rain, we were so luck to have tunnels connect us to the Rayburn Building to the Capital to The Library of Congress.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the Capital tour - soo many people but soo interesting with statuary, architecture, etc.

Ryan's work place

Plaster model of Freedom statue (exact replica of bronze statue on top of capital dome)

Ceiling of the capital rotunda

This magnificent chandelier formerly hung in a Methodist church in Washington and was sold to the government for $1200 in the 1960's.    Can't imagine what it is worth now - solid crystal

The Dixon, IL  natives (Marilyn, Janet, Mark, Theresa) with Ronald Reagan who grew up there.

This picture does not do justice to the magnificent Library of Congress.
WOW.....soo impressive!

We parted ways with the sisters around 1:45.   They took the metro/bus back to their condo and Mark and I walked back (still raining but not real heavy) to the boat.   We stopped at The Blue Jacket Brewery for drinks and that's when it really poured, so happy to be inside.

Ryan has started the long journey home leaving Perth and traveling 'round the world.

We had BLT's for supper, played some euchre and then went for a walk - still some misty rain going on and lots of people flocking to the Nats game.   Stopped at Starbucks for coffee/latte and back to Catrina.
