Veterans Day - 2021

A salute to these fine men and women today...

God Bless America!

We are thinking of Ryan today and all who have served (past and present) our great country!
He is really seeing the world after his 13 years in the Navy and now flying for FedEx.    This week he's been in Paris, Bonn and Tel Aviv.

Mark had a haircut appointment this morning so we left early to have breakfast at Peter's.    But for the 2nd time, we were very disappointed to see they were closed with no explanation.   There were 2 men and a lady on the sidewalk and they just said "the coffee shop has very sporadic hours"???    Really?    Not happy that this happened again and certainly not the way to run a successful business especially since they are so new???    Hopefully, nothing serious going on.

So we walked down the street and had a very good breakfast at First Street Bar and Restaurant.   I had a veggie quiche w/potatoes and Mark, the biscuits and gravy.  This place is always busy and today, the same with all outside tables full.   Our waitress was totally frazzled and kept apologizing as of course, big shortage of help!   1st time for us but would definitely return.

Mark got his hair cut and then we walked to the post office - big boat show this weekend downtown so many streets are blocked off.   But today, is Veteran's Day, so post office was closed.   And another crazy story about the S L O W mail service.    Tom (Mark's brother) and Beth sent Mark's birthday card from Champaign, IL on November 1st and it arrived yesterday (9 days)!!!!    UGH!!!!

We rode bikes in the afternoon and visited with Paul from Springfield, IL   I had not seen Paul and Sue since they came back.   Last night Sue's Dad had a stroke and she flew to Michigan early this morning.     So many sad, scary health issues happening.

We left at 4:45 for Punta Gorda and met our friends, Roger and Carol at their condo.    Their friends Ann and Steve (North Fort Myers) and Don and Donna (Fort Myers) joined us for drinks/snacks.    They live in Peoria in the summertime and all six of them belong to the IVY Club.   We all walked across the street to the Isles Yacht Club for dinner and a very interesting program on "Cruising the Great Loop on a PDQ 34" which is exactly what we did.  Dinner was excellent and just a very enjoyable evening.
