Friday - September 1

Burrr..September arrives with a real chilly start to the day - 43 breezy degrees.    The sun is shining, though.....and we were off at 7:45 heading to Cooperstown.    We took the interstates
(90 and 81) and 102 scenic miles later we were in Cooperstown.    Mark and I were expecting a big building for the Baseball Hall of Fame maybe in the outskirts of town?    No idea really, but what a charming town with baseball shops and paraphernalia everywhere but amongst it all, the very nice Hall of Fame which was built in 1939 (year my parents were married).    It is sooo well done and we thoroughly enjoyed our time checking out the 3 floors and having a great tour guide walk and talk us thru the "Hall of Fame Gallery".
We took a break and walked about 5 (very nippy) blocks passing cute shops (mostly baseball related), restaurants, etc., to Mel's 22 which was Trip Advisor's #1.....and it was a winner!    I had the butternut squash w/cinnamon and Mark had clam chowder.    We both had their grilled cheese special with Italian and mozzarella cheeses, fried green tomato, onions and cured meat.    Oh boy!!!!
And added to all this, a good cold glass of chardonnay.     Soup really hit the spot as temps did not get out of the 50's and with the wind.....it was downright chilly.
It was a perfect day for soup and I think I forgot to mention when we were in Bennington, Vermont last week and had lunch at the Madison Brewing Co., I had another wonderful soup......Vermont Cheddar Ale!   LOVE soups in the fall/winter!
Back to the Hall of Fame and checked out some new areas and others we had been to this morning.    It is just a wonderful place and highly recommend it if you are near these parts.    The town of Cooperstown is sooo charming and these New Yorkers sure have green thumbs cause everywhere in these little towns the baskets are overflowing or big tubs of blooms - just gorgeous!!!
Mark never likes to take the same route 2x, so we came back via the country and again, spectacular views of the mountains, rolling hills, farms, corn fields, etc.   It was a very pleasant ride!

When we arrived back in Brewerton, we stopped to fill up our red truck's gas tank as tomorrow, we are off again....lo and behold, what should we find inside the station?    A Tim Horton's,,,,,"coffee and latte, please!!!"     We passed on the donuts!
